From a "Followers of Christ is a Cult blog:
"I was a member of the Oregon City Followers for over 20 years and I can say with 100% percent certainty that the building as a whole looks the other way when it’s members do things that society would object to. My own family was torn apart by abuse and lies. To live daily with the knowledge that the torture you are experiencing in your own home will not be stopped, that there is no one who will step in and help you and that you cannot possibly seek outside help becasue of the shame you will bring on “the church”, is overwhelming. There were those in that building who knew what was going on in my house, or at least knew something wasn’t right, yet did nothing! When the truth came out we were abandoned by our “brothers and sisters”. My family imploded while they stood by pretending it wasn’t happening. I lost everything that I thought ever meant something to me. When this is how you are raised it is nearly impossible to turn away. No matter what you know is right you also know what you will lose if you acknowledge all the wrong. The vast majority of those out there know the way they are living is wrong but are too frightened to stand up and say anything about it. They are waiting for a great savior to step up and rescue them. How many men have stepped forward but were rejected?? Has there ever been somebody bodily removed from the building for standing up and trying to say their peace?? The only thing this church fears is it’s own members! There is no love of God in that building. They have always stood on the belief that God will protect those within it’s walls if they follow the teachings of their long gone preacher. How can they still be there and not look around them and see the destruction that is coming?“He” isn’t with you anymore. You should be concerning yourselves with what you can do to live more Godly lives than what your neighbor is wearing or who they are talking to. For any member to come on here and say that they have never stood by and did nothing to stop the abuse of women and children is an out right lie! You all do it! All the “men” who hold their little meetings that women are forbiden to take part in, all the parents who have forced their children to marry as young as 14 becasue they fornicated with each other, all you who have stood by while a woman, so exhausted from days of labor and couldn’t possibly be able to think clearly, dies right along side her baby, those who have visited a young mother, too young to die, too delerious from pain to speak on her own behalf, and walk away knowing she will die and it is WRONG, those of you who have used force to keep your young adults from leaving, locking them in rooms and boarding over the windows. You will all be judged for the action or lack there of in the end. I sleep in peace every night knowing that by leaving that lie of a “church” I have given my children the future they never could have had there! I have taught them what true love means. The freedom I felt when I left that place, the peace that came over my heart that I carry with me every day, lets me know I did the right thing. While I was there I lived in confusion and fear. That is NOT religion! I hope with all my heart that the State of Oregon follows through with it’s promise to a little boy named Beau, that no child would die needlessly in that building again. The parents and all who witnessed the suffering of these 2 children should be punished. The bible tells us to obey the laws of the land. All the laws need to apply to this “church”, not just the ones they think they can live with. Do they pay taxes? Yes. Do they abide the speed limits? Yes. Do they pay for fishing and hunting licenses? Yes. Do they go out and kill some random stranger? NO!! They only kill their women and children when they are too weak or too young to speak for themselves. We need to speak for them by showing these people that they are NOT above EVERY law of the land!!"

I was a member of The Followers of Christ Church as well, and I can completely relate to EVERYTHING in your post. I lost my entire family when I left the church. They are so concerned with what other church members will say about them, that they will not even speak to their own family members who leave the church. I am amazed that so many perfectly sane adults can be so brainwashed! I know a lot of good people from that church, but they do not have the courage to stand up for what is right, for fear that their family will reject them (as mine and many others have done). I also hope that the state of Oregon will enforce the laws to protect the children... but sadly, I don't really think it will make any difference. We are talking about people who are so brainwashed and so hell-bent on keeping things the way that they have always been, that they will gladly go to prison rather than compromise their beliefs. I think that the only way the authorities would be able to actually stop children from dying, would be to put 24-hour surveillance on every Follower of Christ home. Not just the homes with children, because the parents would just take the kids to their Grandparents house if they got sick. It has to be EVERY house! I am realistic enough to know that this will never happen, but trust me... IT IS THE ONLY WAY THAT THESE CHILDREN WILL STOP DYING! And that is the truth, sorry if it hurts!

I recently ended a relationship with someone from the FCC. I was appaled to see the hurt and the devestation that this individual carried with him. The church used guilt and fear to brainwash him. He watched his young uncle and his young grandmother die of curable diseases and afflictions. FCC members are murderes plain and simple. It amazes me that in this day and age things like this still occur. I am looking to talk more about this and find out more about what I can do to help those who are interested in leaving this cult.

