"Do we blame the book repository building, or its proprietor, when John F. Kennedy was shot from its window? Do we blame the West Newbury, Mass., town hall when someone enters the building during the day and shoots two people? "

Would we blame the repository or security at town hall if there were problems over and over and it happened? Probably.

Are you kidding! Santoro's is to a point at fault. They let the slum of Lowell in there. They have no cameras. They allow crack heads to get there fix in the bathroom. They allow prositutes to have there johns pick them up inside the place. They know there sleazy. There are lots of things they could do to avoid trash going in there. Yet, they have done nothing. Closing early is a step in the right direction. But, like they said its only "temporary".

To a point Martin's right. Scum will always find a place to fight. Even if all establishments were closed at that late hour, the scum might have picked an empty parking lot or someone's apartment or just the middle of a street. The area Santoro's is in dosen't help. They should put up security cameras. I imagine their liability insurance will probably go up after this incident.

So there should be a "doorman" deciding who gets in and who doesnt???? Remember two words "Personal Responsibility".

Was it the original Bob Newhart show(with Suzanne Pleshette) that had the drunk Carlton the Doorman? What's he doing these days? Come to lowell. There's a job opening for you at Santoro's. LMAO.

Gimme a break. The place is a dump. They cater to the thugs. If not, this tragic situation would have never happened.
You want to serve to thugs be prepared to deal with the consequences.

Santoros has the right to be open and the fact that misguided criminal types are ruining his business is not Santoros fault, but on a more serious note the writer of this letter states he has be eating there since 1969, so I think he needs to get his arteries checked.

I suppose if they denied said "thugs" they would be in trouble for that too. We are so politically correct these days as you know. We all know what happens in there. If someone chooses to go there late night you take that risk. Its to bad these "thugs"/ drunks don't grow up and stop acting like little children fighting on the playground.

Santoro's should be hiring a police officer between those ill-at-be hours, unfortunately times are changing and not for the better in some cases, if you are going to be opened and servicing that particular crowd you have to take some responsibility, I'm sorry this is the way I feel, and I'm not blaming Santoro's at all but taking all into consideration if I were the business owner and making a choice to stay open for that crowd well then I would either have to hire a cop or close at midnight.

Why not open a Police Substation there like they have on the bakery on Gorham st. Make sure there is a cell and police can just walk them to jail.
