I understand Jen. WP people need some lessons on loving their neighbors. Way too many judgemental people in this small town.

yeah there is,its sad.. i just dont know why people put so much energy in trying to be negative..im sure half the people reporting welfare fraud (like "Lulu" the narc) arent truely concerned about people 'abusing the system',they just take enjoyment in trying to screw people over.
if people want to bitch about something then why not something thats going to make a difference and HELP someone, not hurt them.for example instead of bitching about food some little KIDS got ,why not put that energy toward the fact that alot of kids out there are going Without food-so why be a dickhead about the ones who are being taken care of

it was not food the kids got --it was junk food. I am not saying treats are bad for kids sometimes, but, 50 bucks at a time is too much at once. You are the dickhead for thinking the way you do. I think the ebt cards should be used for balanced meals. the mother should have been with the kids & signed her name to the slip. The kids should not be authorized to use ebt cards.

Because sending kids to the mini mart store to buy junk food is NOT TAKING CARE OF YOUR KIDS.
As a taxpayer in a very high tax bracket I feel it is my right if not my duty to report welfare fraud. I have never done so but I will not bash those who do. It is disgusting that you can buy expensive food...Schwan's, new seafood shop, meat shop ect...with an EBT card. Those funds should and could be put to better use by shopping at Wal Mart. There are also plenty of kids whose parents receive food stamps that are sitting around going without food because the parents squander the money or are too lazy to get up and cook.

that is why I think at least a partial commodities distribution should take place and cut the amount of available money on ebt cards. when I saw these little girls at caseys--I am sure they came from crestwood circle and should have had a parent walking with them and the parent should have signed the ticket on the ebt receipt thing. same as the medicaid use--the abuse is ridiculous. to go to the emergency room in the afternoon for a sore throat because you are too lazy to go in the morn or you have stayed up too late and sleep til noon.

Why bother? Just like reporting negigent parents goes nowhere, neither does this! I reported my grandkid's mom. She was collecting money and food stamps from the state and daycare for 3 kids. The problem was 2 kids lived with their dad in another state and the other was with her dad as well. She originally had all 3, but divvied them up between dads and kept on collecting. We reported it, reported it and reported it. The never did crap about it or investigate or even follow up on the info, contacts, etc that was provided.

You are right they don't seem to do much around here. The thing is my sister lives in KC and was letting guys live with her while receiving housing assistance. They actually performed their random home visits there, caught her, and she lost her assistance for 2 years. Why does KC have the resources but we don't seem too?

i bet 1/2 of the gals living in assisted housing around here have men living with them. i think the problem has gone on so long it has snowballed to the point it is overlooked or known that it is happening and noone cares. there are a lot of healthy young guys that come into the quick stop stores and use ebt cards and act proud. their cards will have a females name on them with up to 2,000.00 balance.

The problem, in my opinion, is not welfare use, it is welfare fraud. Many people are suffering in this economy and have lost income and employment. There is nothing wrong with someone using the government for assistance and to be able to make it. The girls at Casey's are a prime example... there is nothing wrong with being on welfare and using the funds to occasionally buy your kids a snack (whether candy or sodas), however, if that is what they are living on... then it is a problem. Not just because they are on welfare... I would think it was poor parenting no matter what your income level. Allowing three ten year olds to walk to the store alone is poor parenting and has nothing to do with whether they are on welfare or not. How many "rich" kids do you see screwed up on drugs... plenty! It is not your station in life or where your money comes from that causes problems... it's the parenting. I know people from all walks of life and have seen "welfare" moms that are excellent parents. While some of their "rich" counterparts are completely absorbed with their own lives. Many of those on welfare are single moms that no longer have the dad in the picture and aren't receiving child support. Perhaps more focus should be placed on dead beat parents (moms and dads) to pay their child support and a lot less funding would have to come from the government.

it is the mindset of people that gets me. when the kids get in their heads that they are owed by the system for things they get. there is one man and wife i know that have never worked. the man is on disability because he is too lazy to work and the woman gets ssi from something. They have asked to borrow money until they get "PAID"...what a statement. they are related to a family i know and I would love to say back to them what I think of getting paid to be lazy. they stay up all night and sleep all day. even single moms can contribute something to society in return for their help in assistance and teach the kids that the assistance is only temporary until they can get on their feet and be self-sufficient.

I don't think the system was designed so kids could get $50.00 of candy! It is so the whole family can eat. They should be stretching their food stamps as far as they can. I bet you get food stamps yourself. Shame on anyone that would let their kid spend $50.00 on candy anyway!

I think we can all agree with your post. But please understand that no one is bashing people just for receiving assistance...at least not on this thread. The reason so many of us are upset is because so many people are truly hurting right now due to job loss or illness ect. we are all sympathetic to that. It makes me sick to see the elderly who have worked hard all of their life, and many went to war for our country, to receive such little assistance. Yet able bodied lazy people can collect a check for doing nothing other than having a kid. My guess is that these kids who went and bought $50 worth of candy were either unsupervised, needed to go get mom some munchies, or were hungry and instead of mom getting up to cook she sent them to the store to buy some food. In my opinion that is child neglect as well as endangering the welfare of a minor(s). Far worse than any EBT fraud.

And who the hell needs $2000 worth of food every month? That seriously pisses me off!!

Also wanted to add that alot of these women have learned that if you have babies with guys who are in and out of prison or claim you don't know who the father could be then you are guaranteed a check from the state. Otherwise the state will go after the father for child support regardless of what the mother wants.

I agree completely... the problem is that many people, if not most, automatically assume that if people are on welfare, they are lowlifes. I know several good, hardworking families that are currently in this situation... and hate it... as most of us would. Yet they have no choice, because of layoffs. I have seen first hand when in line in the checkout, people that are treated terribly because they are using an EBT card. I myself resent someone purchasing steaks on food stamps (when I'm stuck with burger!), it's ridiculous! However, I also know people who are foster parents, and good ones, that are given food stamps to help out with their grocery bill. They should not be treated bad because they are using assistance to help out with a child... either way, the sad part is that you can look at someone and know whether they really NEED foodstamps or if they are just sucking the system for all it's worth... Frustrating!

that would save the government a bundle. the stores want the cards. they probably have more welfare patrons that those who work. can't work if you don't have jobs though. or if you lay on your ass fornicating and produce.
