Lowes In West Plains

I just talked to a Lowes employee in Mountain Home. He told me that West Plains was in their store area and that Lowes would not put in a store if a larger town has it as their area. There would not be enough business here for a profit to be made.

Then why did Lowes announce they were putting one here in West Plains a couple of years ago, then backed down due to the economy?

Of course, getting your information about corporate decisions from some guy trying to sell you an appliance does not make a ton of sense. Even less believing it!

bob, bob, bob.

So much information so little knowledge.

Omni had too many issues with the founder, the moneys daughter, and the money (her daddy). They finally sold their OSP, and the new company is building it out.

Lowes will get here.

The last thing I heard about Lowes is that they closed/are closing several stores in locations where business is slow. This leads me to believe that West Plains does not stand a chance of getting a Lowes

Forget Lowes who may be coming or not.

That rental store that is here now -- just opened on the north side of town, will give you more good information than any of the hardware stores in town.

I'm working on a hardwood floor, and they really helped me out, gave me info that saved me lots of $$$.

There is a Meeks in Mountain Home, and Mountain Home has a Lowes and a Home Depot. I'd be more willing to bet Walmart would pull out all the stops to prevent it before anyone else would. Walmart would be afraid to lose their employees to a better company with better wages.

If you want to talk evil...Walmart is it.

OMG! We have been stuck in this town at the mercy of the few hardware/lumber yards since its conception!! Its way over due for a lowes that actually has selection and fair pricing! For example ,go to meeks they have a special counter for contractors and im just guessing but i bet they give them a special discount! Im the damm home owner and go in there and pay full price at the front desk not the desk hidden around back for there contractors! There are more of us homeowners than contractors so what the heck?????!!!! Just continue to drive to mtn home!!!

I am married to a contractor and I can attest that you are 100 percent correct. Lowe's generally offers a slightly larger discount than the local supply companies as well as free delivery if you have a Lowe's credit account. Home Depot also offers contractor discounts, they just aren't as generous as Lowe's. While homeowners may not feel that this is right you have to understand that someone who spends hundreds - thousands of dollars a month is a far different customer than the occasional customer spending $100 or less. My husband generally passes a portion of that discount on to his customers but many contractors do not. It's just part of doing business. If contractors weren't getting these discounts believe me their rates/bids would be much higher. Some cases could be pure greed but in most cases it is simply because the cost of doing business (postage, taxes, fuel, insurance etc) has gone up tremendously in the last 2 years.

If you are a homeowner that is planning on doing an addition, remodel, new constuction or buying a large amount of supplies you can get contractor pricing at Meek's, Horn's, and Winnelson without being an actual contractor. Just make sure you talk to management, come prepared with other prices, and tell them that you prefer to buy locally. Just keep in mind that while many people believe contractors are getting massive discounts the discounts average about 10% or less.

You are dead on and a lot of their discounts are based on bulk sales. Most homeowners do not buy in bulk. Home Depot will match and beat Lowes prices by 10% for exact merchandise. They will also honor Lowes coupons.

Well, another year has gone by with no Lowes in site. I heard the city wouldn't let them in. Probably because Meeks and Hermans threw a few $$$ their way. If any of you had been to a Menards, you would say the HELL with Lowes and HD, bring in a Menards store!!!

Really? The city would not let them in? Are you on drugs? The city gave them all the permits, and help they could to get them in town. Lowes said that because of the economy downturn they were putting their plans on hold to come to West Plains.

Sheesh. Trolls.

If I need a few items, I will run over to RP for them. The now seem to beat Meeks in pricing. The other day I broke a plastic pipe coming from our well and needed a replacement. Well, being Sunday, everyone was closed in town (I guess they make enough business on the other 6 days). Had to go all the way to MH for a simple project. Just spent $1500 at Lowes to remodel our two bathrooms. That was just after spending $1200 at Lowes for some flooring. They seem to get a lot of my money that could be spent in Wp IF I didn't have to spend 40%-60% more and IF the local lumber yards had ANY type of product selection Lowes and HD has.
