All of the surrounding schools closings are posted on the KY3 website. Why on earth does West Plains wait until the last minute to cancel school? Don't they realize that working parents must make plans if school is cancelled? How inconsiderate!!! Parent's we need to voice our disatisfaction!

Ooops! Dont I feel foolish? I should have checked the calendar before posting! Sorry for the unneeded drama. However, I will say, in the past WP school is one of the last to announce school closing even when it is obvious the weather is too bad for buses to run. Guess thats why I am hypersensitive to this subject.

I have to agree with you. Schools will be announcing the night before and WP will wait until about 6:30 am to make the call.

Idiots. Stirring up crap when you don't even know when your kids go back to school. Good parenting skills.

No lazy ass here! I am up at 5:00 am everyday.(even on weekends) Just need more time to plan for childcare for snow days. Hard to do that when the annoucement comes so late. Like Blas said, sometimes they don't call it until 6:30 am. I have to be at work at 7:00.

its a mistake anyone can make.... for a time i was a single parent of my four kids, helping my sis with her new baby, taking care of my sick mom and working 40 plus hours a week. i woke up several saturday and sunday morning thinking i need to get my kids up for school and they were with their dad... i had no idea half the time what was going on, till the morning it was happening and they reminded me.. its tough. and the schools do wait to late. last year didnt they run the buses and it was so slick that they wrecked and ended up keeping them a couple hours and sending them home?

Ok...so you made a simple mistake about when the kids go back to school.

However, for a person who needs time to make plans in the case of canceled school, I find it funny that you didn't already know school was out tomorrow and already had plans made.

I grew up in the West Plains and surrounding school systems.
I remember several times throughout the years that we would be on the bus, snow or sleet coming down,
and they would cancel school as soon as we got there. I think they have gotten better over the years though.

No, its not a mistake "anyone" can make. It's a mistake that someone with less than desirable parenting skills might make. You like that - "less than desirable"? That means parenting skills that SUCK. If you were waking up on a Saturday or Sunday thinking that it was a school day several times, then get your lard arse out of the bar on Friday and Saturday night! Keep your legs closed while at the bar and you probably would not have that many kids!

Yeah, I said it. No excuse for a crappy parent.

I just got an automated call from the school notifying me that there is NO school tomorrow(Tuesday)..I think West Plains is giving parents an ample amount of time to make arrangements! I agree with you "what"..

I have the automated thing on my phone, to where if school dismisses early, or if there is no school, I get a call.
Well, no school tomorrow...

Wait just a minute! Why are you so quick to accuse? I started this thread because I saw the school closings on TV for all the area schools.(Willow Springs, West Plains Head Start, Bakerfield etc.)
I watched for West Plains to be on the list. It wasn't. Many times,(I have had kids in WP schools since 1987 and still do) I have seen all of the other schools cancel school long before WP does.
WP waits until the last minute which is often times an inconvenience to the parent. I'll admit, I jumped the gun and posted on Topix before I checked the school calendar.
Side note, my children are old enough to stay home alone now on snow days. However, I supervise several people in WP area that have small children and are required to make alternative arrangements for childcare if school is cancelled.
West Plains schools are notorious for waiting until the last minute to cancel.
That is my point! No need to call people "idiots and bad parents" because of a simple error. I promise no children have been harmed or neglect from this error! So, get over it!

As far as I'm concerned, this school district has a lot to be desired. My daughter is in high school and they only have about 25 minutes to get from class to the lunchroom, stand in line, get their lunch and eat it. I pack her lunch for her so she doesn't have to wait in line, but her friend sometimes has less that 3 or 4 munutes to eat! And the asst. principal at the middle school seems to think he is still in the military. Yelling at a child to say yes instead of yeah is beyond belief! Doesn't he know that treating the kids that way is only going to make them hate him and any authority more? And, now they get lunch detention if they forget to hand in an assignment. When I was in school, we got a F if we forgot one. That was the consequence. They are way to strict here. They are only causing rebellion in these kids, they are not doing them any good.
