How dare you criticize these band kids. Not every one is cut out to do sports. All of these kids work their butts off. For what, a bunch of ignorant gown ups to condemn them and mock them. These kids have taken hours upon hours of music lessons that our school district has supplied. They may not be that good now and out of step, that is why they are there..TO PRACTICE.
From the Silks to the Starlettes to the band members, IT TAKES WORK. They give their time and their efforts to perform. They practice in the summer, after school, and whenever they are needed. Many nights they give up their dinner at hometo practice and then no matter how exhausted they are, they do their homework. They sell fundraiser after fundraiser to complete what is required of them. These are all a hard working bunch of young adults. ALL OF THEM.
Instead of mocking them and running them into the ground. try supporting them. But that would not be the West Mifflin way now would it? Mock and make fun of and criticize
that is the way.
No wonder our kids don't have a chance of success in this school district. It is all because of the likes of you people.
Go pay to see the football games and support our school.Bless these great bunch of kids and thank them for their time and efforts.
All the fatties are in the band cause they cant get into sports. They carry Big Mac's inside their pockets to eat after playing a few songs.
I say take 10 laps around the stadium before each performance.
We should teach these fat kids about proper exercize and eating healthy.

They should be good now and in step. Good bands are already. And they haven't been called "silks" in 20 years. They're flags. Welcome to the 21st century. Shows how outdated even the people who teach them are if they still call them "silks".

The band reels back the years with "That '70s Show," a performance that includes rock and soul numbers from the decade such as "Taking it to the Streets," "Disco Inferno," "We're an American Band," and Chase's "Get it On."

The marching unit 118 musicians, 24 silks and 16 Starlet dancers will get it on under the direction of Jeff Kesser, who's moved in to position of director after serving as assistant director for the past seven seasons.

Other new staff this year include Mick Deutsch and Kerri Beth Pollock as assistant directors, Carl Gorr as drum line instructor, JoAnn Hasson as silks director and Mandy Snyder as director of the Starlets.

The non-competition band hosts its home festival the band's biggest fund-raising event on Sept. 24 at the high school and plans to march in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World this spring.

The band and all of the auxiliary units are a waste. If the school district insists on keeping them, they should be limited to performing at home football games only. No need to send 5 or 6 buses of band geeks to an away game to perform for less than 5 minutes. It's not worth wasting our tax dollars for this useless activity. The kids can stay home and have a circle jerk.

I agree, all away games the parents should transport their kids to the games, look at the savings we can have to spent on other foolish things.

i'm a sophmore at wmahs. all of you judging our band have NO idea how hard this past year has been on us. first off, the budget cuts scared the music program and we lost tons of money. we barely use our own money for our supplies. the band parents help us by CHOICE, we FUNDRAISE to people willing to buy, and we make use of what we have. another thing is, we DO need work. but last years senior class was huge and we lost 20+ of our best players. mr. barnes isnt leading our drumline causing a slight struggle. mr. smeal isn't our director anymore and that affects the entire band. we work EXTREMLY hard to get better at everything we try to achieve. regardless, none of you ignorant, judgmental people have the right to judge us without knowing how hard we truely work. we go for 7 1/2 hours for 10 days in august to learn an ENTIRE show plus parade. in the heat, rain, cold. we get frequent water breaks but the heat still gets to some, and sometimes people pass out. we are a discaplined, civilized band. we have been mistaken for a college band at band festivles and parades; by JUDGES. i don't care what anybody says.. we are all there working hard to achieve one goal; our passion for music. one last thing, shut up with the damn sterotypical crap. we aren't band geeks. we are intelligent, talented huming beings. 95% of the band isn't even close to overweight by the way. furthermore we probably lose weight during our practices. to conclude, before you go judging a hardworking band, think about our struggles and learn your facts before talking shit on us. i'd like to see all of you hypocrytes memorize multiple songs, learn drill, and march continuously through heat under hot band uniforms. we work very hard. enough said.

Enough said.
