We are feed up with insurance. Why not start a system where we are responsible for our own actions.

Good, the joint and several liability nonsense was just a rip off. We need to just do away with the "somebody's gonna pay" mentality in this country and accept a little responsibility for our own actions...

The legal leeches got cut off of their blood so now they don't sue. What happened to all that "caring" for the injured. Remember, they were almost touting that they were in law for consumer protection. Then the legislature put a stop to it, and if they wouldn't have, we wouldn't have any doctors. In some specialties, it's hard to get a physician now.

Nice-- there's no money in it for them, so they won't do it "for the people."

I'll admit that some malpractice cases are genuine, but some cases were just excessive, and now what? We have nothing. So hope you never find yourself in this situation of bonafide need, because all the leeches of past bled a great system dry before you could get to it.

for years The lawyers abused the system and made fortunes so now the pendulum swung the other way. The drum beat from the lawyers is "were hear to help the injured" yeah right no one believes that anymore. The lawyers were irresponsible and didn't think about tomorrow just how much they could rape the system so here we are.
They just moved onto other industries such as drug manufactures and the same thing will happen there also.
Just consider this fact Florida's population is approximately 16,000,000 and there are roughly 70,000 lawyers in the state (according to the Florida bar) or put another way 1 lawyer for every 228 man, women and child in the state. I don't know about you but that seems to many to me.

SS headlines says it all about the entitlement mentality so pervasive in our country. Not about finding the right doctor to guide you to good health but about what if you can't sue him if he doesn't. Now that's sick.

The only people involved in healthcare that genuinely care for the patients are the doctors and nurses who sacrifice years of their lives studying and training, and getting into unbelievable debt in order to dedicate themselves to caring for the sick.
Lawyers and insurance companies have only one goal in mind: to make money. The needs of the patient are secondary to this goal, as evidenced by this article, and by the ongoing unpleasant experiences patients have when dealing with their insurance companies.
Insurance companies, lawyers and legislators continue to make it more and more difficult for physicians to practice medicine and take care of the sick, and the only ones who suffer are the patients. Lets continue to fight frivolous lawsuits and disempower insurance companies and put the focus back on faciltating care for the sick.

All the P.O.S. attorneys that get on tv just want to help us so bad if they think they can make a dime off of us. As soon as they find out there is no money in it for them then they say f*** it. They act like they give a crap for us while trying to get us to call them. They can all go die.

We were always told that the main reason for high medical bills was due to the high cost of mal-practice insurance and that if we limited award amounts, the cost would go down.

I don't know about the rest of you, but has anyone's medical bills decreased? I've seen the signs at Dr's offices stating that they are self insured. Did they pass the cost savings down to the patient? No. They pocketed the difference. And now, they don't have to worry about liability either.

I'm not a lawyer, but if a Dr. made a mistake because he was hungover or in a hurry and I can no longer provide for my family, then the Dr should be liable. Not anymore.

So if Drs can be self insured, why can't drivers? I wreck your car, too bad, all I have is $5. You broke a leg during the accident. I'm really sorry, get over it.

Was there abuse, absolutely. But as always, the pendulum has swung too far the other way.

"Malpractice" my ****. Doctors make mistakes just like anyone else. If you have some kind of medical procedure done and you know the risks ahead of time, you're not entitled to 10 billion dollars if something goes wrong. At least make the damage amounts somewhat reasonable instead of picking random 6- or 7-digit bulls.hit numbers. And then you morons wonder why your health insurance costs so much.
This moron thinks health insurance premiums are high because the health insurance providers are making huge profits. Also, if the number of lawsuits are decreasing, the physicians malpractice premiums should be decreasing, right. Why aren't they> Who is getting all that extra money? The insurance companies, that's who. While everyone was pointing fingers at the trial lawyers, the insurance companies were laughing at you all and counting their money! W

Our society has been brainwashed by the insurance industry and the politicians whose pockets are lined with money given by the insurance companies. Lawyers protect those average citizens who are incapacitated by the rare instances in which there is gross negligence by doctors. Greedy insurance companies are the ones who are forcing doctors out of business and forcing homeowners to lose their home due to intentionally ever rising premiums. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid people.......... And, no, I'm not a lawyer.

To all of you lawyer haters - you better hope you're never in a position to need a lawyer! Lawyers founded this country, wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Lawyers defend the rights of the citizens of this country.

BTW- the quote from William Shakespeare's "the 1st thing we do is kill all the lawyers" was spoken by a character who wanted to get rid of the lawyers who were the defenders of the rights of people. In other words, he was affirming that to take advantage of a people, first you had to get rid of the defenders of the people -- the lawyers.

You might actually want to read Shakespeare before pretending that you know something about it.

I say you lawyer-haters are all a bunch of morons who couldn't get into law school if you tried -- much less pass the Bar exam! Jealous, jealous, jealous!

Lawyers do more harm than good now days. Instead of being used when legal action is necessary, they advertise on TV to see if you can think of anything to sue for. These leaches spend years in school learning the loopholes of the system so they can take someone else's money. When a drunk runs over somebody, they deserve to get sued, but 90% of the lawsuits are ridiculous! An inmate convicted of murder sued the state over the kind of peanut butter he was served in prison. If you defend that, you are truly a POS! Lawyers have done it to themselves! They have taken advantage of the system for too long and I will be happy to see them struggle with money and get thrown out on the streets.
