I am looking for any information on John Mark Byers who used to reside in West Memphis, Arkansas. I am researching the West Memphis murder case involving three eight year old boys in 1993. If you knew Mark Byers and are willing to speak to someone about his past, I will listen to you. Email me at westmemphiscase at hotmail dot com

That pretty much covers it. Last I heard he was living in Marked Tree but that was years ago.

I know his wife died mysteriously & he was never questioned. i hope you find what you need & i hope the cops do have the right 3 guys, so far!

Look.. Interested..

Do you have any idea how many Junior detectives have come through West Memphis looking for "clues"

Everytime they show those docu-movies, some Nancy Drew calls the police station or goes onto the websites and starts searching for clues they believe are out there but the police just refuse to see.. Every junior college criminology major things they can do a better job..

There are two billboards from the FREE the WM3 group up in town with a Tip phone number and how many responses do you think they get??

Everyone makes assumptions about this case based on what they saw on those little movies.. not facts, not testimony or presented evidence.

The movie showed Byers to look guilty, so what does everyone who watches the movie assume??

It's the same song and dance we've heard played out a thousand times already. Even you say that he wasnt questioned..

What's your basis for that statement? Something you saw in the media? Read on a website?

Good luck Nancy Drew..

Interested, thank you for your response. I appreciate it.
Hmm, I have been researching this case for many years. I know people involved in this case, I've been to the WMPD and gone through their files, and I've been around long enough to know what the real issues are. Mark Byers is a man who does not have a reasonable alibi for afternoon and evening of May 5th, going into the morning of May 6th. He has lied about his involvement in multiple aspects of the case and he's currently attempting to throw another person, Terry Hobbs, under the bus. If Terry Hobbs committed these murders then I believe the evidence will ultimately show this. However, Mark Byers has told many lies about what he was doing. Not only have three children died on his watch, but his wife died from "undetermined" causes three years later. I have spoken to witnesses who directly contradict what Mr. Byers has to say regarding all of these deaths. I know too much to turn my back on this case now.
As I said before, if someone would like to talk to me about Mark Byers I will listen to you. I know there are people out there who may not have listened to you before, or may have bullied/threatened you into keeping quiet. I know how this works because it has happened to me. I don't even care about that. The only thing I care about is the victims of these crimes. It is time for the little boys who were murdered to finally receive the justice they deserve. I believe he is either directly or indirectly involved in these murders and I'm leaning toward directly.

I thought that Mark Byers was in court from 4pm to almost 7pm on that Weds that the three boys disappeared??

I really think that Mark Byers, Terry Hobbs, and David Jacoby all three did this in a satanic ritual style sacrifice. I think that they did it in the shed behind the abandoned house. I think that after the search was called off that night that they dumped the bodies in the woods at the discovery site where they could be found the next day. I think this, because Hobbs and Jacoby left their hair behind, and Mark Byers stated, out of the blue, that when he went back to the shed to look for the boys, that the shed had been cleaned up and all of the paper was gone. Hobbs was seen with the three little boys at 6:30 that evening on the sidewalk calling to the boys to come to his house. And later stated that he had not seen them at all that day. He lied. He also spent the next day or two scrubbing his house from ceiling to floor. Byers also tried many times to get the little boys, who said that Byers killed his friends, mother to let him talk to him. She would not let him near her son. He was seen stalking her and her son through her window at her home desperate to talk to Aaron.

Byers is a vicious animal. He has always been an evil person. I knew him way back in the 70"s from Jonesboro, Ar. He broke into my apartment and stole all of my money once. He stole my purse another time, and he rammed a shotgun through my door and he and his girlfriend came in and tried to kill me. They stopped and ran when my boyfriend came out of the bathroom and surprised them. He did this because I accidentally told his girlfriend he was out with another girl the night before. He is a dangerous and violent person. Always has been, and always will be. He was living in Millington, Tn. according to an article I read in the Memphis Flyer. I recently read something on topix, about a month or so ago that said that he had moved back to West Memphis, but am not sure about that. He made a statement in the Memphis Flyer article, that there would be no Paradise Lost without him. That, to me, was an indirect admission of guilt. I believe that Byers wife knew that he killed the boys, and was going to tell on him when she mysteriously died.

I believe if you can find and talk to the little boy named Aaron's mother, that you would be able to get a wealth of information from her about Mark Byers. She said that Melissa Byers had contacted her one or two days before she died. I believe she told her that she knew Mark killed the boys. I definitely think you are on the right track in suspecting Byers as the killer, but I also believe that Hobbs and Jacoby were involved also. If the West Memphis 3 were involved, then I think that they were followers of Byers and were only there for the benefits of the satanic ritual. I do believe that they took the fall for Byers. I think that Byers was seeking fame and fortune from the promised rewards of the satanic ritual and has aquired just that.

Good Luck with your investigation, I really hope that this botched up case can be unraveled soon.

