I hope they build this artificial reef - it would give us locals our breaks back since all the tourists and landlocked weekend warriors and wannabe pros would surely go there. Cocoa Beach is alot closer to Orlando than my little secret spot is. I think it's incredible though what taxpayer money goes for these days! Truth is, before the ingenious meddling with our beaches by concerned politicians cowing to wealthy ocean front property owners, our waves were breaking farther out and more gnarly to ride than this artificial reef can deliver! I have ridden waves with twenty foot faces breaking a half mile out peeling from top to bottom in Sattelite Bch and Indialantic (halloween of '93) but lately all the breaks are mushy and closeouts because the sandbars are not keeping the new dredged sand close to shore - it's a different size, weight, and texture than the real thing used to be, but hey all that good natural sand that belongs there is under the condos, so we can't use that!

I believe that the idea of spending millions of dollars on so far failed experiments in New Zealand has proved -
1.artificial surfing reefs are redundant
2.non yet show value4money
3.non are near completion (if ever)
4.promoters just say "more money needed" -nice.
5.natural geomorphology cant be "copied" well
6.nature will always "overwhelm" puny men and their ideas.
7.moneyback guarentees based on perfect designs that just cant be built are useless.
8.go to new zealand and see for yourself
9.its a mass debate started by visionaries that use "we wish" by all as fodder for the "craze"
10.look at Mt manganui on google earth and see 4yourself
11.better things to spend millions on -like schools and education to realise what is real and what is not
12. pix of perfect waves are used by promoters
13.one day in how many hundred is too expensive at how many millions of $$
14. everyone i spoke to just laughed at the word artificial surfing reef in NZ - sad though cause its cost millions of bucks
15.opanake reef will cost $10m at the present rate - a reef supporter at opanake.
16.Mtreef has a condition of consent that it may have to be removed - many see it that way and believe that the beach is "screwedup" because of it
17.one of the designers just says it ok and all are happy - yep if u r trying 2 sell more.
