whos fault was it,,the pawn owners or the person shopping?,,if the guy was shopping,,then the owner is an idiot,,if the shopper carried in a loaded gun,,the owner should of unloaded it right away,,what i think i am saying is,,thank GOD nobody got killed,,could of been worse,,and makes you think before you look at a gun,,,

The owner kept a loaded gun behind counter for self defense in case someone tried to rob the place. An employee dropped the weapon and it went off shooting the customer in the belly and out the lower back/ tail bone area. He was flown to springfield via Air Evac.

Who is to say the potential robbers are the ones he concerned about? I can see some pissed off pawners coming in to find out they lost their item they pawned because of no payment etc. Pawn shops across the nation always have loaded guns JUST in case. Yes, in little ol West Plains, it happens and lately more often. I wouldnt want to be the first business owner caught with my pants down for when it did happen.

Most robbers will be long gone before any police can get there, if you think the police can protect you from stuff like that I pity you if you ever get in that situation.

No the man brought in a loaded gun himself, it was his own gun.

There are way more than one loaded gun in that place there is one in every drawer behind counter and in the owners desk plus his back pocket and a shot gun or two behind the swinging door. And he hires trashy idiots w\no brains so Im suprised this has happened before. I hope this man and his family sue the hell out of this guy. He is a jerk who has gotten by with way more than he should of already and ruined enough good peoples lives with his stupidity. I'd shop elsewhere!!

Let's look at the situation.
1. Loaded gun in pawn shop. ALL GUNS ARE LOADED UNTIL VERIFIED"
2. Gun is dropped. None of us were there to see it so do not know specifically how gun was dropped or bumpped or.... so can not really comments here. Bottom line, gun was loaded and should have been cleared - before going into store but at the very least, upon the time that the gun reached the counter.
3. Man injured. Obviously, immediate actions from those around him did a great job cause he was still alive when emergency units arrived. Emergency service set up a LZ for helo services and man taken to the right place. Great job all there.

Over all, a bad situation could have been prevented or it could have been worse.

Now, the issue about a pawn shop having a loaded gun in hiding. Keep in mind that the shop contains many weapons on the wall. These weapons are seperate from the ammo. Nothing stopping a person from bringing in a couple of rounds in their pockets and loading a firearm.
Will they get robbed? Unknown. Maybe never or maybe at anytime. Robberies do not happen only at night and in big cities. Terrorrist hit soft targets that will get a lot of media. Well, terrorrist probably will not hit this pawn shop but it is a soft target. Lots of weapons that could be taken and are now a danger to other people in the wrong hands (guns don't kill people - people kill people with the tools in their hands). Bad guys get guns, they can do more bad things. So the owner and operators of the pawn shop with their loaded guns are the first line of defense from bad guys getting the tools to do more bad things. I think that the owner/operators should have a pistol (loaded in condition one) on their hip.
Think about this one: If a person robbed the place and obtained some weapons and went on a shooting spree in West Plains killing and/or injuring people, then the posts on here would be more like - why didn't the owner/operators have a loaded gun to stop the bad guys from taking weapons and shooting people. They should be responsible for preventing those guns from entering the wrong hands. Also, people would complain because of how the pawn shop operates the business and find anything else that they could complain about. Put yourself into their shoes and get their view before jumping to conclusions.
Yes, there is a senario in this write up. It is only one of many possibilities. The only one that we can hope for is that the owner/operator is prepared for the worst and only the best happens (no robberies or more incedents).
