I have recently moved to west plains. Is there a popular place that the young professionals generally patronize? I've gone to Hibby's a couple times, and enjoy Ruby Tuesdays, but haven't seen many groups out and about. Mostly just pairs.
I'm in my late 20s, white collar, and attractive, but I don't have any local peers. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Looking for a golf partner ( a patient one... I don't know the first thing about the sport, yet.) and perhaps an occasional dinner/movie companion(s).

Nothing much around here. Try traveling to Branson or Springfield for a better selection of watering holes.

That's a long drive to meet some peers. Lol. I'm not looking for a date necessarily. Just some like-minded people of either sex, around 28-40. I know they exist! This town isn't that small! I can't be the last of my species. College educated and employed at a job that doesn't require a shower immediately after. That's pretty broad.

Not that I have anything against blue-collar workers. We just wouldn't have much to talk about.

Several things wrong with your inquiry: some like-minded people of either sex(that does not exist)...

This town isn't that small!:(yes, it is even smaller than that)...

I can't be the last of my species:(species are animals or plants)...

College educated:(that takes WP population from 10,000 to about 500...98% of those already married)...

a job that doesn't require a shower immediately after:(maybe you do need a shower, and just THINK you don't)...

Your comment gives insight as to who you are. I fall into your criteria, yes little old me. Well with the exception I am an older professional. No offense but I wouldn't hangout with you as you seem like you try to inflate your importance and standing. I've known many good people who hold degrees of higher learning that like to get dirty, for their job, from time to time. Does that make them any less successful? No. So congratulations on not having to shower after work. You have a lot to learn. As I said before you will have to travel as us dumb old hicks, that like to get dirty, are just to dumb to carry on a conversation with a professional such as yourself

I couldn't agree more about the insight as to who the poster is. It will be VERY hard to find any friends with a smarter & better than you attitude. I am a high ranking working professional and my husband owns a trade business. Because of his trade he does get dirty and takes a shower after work because he performs manual labor (crazy concept huh). Does that make him less of a person because he gets dirty or runs a business that would be considered a blue collar trade? Our friends are from all walks of life... we have a varied group of friends. Some are business owners, self employed tradesmen, professionals (dentists, lawyers, law enforcement etc) and those who work factory, retail, waitress etc. Everyone of those people are HUMAN, not one is better than the other due to their job title or intelligence level. Frankly, for the most part the so called blue collar workers are usually the most enjoyable to be around and are the most moral.

Just an fyi to you... you won't get far in this town with a better than you attitude. It won't help you get promoted at any place of employment in this town. You will simply paint a target on your back. But most importantly... there are a lot of blue collar workers making more than the white collared professionals here in WP so don't let your degree inflate your ego. These guys & gals are making more money than you without having to go into student loan debt hell.

You are so narcissistic! Beyond arrogant! No one wants a friend that thinks they are above the other. Everyone makes a contribution in the work force? They have things to talk about besides what color to paint their walls or who's nominated for an academy award. Lmao! I guess you are your best friend since you mention you can't be the last of your species! Lol species, this says you aren't so intelligent!

'Last of my species' was obviously a joke.
I wasn't trying to offend anyone, just being honest, which obviously isn't 'the best policy' around here.

It's kind of like saying 'I don't like smokers'. It's just an opinion. There are definitely some intelligent, educated (not always synonymous), and otherwise 'decent' people that smoke. However, I wouldn't want to spend time having smoke blown in my face. Does that make me a bad or arrogant person as well?

People are allowed to have 'types'. It's no crime.

Your defensiveness and aggressive attitudes show your level of intellect. Educated people don't get angry and talk the way several of you have.

There are lots of intelligent people but mostly they are at home, ball games, grocery store, work, maybe get a vacation but no where to meet them. Someone needs to open a classy Internet cafe. Maybe you can help get it started?

a job that doesnt require a shower immediatley after?,,,so your college educated in the obama era so your job has a 98% chance your on unemployment,,,then along with in west plains all jobs pay way under the nations scale,,,and you dont want to be the last of your species,,,this would make you a weed puffing hippie,,,hmmmm,,,grave digger will think of such a hang out for unemployed weed puffing stinking hippies,,,,the grave digger would have to say,,,you moved to the wrong town,,,cuz weez gots weed puffers,,,unemployed,,,hippies ,,,but at least they take freakin showers you dirty stinking ape,,,ha haa haaa,,,now for the grave digger truth - facts - free advise,,,when calling in sick,,,the one who is missed the most at any job is the person lowest on the totem pole,,,cuz the higher you go up the ladder the less work the employee does,,,which means,,,you wouldnt have a job if it wasnt for the people under you ,,, punk,,,
