Just wanting some input from people living in the area. Would you like to see a sports bar n grill come to your town? A REAL one. Featuring 30 hd tvs, ALL sports tv packages, mma events, over 75 menu items (price efficient for the area) beer (domestic, imports, and drafts), and some liquor. Again, just wanting to see what some input from the locals. Thanks.

Would love to see one. Been to the one next to Cafe 37 but it is pretty pricey and there aren't that many televisions. I guess it's not really a sports bar. Would definitely go for the MMA events.

Nice idea but you could save yourself a ton of grief and money by just giving up on it before you start. The powers that be will smile and welcome you to the community while doing everything in their power to make sure you fail. They will start whisper campaigns and rumors to hamper your success. The police will target your customers and they will hassle you, the owner. The local churches will brand you and your establishment as promoting the devil's work. Personally I would like to see such a place in West Plains, but in reality it won't work.

I have to agree with derekp. Several years ago we had a nice sports bar and grill on Porter Wagoner. I can't remember what it was called but it was VERY nice, especially when compared to the other bars at the time. The police constantly pulled people over in that area much the same way as they do with every other bar and TJ's today. In less than a year it was out of business. You could build your sports bar and grill out of town but then you would also lose customers due to the drive or people just forgetting you exist. I can already tell you that most of the population will complain about the noise level, alcohol, cigarette smoke etc because they do not understand that it is a sports bar not a family restaurant. Then another group will complain that it is too expensive regardless of what your prices are. So you will have a very limited customer base.

I would love to have a sports bar and grill here but I would hate to see anyone go into financial ruin in an attempt to open one.

I appreciate all the feedback from those that live in the area. I may have not been very clear on all the details but this is going to be a family friendly restaurant (Hooters without the Hooters or a B-Dubs), it will be a smoke free establishment, (I will lose customers, I understand that) the food prices will be comparable of that of a Colton's type place ( better quality and quantity of food) , all things will be purchased locally to help raise the economy in this town, and the prices of alcohol will be higher. (this will keep the establishment from becoming a BAR environment) and WE will provide cabs to local homes.

There will be a vacant building available in ten days. The frozen custard building in southern hills. It is plenty large for the crowds that will frequent your family oriented, no smoking allowed, purposely overpriced booze establishment.

Just a hint of sarcasm-perhaps? Thanks for the information on the vacancy of a building in the city limits of West Plains, it is appreciated.
However; I believe for what we are wanting to accomplish, we may have to build. I am aware of some more buildings that are or becoming available in the Bruce Smith parkway area.

Uh, first you do not want to rent the custard building unless you want to be in the same position as the man who owns the custard establishment. Rent is $2000 month. I don't know the prices of rent at the Bruce Smith Parkway but if you are smart you will not pay high rent or jump to building. This town is very fickle, just search restaurant names here on Topix and see how much complaining there is about every single establishment. I would make sure that you are a profitable business before paying high rent or building a building that you won't be able to sell or rent out if things don't work for you.

Secondly, what you have described is not a sports bar and grill. It is simply a family restaurant. No one is going to feel comfortable hanging around in a non-smoking, family oriented restaurant watching sports. So your customer base will depend on whether those families feel your prices are too high. Again, see other restaurant threads. The number one complaint is "I can't feed my family of 5 at blah, blah" In the end the franchises always win out and the little guys lose. I've watched it happen for years. Honestly, if you want a fighting chance I would try to do something similar to TJ's only with better food, better service, and better atmosphere. The only reason that place has stayed in business despite complaints about prices, food quality, waitresses etc is because it is the only place to go that is like a bar but not a bar, has pool tables, dim lighting, tv's etc. Meaning those who like that atmosphere or who would prefer not to be bashed all over town (or lose customers) because someone saw you drink a beer at Colton's are keeping that place going despite the fact that they aren't 100% happy with the place. Whatever you chose to do....give it ALOT of thought and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

OMG you got to be kidding me?
People actually go to Colton's just to keep tabs on who is drinking beer?
Are you the same twerp who has your binoculars peeping thru your front window just to see what your neighbor is putting in their trash, so you can do what, go tattle on them?
Give me a f*kn break...

No, but it's the most popular restaurant in town. You will be seen having a beer by Christian customer or member of your church. They are only having tea or soda with their steak, but you shouldn't be allowed to have a beer. If you are a sinner that has beer, they will boycott your business or badmouth you at the church.

Thank you, that is exactly what happens. That is just the beginning. You get judged by what you wear .... someone won't like the length of your shorts so you have to wear capris, if you wear a tie dye you must be a druggie, tank tops are trashy, name brand clothing is expected by some customers but will make others assume you are stuck up. It's the same with jewelry. You can't have too nice of a vehicle because then speculation starts about how much money you have and maybe you are making too much and should reduce your prices/rates or give more to the church. Ever notice that most attorneys drive a Camry or other similar common non luxury or flashy car? If a customer is at TJ's chances are they are drinking as well, or are at least non judgmental about it, so you can have one freakin' beer with your steak and not worry that you just lost only who knows how many customers.

BTW...I am talking 1-2 beers max. Not getting drunk or buzzed and then driving.

This is all good information and there are many things to take into consideration. The person that made the comment about it not being a Sports Bar due to the non smoking, no pool table, etc etc; Have you ever been inside a Hooters? It is ran the same way and they are very successful, yes I am aware that West Plains has no where near the demographics of the areas that Hooter's are located in. People take their children there and we ALL know why people go to an establishment that's called, "Hooters." I am just doing some research for this area, asking questions and seeing what the PEOPLE of this town want. Again, thank you for your insight.(Again, I am well aware if I want research this isn't the best place to get answers as alot of threads people just bash ideas.)

I look forward to the Sports Bar as long as that Quintin Crossley doesn't hang out there. Hopefully he was just doing the landscaping as he thinks he is all that. He stated that the hicks around here will love it as long as they have moonshine and shots for a girlfriend cousins. He constantly puts us down even though he is from here.

He hit on me one night and was really down grading women. Then he started asking me about where to find drugs right out of the blue. This seemed pretty suspicious so I looked him up on CASENET.

He is the only person I have ever seen that has 4 entire pages just for him on casenet so not only is he a jerk but a major criminal as well. PLEASE keep him away.

Been there. They do have decent food. But, if you have to go to a restaurant to see women in short shorts and tight feminine cut T-shirts, just how pathetic is your life?

You're a little too late. Already a nice one opening Aug 3rd from what I've heard.
