I remember Stormin' Norman from La Vela Beach Club in Panama City Beach in 1985 as he peformed for five hours non-stop to the spring break crowd of over 3,000 of us on a hot afternoon. He came back at night and did another four hour blast with everything from Sweet Home Alabama to Jerry Lee Lewis. I will be at the Stone Pony for the show and get the new Asbury Park Then & Now CD. What a singer and piano player! Everyone should hear him. Brings back college all over again

I'm goin to the Pony Friday night and to hear if Stormin' can put on the same performance as I saw in Natchez Ms. at Mardis Gras years ago and then by accident saw him at the Surf Club this summer and thought he was the featured act when he opened up the show for Nicky Addeo. His piano is still unmatched by anyone and the voice is so powerful that I forgot it wasn't his show that night. If anyone is reading this, don't miss the Stone Pony SOAP show and hope Norman comes out to do his thing. I've only read most of his history but he truly amazing. My wife and I are hoping he will appear more because he has a rare gift that others only wish to have. God left him here for a purpose and I can't wait to get the new Asbury Park cd.

Amazing that he is back and with a new CD. Saw him as a teenager with all of his groups and shows and no one played or sang like him. None of his groups either. Many years later I visited my relatives and went to a concert in the Park in Panama City Beach. There were over 5,000 people there which they said was an all time record. His white grand piano and voice rang out and I hope to hear it again Friday at the Pony. I want the new CD because it's a life story of my past.

Finally I've found the storm again. Norman was the one that made me take piano lessons when I heard him play. I just could never sing like him and was so glad to hear he will be at the Pony for the concert. His bands were always the best and played everything from a to z with authority. He won't remember me but many of my friends remember him and are coming to the concert. If you haven't heard his piano solos and incredible voice, be there Friday night. What a surprise and treat. Thanks for the article5034

Wow is this embarrassing! I stood him up on a real date when we were teenagers and regretted it ever since. Norman was always so kind to everyone and very giving with talent no once at that time posessed. I watched his rise with thousands that followed his shows and hid in the crowd too scared to says anything to him. His voice made me cry when he sang ballads and I think I made a real bad decision. Norman, I'm sorry and will be in the audience at the Pony.

Stormin' Norman thanks for breaking the color barrier back when it wasn't possible and I can only imagine the abuse you took. Harry Ray and the Valtairs were my favorite, but you always were the man. I don't know if I'll make the show, but I will get the new Asbury Park Then and Now cd. You're a real originator, not like the plastic ones we have now. Have a great show and sing for the ones who can't be there and our friends who have passed on. God bless you.

The article was great but the SOAP show at the Pony last Friday...WOW, WOW, and more WOW. I have to say that Stormin' blew them away with the most electrifying performance of Slow Down that I've ever experienced! The whole tone of the show turned to explosive and got better when he introduced his special guest Pam Minson. Her When Will I Be Loved & Angel From Montgomery might have been the best I've ever heard. Mr. Popeye, Vinni on drums with 4 incredible guitarists was something I will never forget. The new CD is fascinating. Everyone should own it.

Thanks for letting me know about the show with your great article. Norman once again stole the show with that great back up band and the voice I never heard Pam, was dynamic and powerful. Where did she come from? It was another Stormin' discovery I guess. The show was a Norman & Pam explosion and so is Asbury Park Then & Now CD. The regular Moment of Truth were wonderful, but Stormin was an outrage. Thanks

I was lucky enough to see the SOAP concert at the Stone Pony and hear a great set from the Moment of Truth after all these years, but the shock of the evening was Stormin' Norman singing an old song I think it was called Slow Down and it was the highlight of the evening with two drummers just kickin butt and his voice was so dynamic. I watched the other in the audience turn their heads with a wow look! The female singer was also excellent and seemed like she was married to Norman because of their communication with each other. I just purchased the new Asbury Park Then & Now double CD from www.backstreets.com and it is amazing. I now understand what was so special about Norman Seldin. He really is the authentic Stormin' Norman of all times. How about an evening with Stormin Norman and his band at the Pony?
I enjoyed everyone except for the much too long Steel Mill set, but was an excellent evening. I'll look for some more concerts like that anytime!

Caught the show at the Pony for SOAP and loved the WAVA band and Moment of Truth, and wasn't big on Steel Mill but loved Vinni & Popeye backing up Stormin' and I think Pam while they were singing. I remembered Stormin' Norman when his voice rang out and that incredible solo right hand! He still is the most underated pianist and vocalist in the country. Just to hear him and Moment of Truth truly made my evening and my girlfriends also. We bought the new Asbury Park Then & Now Cd and it is truly amazing!!! I bought mine at the show, and Jenny got hers from the backstreets.com . I hope you have more events like this again soon. What a treat!

