My town of West Milford doesn't have much crime, and I don't think I've ever heard of a police officer having to fire his gun and I've lived here 20 years. Two of my boys are driving now and both have been pulled over numerous times because the police officers say they looked suspicious. Neither have records nor speeding tickets, but there are 2 police officers in our town that will always make them get out of the car, pat them down and search the car... without asking or getting permission. They have to stand there while the police repeatedly ask where the drugs are and if the kids question their rights, they are told that they (the police) can do whatever they want. Before letting them go, they will usually warn them that they will be watching them. One actually told my son he can pull him over for anything he "pulls out of his ass". Many of their friends have been getting the same treatment & by the same two policemen. I'm really fed up & feel powerless in how to stop this. Anyone with legal background know if something can be done? This has almost become a weekly occurance and my oldest son is getting to the point where he is afraid to drive. Most parents worry that their teens will get killed by speeding or a drunk driver, I have to worry about the very people sworn to protect and serve!

We have had a similar problem with 1 police officer in town He has told our oldest son nearly the same thing. He told him he will get him & to watch his ass.He has never had a ticket or anything.I have to wonder why too.
They should patrol the neighborhoods more, maybe the cars in our neighborhood wouldn't have been broken in to. But, the criminals that scout the neighborhoods know the cops here are busy running radar on the highway or the main roads.

I'm glad that the West Milford Police are pulling your sons over. I don't know where you have been lately lady, but we have an arsonist in my neighborhood. Hopefully, the cops will be able to use their guns soon. They are allowed to shoot arsonist. Four homes have been burned to the ground and a suspicious forest fire. I hope they pull over anyone that looks at them the wrong way. I have kids driving around the lake everyday like maniacs. Illegal unregistered dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, race bikes passing people doing wheelies, Copper bikes with no mufflers and now an arsonist. I feel the police should do more. Give the cops a break and let them do their job. Take the pacifier out of your sons mouth.

WMTAXPAYER,maybe you should reread what I wrote. The cops should be doing there jobs by patrolling the neighborhoods & not park & run radar.Don't dare preach to me about my sons & pacifiers,my family consists mostly of police officers & my sons also are pursuing becoming cops.Maybe you should take the pacifier out of your ass or put one in it since that's where your talking out of.
I too am a taxpayer & my family including our sons are upstanding, respectable citizens.

Respectable, It sure sounds like it with your post. I don't think the cops need someone that goes back to his mommy everytime he has a problem. Good luck.

Well you sound more like a cry baby, you complain about things & do nothing about it but pout.
Oh P.S My husband is a police officer, just not in this town. My son did not come back & tell his mommy,he was "man enough" to handle the situation. We found out through a concerned citizen who witnessed what went on.

Just to let you know...I posted my first message in response to WM Mom's initial post. Unless your the same person and replying to yourself maybe you should take some meds and relax! I know you won't because you sound like a know-it-all and like to blame everyone else for your poor parenting skills. I've been in more court rooms than you could imagine. Don't assume that I don't get involved. Good luck with your sons or son and West Milford's finest.

If you reread your first post, you were speaking about both our sons.
I have excellant parenting skills along with my husband.
Yes,it's wonderful that you yourself seem to become crass when your opinion is not agreed with.
My husband also has spent numerous hours in a courtroom ,in his profession & if the harassment to our son continues over a high schoolish attitude of 1 of WM finest. It leaves us to resolve it with a complaint & IA taking over.
Sir to you a good day, good luck with your neighboorhood issues. I feel the need to no longer respnd to you.

If your husband is a cop, which I doubt. He would handle it a different way. Instead of IAD. He should go in and talk to the cop first. Enough said on this issue.

I've read the posts, and I can say similar things have happened with my son.It was over a girl. The cop said he would get him someday and he couldn't do a thing about it.
We talked with a friend who is an attorney, his advice was to go to the police station and speak with the Chief. They would take it from there.
The police should concentrate on protecting and serving the community.

I also had a problem with a WM Officer last week with my daughter. I also live in WM and my daughter had her first accident. When I got to the scene of the accident the officer was talking and treating her like a criminal. His attitude and tone of voice with me was enough to file a complaint with the police dept against him. I was told the would be an internal investigation and the police dept would get back to me. I wonder if it is the same officer WM Mom has a problem with! An Officer on a power trip!!!!! It's to bad when good kids in town are treated this way, when the do need help they are going to be afraid to call the police!

