Today a local merchant found 2 TV sets at West Plains Pawn that belonged to him. A few weeks ago a local man saw an expensive electronic device being auctioned on Ebay that had been stolen out of his garage 4 or 5 weeks earlier. He quickly traced the item being sold back to West Plains Pawn. When confronted, the pawnshop owner angrily denied any knowledge of the item. The man had to call the police for help. The police arrived and retrieved the item for him. This pawn shop needs to be fully investigated! If you've been burglarized recently, check out Ebay. Once you locate an item similar to yours set the "sort by" filter to "distance closest to you." Continue to check Ebay up to 10 weeks or longer after the theft! Good luck!

It's a pawnshop, it's to be expected.

I doubt the owner had anything to do with the actual burglary or thefts but in that line of business ignorance is bliss.

I agree with disgusted When you get robbed the pawn shops usually have your stuff even if you have went into their place and let them know about people over and over. They do not care it's like they hope and prey the people don't get busted just to get more stuff!!I think they need to crack down alot better.

I had three items taken from my garage about 3 months ago. I filed a police report and checked with every pawn shop in the area including W.P. Pawn. I actually called them 3 times and went there in person twice asking for the specific items that were stolen. They said, "nope, haven't had anything like that turned in here." Found them on ebay, yep, traced them to their store and the police then got them back for me. They lied to me about them being there. How convenient! When you know they're stolen just keep them in the back room and use ebay. Sorry Speeluunjuur but there's no ignorance on their part!

I told the police the whole story. I told them how many times I had called and visited the pawn shop. Their response? "Well, they generally work with us and are very cooperative." Whatever. It's interesting to me that I had to do all the detective work and when I find my stuff they won't even tell me who pawned it. So, I have no way of knowing if these people are even going to be charged. Maybe the DA is the route to go.

By law there"should" be tickets made for everything bought and sold and they are supposed to keep it in a record of some sort also. I know they have to submit a copy of each pawn ticket to the police. They may or may not abide by it but if they get caught not abiding by it they will get shut down. I am pretty sure you can report them to a few places if the police fail to do an investigation. I am sure you can look it up on google. There is also the national pawn brokers association if they are listed with them. I am not saying that any pawn shop is or isn't doing anything illegal.:)

Funny, for people that try to act like they know so much, yet they talk about the DA. DA? Who is that?

There is no such thing in Howell county.

PA perhaps, Prosecuting Attorney.....

It's called recieving stolen property and it is illegal even if the recipient does not know it is stolen. Pawn store owners should not be above the law, they should be more aware of the laws and abide them. Pawnbrokers should be required to run serial numbers before those large items are pawned, and why was the pawn shop owner not charged with a crime?

At the very least, they should not be able to hide stuff in the back and sell it on ebay. Or maybe just be required to post what they are selling in the back for people like me who are looking for their stolen items. If I hadn't found it on ebay myself, it would have been gone.

Perhaps if West Plains had real cops and a real police force?
I think Che Kit could have done a better job than those crack head cops that "Do business" with the pawnshops and drug slingers around here.

Oh and that K-9 cops, "Brian Bunch-a-drugs in my basement" guy? LOL They should investigate him. What an ass

Now come on, a Christian would not say.... Oh wait, you are a criminal! Thats right, many criminals do transfer their frustrations away from their self, and blame the police on their crimes.

I assume Brian was the one that arrested you on your last arrest?

so when having a pawn brokers lic you are only required that who ever you purchase or pawn something from has a valid drivers lic. They fill out a form and you take info off lic. If the item does not have a serial number that's in the data base of stolen items, the owner of that business has no way of knowing if it's stolen or not. Once the police show up and take the items and prove they are stolen, the business owner does not try keeping the items, in fact they are out what ever money they have loaned or paid for the item. It happens a lot and not a lot can be done about it. many items have no way of registering, serial numbers, markings and so on. Pawn brokers are in it for the money, so if you take a stolen item to a shop and have a valid lic you can more then likely sell it with ease. Now once the item has been reported stolen and found, keep in mind they do have your drivers lic number on file.
That's how its supposed to be done, now if kenny and his staff isn't doing that then yes, they should be punished. I do know they keep pretty good track of what they purchase, pawn and sell. Highly doubt he's doing anything illegal.

ummm....you don't know what you're talking about. These people had to pay W.P. Pawn what the shop had payed for the merchandise before it was returned to them. The shop was out nothing! Get it?? He lied about the stuff sitting in his back room while he advertised it on Ebay...the guy must be your buddy. Sorry.

And if they do not require someone to pay for it, then what is to stop theives from teaming up and running scams on pawn shops? Someone "steals" it and pawns it for cash, and then the supposed "owner" comes in and claims it and pays nothing for it? Sounds like the pawn shop is merely thinking like a business....which it is.