I missed the show but bought the Asbury Park Then & Now CD at the shop on the Boardwalk and it is beyond belief! Norman must be thrilled with his 40 years of work. I certainly am and will tell all of my friends about this album. It's a genuine piece of history and real talent. I can't imagine hearing and doing what Norman did at the age of 13 or 14! I won't miss the next concert if he's on it. Thanks for the article...it was great!

About the only sounds you hear in Asbury Park now are people cursing eathother out in Spanish, gun shots, and "Hey Mister, looking for a date?"

If you missed the concert at the Stone Pony with the SOAP people, you really missed something special! I now know why people were always saying things about Stormin' Norman. Some of them were not that nice and their problem was that he clearly had more talent than any of them. I could not believe his voice and piano playing at the show. Norman, get your band back out and play the big venues and bring that girl with you!
What a WOW evening...I'm ready for another one.

I just found this and had to write about the Stormin' Norman I heard at the Stone Pony with the stage full of great players. He was without a doubt the best player and singer on the entire stage! I have not heard him in the last 5-6 years, but did buy his new album Asbury Park Then & Now from Jacks Music in Red Bank. I also finally read Local Heroes..and about Normans early life. What a talent and Stone Pony...bring him back and soon. We'll be there. THANK YOU

Asbury Park Then & Now is pure history and talent!I have to say Stormin' Norman went thru some crazy times that I remember, but this is where his brilliance really shines. I was his age at 16 when his shows and groups packed everywhere he went. I've finally realized, Norman is probably one of the best pianists in the country. The music and the E Street members never sounded better and the doo wop's have now made me a fan. I got it on www.backstreets.com and it's woth every penny. These are two amazing CD's. Go Norman and get out there and perform. We'll be there and so will dozens of my friends. Thank you for a rare musical treat...lot's of luck with the new set. We hope it sells really well for you. This is the greatest set of music I've heard in probably ten years. I hope all of the radio stations in the world get to play this on the air. I didn't know a lot about Stormin' Norman, but after buying Asbury Park Then & Now, there is a reason people talk about him. It's simple, he has the real deal....talent! The songs that were written by him are outstanding and I got the priviledge of hearing him at the Stone Pony with the SOAP crew. He was a standout with Moment Of Truth. Buy the CD, I got mine from backstreets.com

I can't believe all of the talk about Stormin' Norman after these years have gone by. I heard the new cd set at a friends house and am going to go to backstreets.com and order it. I just love the history and remember him singing at Jenks Inlet every week and we all miss the voice and the sound of Steel Breeze. To anyone who hasn't heard Asbury Park Then And Now, buy it and enjoy music and history at it's best. Good luck Norman and I hope it sells for you.

I was a first timer at the SOAP concert both times and loved the event. When I heard Stormin' Norman the first time he was real good. The last one on Labor Day weekend, he was incredible and bought his new Asbury Park Then & Now cd set which is a whole new world for me. He sounds perfect with the E Street Band backing his vocals and writing and learning about Nicky Addeo, Harry Ray, and everything else was awesome! I hope to hear Norman again if he will ever go out and do some concerts. Another amazing thing was his piano work....absolutely the best!!! I want more.

I was searching around looking for Stormin' Norman or Norman Seldin and saw this and had to write. I missed the show at the Stone Pony but did read the great article in the Asbury Park Press. I bought a copy of the new double cd from backstreets.com and am telling all of my friends about it. Not just the lost recordings of the E Street members backing him and sounding great, but the history and sound of the other tracks are amazing. What a world Norman must live in.

My boyfriend and I were on the Asbury Park boardwalk and saw a shop that had photo's and great items about the town. We purchased the new 2 cd set by Stormin' Norman, Asbury Park Then & Now and it is the find of the year for us musically. We still can't believe what he wrote and produced at thirteen or fourteen. What was more shocking was how good he sounded with the E Street members backing him. We loved the article in the Press and bumped into the recording by mistake. It's a real find and Stormin' Norman where ever you are, you did some job on this album. I've learned a lot about the Valtairs, Nicky Addeo, and all of the others thanks to you and the writer of the great article. If we see your name appearing, we'll make an effort to come and hear you live. Thanks for something really special....your music!
