I live in California and mailed 2 1956 license plates to subject company last year August 2006. I have contacted the company by letter and each time they tell me 'next week". I have been very patient but I start to doubt whether this company is for real. They already charged my credit card for $268 several months ago. I don't know exactly what to do and hope that someone in Duyea can help me. The person I talk to at Darryl's is Jean.
Thak you from a frustated customer.

I am having a similar experience with Darryl's. I sent my license plate in March 2007 and they advised at the time that it would take 90 days to accomplish the reconditioning. They charged my credit card in July 2007 but the license plate has not been returned. I also called in July, September & December 2007 and each time I was advised the license plate was near completion and would be returned to me within the next few weeks. Please let me know if you have had any luck getting your license plates returned.

Hey folks, I've had previous dealings with Darryl's and I have found them reputable and their level of craftsmanship second to none! They tell you up front "It takes what it takes" and no one means that as much as they do. If you can't deal with that they would be the first to ask you to take your business elsewhere. My suggestion is that from experience they are 100% worth the wait, no doubt! Absolutely no rip offs here, they just really can't and won't be rushed. Good luck, your patience will be rewarded.

They have had my plates for just over 4 years, YES 4 (FOUR) YEARS! I have talked to them over 30 times and still no plates. The irrony is that they now advertise 2 or 4 week rush delivery on their website. Since I didn't pay for this (they didn't offer it 4 years ago) I now fear all the rush jobs are being worked on instead of mine! I guess I need to call the PA Attorney General or I will never get my plates back! Oh yes, they are very fast to bill your credit card in full!

Sent a pair of California plates to Darryl Booth and was told on the day they were received that the process would take THREE MONTHS and that I would be contacted when the plates were finished and not to call before three months had elapsed. After three months, to the day, I was contacted and told some bulls**t story by his WIFE OR MOTHER that the plates would be finished soon. When I challenged her double-talk and demanded a firm timeline, JEAN BOOTH (sounds like an old lady so I think she is really his mother) refused to speak with me and referred me to Darryl. Darryl double-talked and did not hear from either for another 30 days.
I decided to beat them at their own game and, since I hadn't paid for the plate work, I sent a cancellation letter, requesting the immediate return of the plates. DARRYL FLIPPED OUT!!! He called and left several messages, each ruder than the previous, trying to defend his poor work ethics with explanations, demands and general rudeness. I never returned his calls and filed a complaint with the State of PA Attorney General Office; I was told by their secretary that they had numerous complaints against Darryl's and it was pretty common for them to have to retrieve plates for customers. My complaint was, as with my letter to Darryl's, factual and clearly stated the purpose of my demand letter. Darryl's response to the AG was a complete fabrication and an attempt to slander me since he had no defense.
End result was that the AG's office instructed Darryl to bring the plates to their office where they inspected them and arranged for their payment. They then mailed the plates to me and I never had to deal with Darryl or Jean Booth EVER AGAIN! Yippee!!!
Darryl's is basically an unsophisticated operation and when cornered, resort to petty, underhanded tricks to defend themselves rather than take responsibility for their actions.
Believe me, if you must deal with Darryl's, do the following:
1. DO NOT PREPAY YOUR ORDER.
2. DO NOT ALLOW MORE THAN THE QUOTED TIME ALLOTED TO PASS WITHOUT SENDING A DEMAND OR CANCELLATION LETTER.
3. IMMEDIATELY FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE STATE OF PA AG OFFICE (ON LINE OR BY MAIL). THEY ARE VERY RESPONSIVE.
4. IF, AS IN MY CASE, DARRYL'S REFUSES TO ACCEPT YOUR CREDIT CARD BECAUSE HE FEARS YOU WILL DISPUTE THE CHARGE, CONTACT MASTERCARD AND VISA AND FILE A COMPLAINT - HIS REFUSAL OF THEIR RESPECTIVE CREDIT CARDS IS A VIOLATION OF HIS VENDOR AGREEMENT WITH EACH CARD ISSUER.

Just some tips to avoid the bulls**t those two evil people like to put customers through.

I know Darryl booth personally and I also happen to be the mixer of the paint he uses for every plate. I know Darryl for sure to be a 100% stand up guy who uses only the best materials and actually seeks out USA made tools. The man is a true perfectionist so please be patient and wait for him to finish you plate.

I guess every individuals situation is different. I sent him a plate last year. Talked with his (MOTHER)...Said it would be three months and was called three weeks later saying it was finished..Upon receiving the item it was FLAT-OUT GORGEOUS.....I sent him 2 more plates last week. If it takes 3 weeks or 6 months I really don't care..I know the quality of his work and when there done there done...It's well worth the wait!

Update.....Darryl's received my pair of 1925 plates the third week of January and called me March 13th and they were finished. The pair I'd sent had serious surface rust a few holes and some wavyness. They were returned to me flat gorgeous! I would recommend his services to anyone. Thank you so much DARRYL"S for the fantastic job you have done on all 3 of my plates you've restored for me....A fisrt class job!

I also sent my 1954 Washington plate and was told or lied to that the plate was in the mail, I had to threaten them with a civil suit before getting any response.

Darryl's offers a 2 week or a 1 month turnaround or it is free, what more could you ask for ? why didn't you use this service ? if you didn't get your Washington plate on time you would have a pocket full of $ but then you wouldn't have anything to complain about.

What was the condition of your plate. Was if damaged beyond repair, I know he is the only one that will take the time to repair anything and put it back to the condition it should be. I see how long it took but never any comment of what did it look like when you sent it, give him a break, It sounds like he is doing you a favor by fixing it.

You seem to have the answer to everything and know it all from credit card rules to how to run a this business, except that for your order to be shipped it MUST BE PAID for. If you didn't contact the Attorney General I would still have your plates in one of my unpaid boxes that I have been filling since 1989. If you were trying to get your order for free it backfired, and you were forced by the Attorney General to PAY FOR THEM. Because of customers like you, orders must be paid when I feel it is necessary. Anyone that has a problem with this rule can personally thank you for the results. When you vent your frustrations be sure to tell that I didn't get my plates because I didn't pay for them, or keep it under your your own hat.

I have used Darryls before around (2010) and yes in my experience it took much more time than expected. However, I CAN VERIFY you get every penny'w worth with their plates. Darryls is the best plate restoration I have ever seen!!! Just plan double time. If they say a year give it two and you wont be disappointed. RB

Back in 2009 I sent Daryl's my 1956 California plates. I was immediately called and told how long and how much. I was not billed until the plates were finished. The plates were gorgeous and in my estimation perfect. Even the DMV here in San Francisco wanted to know where I found 1956 plates in such good condition. Daryl's is nothing but the greatest! My only regret is that I waited until now to write this review. I'm sending them a set of 1939 World's Fair (Calif.) plates.

Daryl's is great! AAAAA+++++!

To those commenting that some of us should have paid the extra money for fast service, as for me I was willing to wait 3 or 4 months so 2 to 4 weeks wasn't an issue for me. Unfortuately for me I sent them to him in July of 2012 paid shortly after and now everytime I call I am told they will be done soon.

PS I really don't have a gripe I just wish I would have known a little better up front what the game plan was. I haven't talked to anyone that wasn't very happy with the result when they recieved their plates.

I just wanted everyone to know that I received my plates today and they are outstanding. Terrific workmanship and worth the wait easpecially if I would have realized how long it could take. I would definately suggest the fast service but there is no disputing the quality.
