I heard about this on FB. So I called the school. The lady who answers put me on hold for quite some timke before answering my question. She came back on and said it was a random thing some of the christian athletes had done this morning and all on their own. Then I got back on and asked the original poster more about this. This FB poster very proudly explained that 3 area churches and some "civic leaders" planned this and went to the school and invited all the students to join them in prayer. Okay. So then I called the R-7 elementary school, talked to a Mr. Miller who assured me it was student led and happens once a year, every 4th Wednesday of September and that the school is unable to send out fliers due to the religious nature and he even said the whole practice was kind of "sticky". Then I was in the grocery store I heard a little voice tell her mom that she had "prayed to a flagpole today". I turned and the kid was about 5 or 6 and I know there is no way some band of christian 5 years olds led themselves in prayer!

I hate that the school lied. I am a christian, but I would want to know who is praying with my child and what they are praying for and not all christian sects or churches are the same!!!!! This is shady and I know a child that young did not self lead a whole class of peers in prayer. Shame on R7 for allowing this to go on. Look for a lawsuit soon.

Let it go! It's not like the kids was being lead by a drug lord and taught the world of drug deals. Let me ask you...all the books your kid learns from in school...do you know them? You read them all word for word right? But you trust they are at a level of education your get deserves...and what is in them? Do you know? And the people that produce them? Do you know who they are as a person? If your problem is who is leading the prayer...you may have bigger questions to ask yourself. Like who is your mail man and what is his life like...and who is he as a person...he knows where you live. I think the person leading a group in a generally known peaceful practice of simply prayer...you should relax...it's prayer. It is someone of the school who has to have background checks etc...and if you are worried of them you should worry the whole school system your kid is in. Maybe you should keep your kid under a rock? Or just maybe? You should cut the cord a little? Be happy that the teacher isn't touching your kid....that happens in this work now day. For REAL? Be a Christian ...forgive...and get over it...That is why people get upset with Christians...they AREN'T

ok,,,part of this dont make no sense,,,a 5 or 6 yr old isnt allowed to go outside any school without a teacher or two or three,,,so the teachers had to go with them,,,and if they didnt and let little children be unsupervised by non school employees,,,yes you have a concern like we all should,,,but you have to remember something,,,r-7 school district does whatever they want when they want cuz it is a school influenced by the churches of west plains just like everything else in west plains,,,now is that a bad thing?,,,it wouldnt be if all the christian churches didnt all have made up rules and own thoughts of what the one christian bible says,,,a lawsuit of this WILL make the big time news stations from across the country,,,now is that a bad thing,,,only for the school district and the city council of west plains to answer some questions,,,then the atheist groups with political influences will follow with their questions and this will bring in the lefty democrats who want to make a name for their agenda,,,to rid this country of GOD,,,other then that,,,let the kids pray,,,am sure the little kid you heard in the store didnt say they prayed to a flag pole,,,cuz they met at the flag pole,,,cuz america is under GOD and 5 yr olds are smarter then that,,,

I don't believe in praying in public, like this! That is against what I believe. I do not believe in idolatry. Praying around a flag is idolatry to me. It goes against my religious beliefs. This school really screwed up. If I find who the churches were that went there and did this, they will be hearing from me. I am an American citizen. I have the right to be in charge of my kid's spiritual lessons, not a public school and uninvited pastors I know nothing about.

So if a Muslim, Hindu,Satanic,or Wiccan group came in and invited your kids to prayer areound the pole.....you would just get over it or....cut the cord and allow it? I do not send my kid to school for religion, either. I do that on my own and with the church of MY choice. Maybe you don't mind letting the school make spiritual decisions for your child and without even informing you, but I have a problem with it. Praying in public is against MY Christian beliefs as praying to a flagpole!

Jesus would sue and give the proceeds to the poor. Well...after I take "my" cut of course. I mean, I don't work for "free".

