You know, the economy sucks, we all know this. There are very few businesses that are not struggling. Especially in towns that are not big tourist attractions.

I got so sick of hearing Suds N whine on facebook trying to guilt people into coming to their store. "Oh, if we have another bad day, we are just closing". "We've had a lot of good days, but need more". Join the crowd. If it didn't cost $10 for 1 person to eat lunch and get that large soda cup full of ice and 2 swigs of cola, maybe more would eat there.

Now, Hatley's is doing the same thing. The other day they were whining "we need more business". Now they say "we may close soon, we need $100 more in business per day". Really? Doesn't all the businesses?

Hello, we just had a brand new ice cream place open up in town. Then here comes someone opening up a similiar place. No, it isn't ice cream, but same industry.

Face it, people can't afford the little extras.

Especially at Hatley's. We stopped by and it was too expensive for our family of 5.

I know know if the owners paid out the money to build the store or if another person did and they rented/leased it, but there are enough empty spaces sitting around West Plains. Was nonsense to drop that kind of money building a new store.

Before I hear people complain and say "Keep your money at home", when you shop anywhere in West Plains, you are keeping your money at home. That is right, even when you eat at cheaper places in town that are franchises. You are keeping LOCAL people employeed who spend their money here in West Plains.

Let me guess, KY3 will be here doing a story on Hatley's next?

Sorry, it should say "I don't know if the owners paid......." not "I know know".

Yep...I agree. Business is survival of the fittest. Personally...I think it was idiotic of "anyone" opening up a new business in this economy. Now...if we had an "Andy's" in town, I would frequent that place about everyday for that Blackberry Concrete! Yeah...remember that item cause it rocks! For a medium it was over $5, but man it was worth it.

Wondering if the ice cream place would have done better if they had not opened in the dead of winter?

Mr Hatley was originally going to open an Andy's. However their franchise fee, building requirements, and net worth requirements were beyond ridiculous. It would be very, very hard to make an Andy's a profitable long term business here.

If you knew as much about running a business as you think you do then you would easily be able to afford to treat your family of 5 to Hatley's Frozen Custard .... or any other business you deem too expensive.

It's too hot for custard today. To be real who thinks about going out and spending $30 on ice cream with your family. We are lucky to afford burger king. not enough rich people in west plains to keep a custard stand up.

Let's get something straight here people. It is only 50 cents for a large whatever you order but it's the extra cid tax money we have to charge everyone so the land owner can grease his own greedy pockets. Back in the day the Mafia would threaten to break your knees or windows for a peice of the buisness. In west plains all the land owner has to do is belong to the right click with the city council to get a peice. I will not shop at any store in west plains that have a cid tax. If they try and make me I will break some windows. HHEHE.

Maybe it's a bad town to try to start up in.After all, most jobs are minimum wage and usually not 40 hours.Businesses can't make money unless the people of the town do.

My thought exactly. What kind of business plan calls for opening a new frozen custard store during the winter? Six months later - they're threatening to close.

We live on the far north side of WP. It is 20 miles RT to Walmart. So - add in $3.20 for a gallon of gas to the price of a couple of cones and the prices are out of sight. We went there ONCE. There was no atmosphere (looks like a high school cafeteria), and the server, while not rude, wasn't very friendly.

We love Spring Dipper and it's half the distance. It's very cute inside and the young people who work there are a stitch.