My opinion,
All that is on par with other information I have on Mark Byers. He is not the person many people think he is. Anyone who knows or has known him personally knows better. Especially those who have been hurt by him. Please send me an email. I'd like to talk. westmemphiscase @ hotmail dot com

Didn't I read,
Mark dropped his stepson off at court for 4pm. He then left, saying he needed to pick his wife Melissa up from her job in Memphis. He has said that he did not see his stepson, Chris, before 5:30 (when he whipped him) but other evidence contradicts this, including a statement made by his best friend at the time Andy Taylor. Taylor said Byers whipped Chris because he didn't come right home from school. Byers said he whipped Chris because he found him riding his skateboard in the middle of 14th street around 5:30. So as you can see he was not in court at this time.

Someone reported overhearing Byers say he was going to ground Chris for breaking out a window and taking food from the house. This was at the courthouse when he picked up Ryan around 6pm. Mark Byers was angry at his stepson and once he returned from court he would have one more reason to be upset: his son had again taken off from the house.

Chris told people he was running away that day because his father hurt him. Mark Byers went around the neighborhood looking for Chris and I believe, based on what witnesses have said, that he did find out where Chris had gone.

Mark Byers does not have an alibi for all of the hours of May 5th. Between 6:30 and 7:30pm no one other than Byers can account for where he was. By 7:30pm he was seen driving around with his wife and stepson. He again disappears from view between 9 and approximately 10pm. He was said to be searching the Robinhood woods without a flashlight. A police officer encountered him there alone at about 10pm.

Between about 11 and midnight he says he was with his stepson. His stepson does not agree this happened. That is one more hour he was doing whatever on his own. From midnight to approximately 6am he claims to have a friend named Tony Hudson as his alibi. No one has ever spoken to Tony (including police) to confirm he was with Mark Byers at any time that night. His wife Melissa said she searched with him from about 1-3am, but never mentions Tony.

Mark Byers told police he concluded the search at 3am, but he told one reporter he was out searching the woods until 4:30am. Just another contradiction.

So as you can see, Mark Byers does not have an alibi for critical times on May 5th, when the boys were likely murdered. He probably stashed them somewhere around 7:00-7:15pm after murdering them, and then he came back later to scout out a better location to put them, and later moved them into the ditch.

Mark Byers is a dangerous man, but he can't threaten and attack every single person who stands up against the evil he has done and talks about it. People might think that this problem will take care of itself or God will have the final say but the truth is we all have a responsibility to do the RIGHT thing. The more information I can gather on him the better prepared I will be to prove he's done the things I know he's done. If you ask me to keep the information confidential, I will. But I need to know everything I can if I am to find other pieces of this puzzle.

I read on one of these posts, that a woman along with her father, and I think her mother, was taking her dad to work that next morning, and saw Mark Byers coming out of the woods alone wearing those overalls onto 7th St. at exactly 5:30 in the morning. She said that she didn't think that the information was important at the time, but that she now does. She was told to call the tip line, but whether or not she did I don't know. She had a Jonesboro isp address. I will try and find the post for you.

i was living in mayfair apartments at the time of the killings and my mom and i had to take my husband to work at 5 am and before we knew anything had happened the stepdad was coming out of the woods from robin hood trails wearing a pair of blue gean overalls and had something all over them. so i believe he had alot to do with it maybe he made the three boys do it or maybe he just did it his self. this i know is true because i saw him with my own eyes as did my husband and my mother.

Here is the post that I was talking about. It is on the thread titles "Does it bother anyone that the real killer is still out there" Hope this will help you in your search for information. I got a little of the info wrong, but I was trying to recall from memory.

w0w guys!..like i've previously mentioned, i was young when this happend & i've never really researched the case :) but to read all the information from above, WHY did the WMPD noooT arrest this lunatic! i've never pointed fingers at the WM3 bc there is so much controversy behind it.. but to me it sounds like Byers had these 3 guys as his followers & they ended up catching the heat for his murders! idk the other guys that Opinion mentioned, but it makes me wonder abt who i cross in my path each & everyday! so many crazy folks out there..:/ since this has been damn near 20 yrs ago, how in the world is anyone going to be able to set the record straight & convict this man?..he would probably get off with an insanity plee anyways. so sad

alot of thing get left unsaid and undone in cases like this. I personally think and thought from the time it happened that Mark Byers killed them and years later felt that his wife found out that he did it and so he killed her as well. One thing a lot of people don't know who are researching this, is what about the man covered in blood from head to toe that entered Mr. Bojangles (now Ms.Winner's) the night the boys came up missing. I was there with my mom getting something to eat and as we were waiting a man came running in coevered in blood. He ran straight into the women's bathroom to wash off, but instead covered the bathroom with blood. the manager called the police and the officer on the scene was Regina Meeks. She came in, inspected the place and left it at that. She didn't go looking for the man or anything. It was never brought up in court and nor was it ever mentioned again. I think the police wanted someone to pin it on other than the real killers and that's what they done

To the person that was saying Hobbs cleaned the house from top to bottom for 2 weeks- where did that info come from? Never heard that before just now.
And Guest Sucks thank you for finally clearing up the bloody man at the Bojangles for me. I did not know he had been identified, and glad that is done.

Actually it was on Paradise Lost where they interrogated, in court, the lady cop that went to Bojangles to investigate. She didn't even go in the building, but through the drive-thru, instead.
