Thats right folks. Cat in Pomona laid off all its temp help from Penmac Services. How do I know? I was one of them. They brought in all the day and night shift temps and shot us down in cold blood. Cat employees were in their own meeting. Dont know what they were told. I do know the reason being that orders have dramatically dropped to more than half the norm because of the recession. Anyone know where a guy could get a job? This sucks. Ho Ho Ho.

Wow thats going to hurt a lot of workers at this time of year. Did anyone say if this is a long term lay off or just till the first of the year?

I hate that you are laid off, but you were working for a TEMP service - TEMPORARY.

Shot you down in cold blood? Nah...

The cold blood thing was just theatrical wording. The lay off is until numbers go up. That is anybodies guess at this point. I can honestly say that the temp service rep was very, I mean very upset for having to come in on such short notice and give us the bad news. We all had figured this would happen right at Christmas or shortly after. But to no avail. We were told however to file for unemployment due to the fact the temp service has no manufacturing openings at this time. There were about 12 temps on the weekly day and night shift and somewhere around the same for the weekend shift. Thanks for all the comments and will be out on Tuesday puttin apps in and around the area. I have already got online and filed my claim at missouricareersource.com . I now believe we are not in a recession but the start of a major depression.

My g/f's son in law was working at invensys a few weeks back (manpower I believe) and they did the same thing to him. They weren't very professional about it either, I am surprised they didnt bring in the law and serve restraining orders because they were just about that rude to them.
Cat surprises me though, they have been adding on and adding on and hiring people left and right.
The g/f's son in law did get a job in Mtn. View at Smith's flooring after being off for only a week, so you might check there. I don't know if they are taking any more or not, but will keep my ears open.

i know a person in management very well at cat in pomona. yes i agree that it is a bad time of the year to be laid off. the fact is that the penmac temps were not the only ones targarted for lay off.
this person may be layed off too and he/she is not temp. they have been there for several years. so don't blame the pomona cat company for things they have to do because of the shape our economy is in. you can blame the republicans for that...

Nobody is blaming Cat. They are only trying to stay afloat like all the other places. Like I said in the other comments, I dont know what they told the Cat employees but, alot were thinking that Cat would probably offer voluntary lay offs. I have nothing against Cat and hope to be able to go back once the production goes back up.

Just an update. Cat employees were asked to take volunteer lay offs. They are supposedly not gettin the usual holiday perks that they are used to. PLEASE dont blame Cat. This is entirely due to the recession causing the lack of orders.
Also, I want to say thanks to all who commented on here and hope that everyone has a wonderful and very MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I know many of the Penmac people that got laid off from CAT and none of them that I have talked to are blaming CAT. The only people they are blaming is the government. I heard that things are supposed to get better in March. I sure hope they can make it until then and hire the employees back on.

Was told that Regal Beloit let a night supervisor go. Is there any truth in that?
