you can find gold in some of the rivers down here if you look hard enough.I'am not saying you can get rich but with gold 1000 a ounce you could make a little money & have fun doing it.

The rivers are owned by the various state agencies. If you were to get caught it wouldn't a pretty scene. They think they have rights to everything. Probably wouldn't be a big deal unless you actually found something and tried to cash it in. Besides that why work so hard at that when you stay at home and draw check for doing nothing.

There is a story told down around Moody and Lanton of a wagon that was driven into a cave somewhere between the two areas. Story has it that it was gold from the raiders near the end of the civil war going to be taken to the south to help fund the war.

They thought they were about to be attacked, so they found this cave, and alledgely has never been found again.

The rest of the story goes......because we live in such a karst (kinda like swiss cheese) geographical area, the gold might have washed through numerous rock formations, found its way to local springs, and poof!.....ended up in rivers.

Don't forget the legend about the mule train of gold that the Spanish hid when they were about to be attacked by Indians. This is supposedly buried somewhere in the Eleven Point River hills.

I think it would be MORE fun to find you while you're panning in a river...and then hold your face under the water until the bubbles stop.