My husband was raised in the FCC. I was not, I was "of the world" and after seven years of marriage, and many many fights, hours of study, and prayer, by the grace of God, his eyes were opened to the truth, he accepted it, and was converted and saved. We have attend a Baptist church for the past 14 years but our heart still breaks when we witness his family continue to be indoctrinated in that belief system. They have basically rejected us and our children and think that we have no hope of salvation because we "left the faith." Storm, I would love to read a copy of the your book when your through writing.

Although never a member of the church in question, I was member of another church that became a cult. In leaving, my wife and I spent the next 17 years trying to come to peace with what had happened and that we truly had done God's will in leaving. We had to leave ALL organized churches behind to get here, however, for they are ALL cults to one degree or another.
Having said that, no government official who is faithful to the Constitution would EVER bring criminal or civil charges against ANYONE in this church for what they have done - or are doing. To do so is infringement of the first 2 clauses of the First Amendment
1: It is imposing State-approved religion upon them.
2: It is denying them teh fullexpression of their religion.
ANY laws against these 2 portions of Amendment One being upheld in their lives is egregious and should concern all, for the government that takes away the very Rights that our governemnt wa established by the Founders to UPHOLD (Declaration of Independence) in cases where may agree with their actins will soon come to take away OUR Rights in the same manner - and who will stand for us in that day?
Bad religion is a fact of life - but State-sanctioned religion is no different than what my Brethren in Christ had to endure in the Soviet Union and still are enduring in Red China. IT CANNOT BE ALLOWED HERE!
And, in the end, we will ALL stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ. NO ONE is getting away with ANYTHING! Jesus can't be fooled, bribed or coerced.(My favorite guy!)

I would like to ask why if you have left the Church and moved on with such better and happy lives, you can't move on. You seem hell bent to bash the Church, this sound like extreme bitterness! Just move on and live your life.

Well, to put it bluntly, it is because they still actively kill women and children by teaching and enforcing through coercion, the exclusion of medical care. That should make anyone upset.

Not true. The first amendment protects belief not actions.

The government does not promote or deny anyone the right to any belief. These people are being prosecuting because they are denying children basic medical care in life threatening situations.

You are free to BELIEVE that you should throw you child into the volcano to please God, but you are not free to do it.

Thank you thank you thank you. My Grandmother has just passed on, for several days after she had fallen down a flight of stairs at he daughter's home she endured pain. She broke her hip, and as a result of the fall had a perforated colon. He piece of crap daughter (my aunt) refused to take her for medical care. Meanwhile the contents of her bowel and the infection that resulted circulated her bogy. Apparently that is one of the conditions to which prayer will help. Really? By the grace of God, my other aunt (ex-member of the church) checked in on her and she managed to get her to a hospital. Many elderly people die of broken hips, but they do not needlessly endure torture before their passing. The "loving" daughter of course intervened at any request or demand by medical staff to treat her with pain killers. After several nights passed her actual loving daughter managed to by pass her sister and get her treatment started. She did of course pass on but in her last moments she was able to speak she asked to have her will and testament changed to the actual loving daughter's name. Unfortunately, there was not enough time to fill out any paperwork before she died. It was a miracle that she had peace in the end and that is a bit of satisfaction to me. The will is not that important to me either, not sure of my aunt's opinions. I am absolutely infuriated that this is how the church treats it's eldest members. If it was not for the sense and reason of my husband, I would be in Oregon City today standing on my aunt's doorstep. I will settle with a honest conversation with her over the phone. I have already lost my father to suicide, due to the actions of this church and most of my extended family on my father's side would not give me the time of day. But when I heard of the way by Grandmother was treated by her own flesh and blood I literally felt sick and then enraged. How the hell can we stop these people?

I was a member and I left after the 15 month old girl died. My own wife died in my arms, after calling for prayers.(their 911 call). Upon leaving I lost my whole family including my teenage child to shunning. M child is currently married at 17 years old and I have not even met my in-law. NOT BE BITTER!! I try very hard to not be bitter, but it can be hard!!I do have a better life, but if I could destroy that cult without destroying my own family I would! I was a member for 36 years! I was born into it. I have hope that they might come around and see how wrong they are. If you haven't lived through that type of shunning you have NO idea what it feels like. To those who think it is easy to just get on with our lives, you haven't got a clue!!
