Really? Never did book/theory work! Then when you were going through RN school what did you do? You are suggesting RN learn about patient care for 2 straight years. That is misleading. Didn't you have to take math, english, and other general requirements prior to entering nursing program? Didn't you take Anatomy and physiology, Microbiology, nursing practice, etc.
Who did your studies about patient outcomes? RN's, LPN's, other?
I have assisted in the teaching of RN's working towards their 4 year degree, Physicans from med student through Resident status. Along with teaching those under me.
I can remember RN complaining to physicans why can't I do that. The physican over the years taught the RN how to do more than empty bedpans, give baths, etc.
Today the same holds for RN's that some feel LPN's are untrained and not as smart.
Won't go back and forth on this. Have sit back in the shadows watching this.
What a medical professional can or can not do is by law and regulations.
The bottom line whether its a RN or LPN. It takes about a year post school. To get their feet on solid ground. With your history, can only hope you are teaching your staff. To be better nurses. Many good LPN's have helped RN's get through that first year. Many LPN'S have gotten better because the RN taught them.
Granted LPN's by law can not give medications IV push. By law or policy a LPN can not admitted or complete an inital assessment. Does that make them any less an important part of the healthcare team. NO!
I have known an RN with a BSN degree who was removed not only from direct patient care. But from doing paperwork as well. This was not at OMC. I have witness RN's at St John's all but say that not my job. Its someone else's. They have to do it! That job exchange a water bottle on a patient that was suppose to receive hunidified oxygen. LAZY! Have seen RN's make comments which are not in the best interest of team work. Simply because they were an RN. Let me pose the following questions; What makes a bad, good, great RN or LPN? Why can't a LPN's admit patients, do assessments, give pushes? Is it because they are not as smart? Is it because they were not trained?
Finally, if an LPN sees a wrong being committed by a RN or Physican. Stops the wrong. Which results in a good patient outcome. Who was better? I can tell you what the patient or family will say.
All medical professionals depend on each other. Its a team effort to provide the safest, cleanest, comfortable, healthy, outcome possible. Toss in compassion that makes a pretty good healthcare provider.
Ever seen a doctor put a patient on a bedpan when no one else is available? Ha!Ha! It is not their job! They must be lazy. No one here has said an RN is better than an LPN. You must be an LPN who is bitter about your position.

Oh, good grief. When is all this gonna stop. You either go to OMC or you don't. You have good and bad experiences all thru life. All employees are at different levels depending on their education. And, what they want to do in life, just as in any business.

Why can't we pay OMC what we (the patient) think they are worth ? I mean then I think that some changes will take place. Like sitting in the waiting room for 6 hours with a child that has a broke wrist. I think that since they charged me $1,659.00 for that visit for sitting ,then I should charge them $ 1,658.00. I think that is reasonable.

OMC is the worst hosipital I've ever seen and I can say the same thing for the hospice. First of all the hospice nurse that came to our house to give my Dad breathing treatments (as my Dads colon cancer had spread to one of his lungs so 1/4 was removed) was a freakin slob to say the least and wanted to hug all over my Dad, he was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy for gods sake! He didn't take to kindly to being hugged by complete strangers. She was getting paid for work that me and my family did as I was the one giving him his treatments when I was 14. In 2005 my Dads cancer spread to his brain and he took a turn for the worse so he was hospitalized. One of the nurses was a complete bitch just because my Mom wanted to know what kind of medicines they had him on because they kept bringing all kinds of shit in there for him to take, which speaking for my entire family, I believe we had the right to know what they were giving him. 2 days before he passed away they kicked him out saying he had exceeded his stay which is bullshit because he had the Cadilac of insurance, Tricare and Medicare so its not like they wouldn't get their money. I don't live there anymore but if something ever happened to me while I was there I would rather go to the damn Vet or die than go to OMC.

Well after looking at all of these comments... I have had a great experience at OMC and it has really turned around.!!! Just the new CEO is on the fast track of compassion and I have seen a huge difference in the hospital as a whole. They are extremely caring and attentive. you need to get past the "PAST" and see what good they do for the community!
I think you need to look at the crummy people they have working there. I found out someone who use to work there was getting into patients records that was not there business. They were fired....

I had my last baby there 12 years ago. The OB was great. The nurses, my doctor... Can't say enough good. But, the ER is and always has been awful, in my opinion. I'd like to see everyone who has bad experiences write or call and complain with facts and NAMES. Maybe that would help encourage a change ?? It's too bad we have a hospital right here and feel the need to travel two hours for care. Oh, and I know a member of the OMC board... He goes to Springfield for medical care...

When I asked around after moving here I was told to go to Mt. Home for a doctor and use the Baxter Hospital and we've been very happy with both our doctor and the hospital. Also needed an ortho doctor at one point for a fractured wrist, Dr. Green off Buttercup did my surgery and I have nothing but good things to say about him. I have full use back of the wrist, do everything I did before, no restritions whatsoever. Most people I know go either to Springfield or Mt. Home.I prefer Mt. Home simply cause it is closer and I still get good care.

ER wait wouldn't be so bad if all the people would stop using it for a 24 hr primary care.

There are govt websites to compare hospitals. Go on and compare them.

I've been in the ER at St Johns it wasn't any better. My father was transferred there by OMC via ambulance and we still had a 3 hr wait before got a room to be admitted.