Your want to SUE them is against your Christian beliefs! Your need to FIGHT is AGAINIST your Christian beliefs...your Christian beliefs...sound more like your OWN beliefs adjusted to fit YOUR needs. Are you kidding?! Fight Christian FIGHT! HA...I'm sorry...I believe in God...but you FOLLOW the religion of Christianity ...perhaps you should...FOLLOW it. And btw...my God...is a God to the Muslims, Hindu, Satanic, and Wiccan (which BTW Wiccan DO NOT WORSHIP EVIL ...you clearly draw some RELATION TO ALL OF THEM AND SEE THEM ALL AS I SUPPOSE BAD...you grouped them together)....YES I SAID MY GOD...is the SAME GOD (OUR GOD..THE GOD) as that of SATANIC followers...they do not follow God perhaps...but my God says "forgive them" do not "judge them" ...and I am forgiving you...but I do warn you...follow nothing blindly...LEARN of it ALL ...and as your faith teaches...and be sure you are sinless before you judge and have others JUDGED for their sins against you and others/ for you will be judged for the same...but more harshly...so sue...throw the first stone...or simply? sit down...take part in your childs life...teach them yourself...find out what is going on...and give them the knowledge they need...and let them have "free will" to make the right decisions...and YES cut the CORD...they are a person...a kid is still a person...it is your job to GUIDE and PROTECT them NOT BE THEM...and YES SUEING IS ANTI CHRISTIAN...you do not take something that is not yours...in this case it would be the money...and you do not judge...and seeking legal judgment is still judging...you already from the teacher/school guilty in some form...forgive and let it go

Nothing like mixing a little nationalism in with some proselytizing,eh? Does anyone know a group of Buddhists who would like to come in and invite the students to a friendly meditation of their own around the flagpole? I'm sure the school would be equal in allowing that, right?

Uh you could follow your own advice. I kinow my rights and do not intend to let a school district make personal decisions for my family.

Your RIGHTS are from the GOVERNMENT that you speak of...that or I missed the spot in the Bible that said...DO NOT JUDGE...EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO PRAYING TO ME AT SCHOOL...THAN YOU MOTHER AT R-7 SUE...but only you...Yeah pretty sure...that's not in the Bibles I seen...And MY GOD...THE GOD ...YOUR CHRISTIAN GOD...SAYS LOVE ALL ...JUDGE NONE..unless that wasn't in my copy either...man...must be me..you're right...JUDGE..."FIGHT " for your rights...not LOVE ALL...guess Jesus got it wrong? Or maybe I still have the wrong copy?! Huh?! God Bless...and Good Nite

I've never heard of anything more ridiculous in my life. Because of the crazy rant about the flagpole, I have to wonder if perhaps a Jehovah Witness has got their panties in a wad. They hate the flag, military, etc...just a thought.

WWJD? Jesus would sue! How riddiculous that prayer would be allowed in school. Jesus would sue the school for every penny to make sure that the rest of the children would be uneducated. I mean really? I dont remember Jesus saying if somebody offends you sue them mercilessly for everything, even if that means hurting the community that serves your children. No, dont turn the other cheek, just sue. That will show the world what it means to be Christian

Wow, what a Rant over suing a school. In the Bible it speaks against suing. Esp. frivolous lawsuits. This is a big issue but you as a parent have to teach your children what is right and good in this life; how to be a Responsible citizen, to do for others and to speak out when it is necessary and won't hurt or offend others. We all have the right to our beliefs but we share this planet with billions of others who have those same rights. You should look at this a chance to awaken your children to what is right and to explain that there's no praying to a flag pole. It's prayer from the heart to our God. If you don't want your child there because of religious reasons, tell the school aNd let them know you want them in Study hall And not praying without out you! Grave Digger, on the turning of the other cheek is just giving that person forgiveness of the sin and giving them a chance. It's not to keep turning it so others run you over. We have two cheeks. Next time you politely say what you have to concerning your rights and beliefs and stick to it!

I am so glad I home-school. If anyone is interested it is called Calvert's. It is accredited, too. The courses come with teaching ideas, teacher's manual and it is a great way to make sure your kids are getting a decent education without all the favoritism, cliques, controversy and social brainwashing.

Jehovah's do not hate these things. They simply believe in having only one god and they are fairly serious about the false idol thing. To each their own and this is why the school should not allow this big event. If a student wants to pray over lunch, pray with friends before a game, so be it. But I agree with Concerned that it is highly unlikely such young children actually led a group of peers out to the flag for this and that is the only way school praayer is allowed, is if it is totally student led.
