One day I hope to see the headline, "Mom drowns while two year old sleeps." Pools cost thousands of dollars, locks cost a buck fifty nine, paying attention is free. C'mon, it isn't that hard to safeguard the pool!

Again? WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! So another child dies due to parents stupidity! I'm amazed yet again at the negelct in caring for babies and small children. I guess it's just never going to get better. People always think it can't happen to them and then, here you go......... Good
Grief!

An earlier report said the pool didn't have a fence. Also saw the news clip where the paramedics were consoling a huge hispanic male wearing a dirty sleeveless undershirt and unkempt hair.

The house didn't exactly look too well kept up either.

I understand that children slip away, but what was mom doing sleeping when the 2 year old wasnt secure. How did the child get out of the house ? What is wrong with parents today ? Children are dying while parents sleep or while "forgotten" in a car all day. I love my daughter too much to let her out of my sight, and she is only 3 months old. Its time for parents to start getting jail time for children dying at the lack of common sense. Then maybe they will start being more responsible !!!!

How Sad!!! 2 year olds are very curious, you have to keep and eye on them all the time. Still losing a child is a very tragic thing! Such a shame!

Yes this mother should have better protected the child from pool.
Look at how many people have pools it just a game of odds. Probably left door unlocked.
But kids always seem to find a way to get into things.
A sad story indeed. My heart goes out to this kid

Some of these posts are just disgusting! Yes, I realize that this child was not being properly cared for, but some of you should be ashamed of yourselves for these heartless remarks.

All I did was post what was in the media! Yes, this child was not being cared for properly it what I was pointing out!

I am amazed that charges don't seem to be coming for child endangerment, etc.

There was not enough information in this article for any of you self-righteous armchair moral authorities to make such statements against the mother.

You all oughta watch out-- what goes around, comes around. Karma is gonna getcha.

Darleen, these remarks are not nearly as heartless as allowing a young one to die.

There is NO excuse for neglecting your child- what this mother did is FAR worse than everyone calling her out on it. You are a perfect example of those who NEED to GO just because of how you THINK.

Idiots breed- that's why these things happen. Stop making excuses- being a parent, does NOT make one a RESPONSIBLE parent.

This too is natures way of balancing itself- people who are idiots, and capable of breeding future idiots, naturally cancel themselves out.

Oh, and by the way, this armchair moral minority has managed to raise 2 children- one in college, and the other in HS. I can tell you from experience- they are alive and well, because I HAVEN'T slept in 19 years.

It's all about the children- anyone who thinks different, will experience what this mother, and other mother's who "accidentally" kill their children do- making excuses for their bad parenting.

I prefer to be tired. It's so much easier than crying over a coffin.

Hello, from WKMG the article states that there was NO fence as reported by the police.

WFTV showed video of the large hispanic male being consoled in the yard of the shoddy conditions where the kid lived AND died!

A 2 year old can move a chair to the door and unlock deadbolts. I've watched my grandson do it.
Options:
Put your cheap padlock on his door and nail windows shut, then risk being accused of child abuse if the house catches fire and you don't get him out in time.
Install an alarm system at a cost of a few hundred dollars. Always keep all the doors and windows closed and the alarm set in case you fall asleep while the child is taking a nap.

People underestimate how slippery kids are and how difficult it is to keep them out of trouble. You're not going to fix it with a $2 lock and "paying attention".

Read some statistics too while you're all so quick to condemn about pools. Kids climb on dressers and entertainment centers all the time and get crushed when they tip over.
Kids fall down stairs, get attacked by dogs, and cut and burn themselves.
What makes you think the cure is to arrest the parents everytime an accident happens? Did you ever fall out of a tree and break an arm when you were little? Do you think your parents should have gone to jail for it?

here's another option for ya- since 2 year olds are such clever little escape artists, maybe parents should stay AWAKE and watch them!

Don't worry, Lynn, she's sleeping- can't see all the mean remarks- she had to catch up on the sleep she missed after being woken up to a drowned kid.