Unfortunately there is a bad apple on the WMPD.Apparently complaints have been made on one officer in particular,he seems to take it just a little too far.I am quite curious if this is the officer who has abused his badge with the above complaints? Something needs to be done.Did the WMPD get back to you on there Internal Investigation? Probably not,and if so,I'm sure they found no wrong doing. If you are not pleased you can take it a few steps further and above there heads.Residents children should not fear calling the PD when in need of help, only to be verbally abused,I wish you all luck.

It seems like the WMPD Officer needs to grow up and possibly needs some child rearing of his own.

We do not take to kindly to these sort of things and things will be changed..

My son was pulled over in our little town in Nebraska on Friday the officer knew his birthday before he even gave him the license we have a thing here called a school permit that allows them to drive to and from school by themselves if they live more than 2mi from school. He drives 1 1/4 miles of gravel to the highway in a immaculate 98 mustang gt instead of 2 1/4 miles the other way the cop that stopped him told him if he ever catches him on the highway again he would ticket him and he won't drive until 18 also my son has a atv which is allowed here in the country where we live and this cop said if he catches him on it he will take it away and "I will catch him if it is the last thing I do"
On Thursday night there was a report of a "white mustang" doing burnouts on the highway at night my son don't go anywhere by himself except school -- we are home all the time. I measured the marks they are 6-8 inches too small and took photos to show the cops when I meet with the sheriff. What else can be done?? He also told me that he can take another mile of gravel since my husband is an auto paint and body tech and he can fix the rock chips. My son drives about 20 mph on gravel with the car. He is honest about the burnouts and did show me one he did on another road and I have pics of it for comparison. He also told me if "he" measures the marks he will issue him a citation didn't say if they are his I know they are not.. since I know the tire size and we have no other tires to change them to.

I have something of interest to everyone, particularly the Gay community. Union County, GA issued my friend 4 traffic citations. We have them in our possession. They were written on March 23, 2009 but dated March 3, 2009. One ticket reads, in the comment section, that a brake light bulb was "almost" blown. Another ticket states that his tires were "almost" slick. Another states that his car is unsafe to drive even though we have a written receipt from a licensed auto repair shop stating that this vehicle has absolutely nothing wrong with it and has been very well maintained.
At the time the citations were written my friend was arrested and held for 48 hrs in jail and was not given a reason as to why he was being held. His own biological mother was never told why they were holding him in custody even though he was supposedly held for simple traffic violations.
When he was finally released, they served him with a warrant for conspiracy to commit a crime. They accused him of trying to sell a dangerous drug known as montelukast (a simple based allergy pill known as singulair given to infants from 6 months of age to adults) it is non-narcotic drug. He doesn't have a prescription for this drug and never has. He has always been against drugs and has never participated in the indulgence of them. The only reason these people are harassing him is because he is a gay male.
Union County, GA needs to stop with the harassment of gays and lesbians. I was with him personally one evening when he was pulled over supposedly for a “almost“ blown tail light. When we looked we found no blown light.
They are now taking him to superior court for these so-called traffic violations. Not only has this caused him stress and suffering, but to make matters worse, they took his cell phone, his limited edition remington pocket knife and other things from him and never returned them.
We are seeking an attorney and when these bogus charges are dropped we hope to file a discrimination suit against Union County, GA and the officials that did this. We feel it is important to stand up against bigotry and hate. Discrimination against Gays has got to end. Thank you and may God bless you.

My grandson here in Florida is being harassed by a policemen also. He follows him around and stopped him recently for a brake light being out. He was approaching my grandsons car in the other lane and recognized him, made a fast U-turn and followed him for awhile and then pulled him over. No way did this cop have any way to have seen a tail light coming from the opposite direction. He is an intimidating bully who smirks and threatens kids with jail time . He kept this kid far longer than is allowed for the type of traffic violation, kept insisting for permission to search the car and got very angry and even threatened the passenger (a young girl) with jail. I went to the police station and filed a complaint. My Grandson is now too afraid of the police to do that . He doesn't like to drive anywhere as he knows this bully is just waiting to stop him.
