I think this community needs to focus on the court system in Louisville. We have a "good ole boy" system in our courts. We get our prosecutors (assistant commonwealth attorneys) mostly fresh from law school and the Commonwealth Attorney's Office is a learning ground for them. Then they become Judges (in District or Circuit Court) or go into private practice to defend the same defendants that they once prosecuted. Now they have friends (the judges) on the bench and friends that they once worked with as prosecutors and everybody compromises so that the defense attorney (who used to be a prosecutor)can look good to his client. Once someone is charged and/or indicted it takes months for their case to be disposed of. There are numerous pretrial conferences, the witnesses get tired of coming to court and eventually there are no witnesses left. Criminals look at our court system as a JOKE! Take a felony case in Circuit Court and see how many pretrial conferences take place before the case is disposed of. In the meanwhile, the criminal is still on the street commiting more crimes.
