I have a high school diploma and I graduated back in th late 70's. Im disabled and have been for nearly 25 years. I have an incurable neurological disease and get actual Social Security Disability, not a "crazy check" that everyone seems to aspire to around here.

My question if anyone can seriously help is this... I'd like to go back to college to better yself but if I graduate there is really ZERO chance I'll be able to get back into the workforce. I would be doing this just for me and to make my 2 grown children proud.

Does anyone know when take out the loans and aid required will the gov't then start taking it out of my Soc Sec Disability?? I cannot get a straight answer. Soc Sec say sometimes they just write it off. The school says yes they do write it off if your disabled for more than 10 years and the loan companys said "HELL NO" (go figure) they said they will attach my soc sec check each month and take 35%. Please help anyone if you have info better than this please post it here. Again I'd like to better myself but not if I cant use it to get to work( disability will not allow me) abd pay back. Thanks everyone

Let's see if you graduated in the 70's so you are now in your mid 50's. Now you say you have been on disability for 25 years that means you have been on it since your late 20's. So now you want gov money to go to school and set in class. My question is if you can go set in class, why can't you get a job as a secretary? I can see someone wanting to better their self but if you have no desire or will or way to use that education why waste the resources. Let some poor kid have it instead that will do something with that education. I am not being mean but if you can go to class you can do some kind of work. And if you will not do anything with that education, let someone else have the funds to get it. You say you want it for free, wonít be able to use it and donít want to give anything back. So I guess I fail to see your point. Sorry but just being honest.

my friend and her about 12 year older boyfriend, recently enrolled in college to get student loans.. instead of getting a house for him and her they have decided to spend the money on broke down vehicles. does this make sense to anyone since the facts are that they have to stay with friends or family and bum all the time?? I keep telling her to dump a dead beat and find someone her own age because at this point a guy her age would probably make more responsible decisions but she wants to stay?? should I tell her just to stop talking to me about him if she chooses to ignore my advice? she only got with him because he got her out of the house... now she stuck with him please give me and my friend some advice don't hold back!!
if you don't want to hear the complaining tell her so. The rest of it is none of your business. End of story.

better yourself by learning on your own. If you aren't going to use the diploma for anything you are simply taking away someone else's spot and financial aid. Your disability keeping you from work sucks, but it doesn't keep you from learning.

I figured I'd get that kind of response. Im in a wheelchair and yes since my 20's. It's sucked not being able work and walk for that matter, but thanks you didn't disappoint with your very Republican reply...

If anyone actually knows the answer to my questions please again let me know. Im not looking to screw the Gov't and such. Just get an education from quality teachers and better myself. Im not looking to take out extra loans just the bare minimum to attain a college diploma, thanks again for any info

I am not a repub nor a dem. Sorry you are in a wheel chair. I gave you my honset answer as a person. If you can't handle it, then don't ask. Go waste the money and time on an education you can't use and let some kid that needed that money to get an education wait. It's kind of like cooking a meal then throwing it out. The choice is yours.

I don't think you are looking to screw anyone. All I'm saying is that by getting the "bare" minimum in loans and taking classes you are taking aid and a spot from someone else. Secondly teachers at that level are generally considered the worst in the country. See the crap Mizzou is going through. See what Mo State West Plains is going through because of their level of teaching.(they are getting tested for accreditation) My whole point is that you could easily educate yourself just as well as any teacher. Now if you need the social aspect of sitting in a class and learning, more power to you, but to go to school just to get a piece of paper to show to people is not only doing a disservice to others, it's a disservice to yourself. You have clearly made it this far in life with some real challenges, and I say not only should you go for an education, but don't stop there. There are plenty of nontraditional jobs out there. If you can live with your challenges, does some puny job really scare you? I don't think so.

As for loans, your social security will most likely be garnished.

Gravedigger, you seem to be a control freak coupled with ADHD tripled with low self-esteem, quadrupled with schizophrenia. Life gets belter when you finally grow up and move out from your parentsí house (which in your case will be in your mid to late 50ís for you will live there until they die hoping you get the house) so in your case life will always suk. You are such a joke gravedigger you are why I even come to this WP thread to read your lame comments of running people down to make yourself feel better. Grow up, get a job, try to have life and let go of your gay feelings or follow them. That choice is yours. LMMFAO

I as well must apologize for my son gravedigger. I am his father. I was and still am a truck driver and was gone a lot in his childhood. He didnít have a father figure as his mom explained. We over looked him molesting the family dog but when he molested his little sister we did step in and say something. Alas it wasnít enough for then he started trying to molest his mother. We then did have his mentality checked and they told us he could not comprehend reality. Soon after that is when he started breaking into other peopleís houses and stealing their computers. That was bad enough then he started molesting their pets and children. We do what we can to try to keep him locked in the basement but he does get out from time to time and get on a computer. Many times we donít even know it until the cat comes up pregnant and then we know he has been out. So again except are apologies. We try but graverdigger is a very sick person and we do all we can. I guess have him committed is our next step but then who would keep the cat population going. LOL
