It is legal. The copay isn't for the MC+.

The law states "If the primary insurance policyholder doese not qualify for MC+, they will not pay the copay for anyone on the policy, even if they do qualify for MC+".

Basically, since I am the policyholder, they will not pay for my child's copay.

Make sense? Not to me.

Did I say it wasn't legal? I didn't say they were doing anyting wrong "legally".

But c'mon, this is West Plains. If a family qualifies for MC+ and is lucky enough to have primary insurance as well, they obviously aren't getting rich at what they are doing. No other doctor's office charges this.

With that being said, its just another example of the working person trying to make a better life for their family getting the short end of the stick. If I didn't pay $150 a month for insurance for my kids, they would get free medical care. If I didn't work, they would get free medical care.

I strongly disagree with your statement. I had Blue Cross Insurance and medicaid secondary on my step-children. Every doctor they saw said that there was no need to pay a co-pay, medicaid covered it. If your office does different it may be up to the patients to seek answers from their insurance companies and medicaid.
As for the doctors bedside manner, he or she would not have their position if not for the patients that provide their means of living. Specialist or whatever need to remember that without patients and parents of patients they could find themselves on the receiving end of a welfare line and so could their office staff. Im not saying all dr offices are like that, I work for DMH and I see hundreds of offices a year that are wonderful and honestly do appreciate their patients....

Medicaid does cover it. Never had to pay a copay anywhere when my kids had both insurances....

And as far as being a "specialist" and him "fixing my kid and sending us on our way" first off he should have some bed side manner with ALL patients like GOOD doctors do. Second he didn't and still doesn't know what's wrong with my child and only put her through a painful and unnecessary procedure then was very rude to her.

That is not neccessarily true. Income determines whether or not there is no co pay. I work for the state.

It seems even employees of the state in different counties don't know the answer. Here's the number for Legal Services that I was given regarding charging a copay for mc+ secondary---800-444-0514. Hope it helps and you can get a solid answer out of someone.

I won't go back because he decided it wasn't worth his time to persue finding out why I would get a bad sinus infection every couple of years and had annoying sinus drainage almost all the time. I tested positive for a coulple cause but didn't respond to likely treatments. He told me that some people just had sinus drainage and responded with an expensive test once a year that drained my wallet. It was more prudent for me to find another doctor.

Disagree all you want.

It is legal. I am the one who started the discussion about copays and medicaid. I called Medicaid it is their law that if you have private insurance and medicaid and the policy holder of the private insurance is not covered by medicaid, then medicaid will not cover the copays for anyone! The reason you haven't had to pay is because the dr's office isn't charging it. Period!

It is also online somewhere, but I can't find it right now.

Yeah the prices are ridiculous. I wouldnt mind paying my bill if the visit was worth it. I waited over 45 minutes in the waiting room and over 20 minutes in the room. He came in maybe talked for 2 minutes and walked right back out. He spends no time with his patients and has a bad bedside manor. I will drive to springfield to the ENT up there before I go back to Dr.Hull. The billing department lady is a quack also. No wonder everyones bills are screwed up.

Medicaid contracts have changed in the last few years. If you are covered by a group health plan then it is your primary insurance and Medicaid is your secondary payor. You are required to pay the primary insurance copay. Medicaid will deduct this acorn from any amount that they would cover.
