There is a story told down around Moody and Lanton of a wagon that was driven into a cave somewhere between the two areas. Story has it that it was gold from the raiders near the end of the civil war going to be taken to the south to help fund the war.
They thought they were about to be attacked, so they found this cave, and alledgely has never been found again.
back in the early 80's,,there was a group who hunted for that gold,,did research and everything,,they pinpointed it to a pond by or around either pottersvill,,west plains,,caulfeild or towards gainsville,,said it was deep in a cows pond and the farmer wouldnt let them scuba dive to look,,thats the last i heard about the lost gold,,but the story come from some one at some time ago,,so is there hidden gold out there,,i beleive yes,,come to think of it,,i havnt seen the leader of the gold hunt for years now,,hmmmm,,late in the 90's i did watch the show,,the rich an famous tv show and thought this one rich basterd did look like maybe someone i met before,,this topix about gold might be him trying to find more cuz the rich are greedy,,,just a thought,,,ha haa haaa

There's no gold in the Ozarks. The local geology doesn't support it. Total BS.
