My family bought a farm near Ezel, Ky. I was wondering if anybody has ever found any Morel mushrooms in or around this area. Just looking to take a few kids out mushroom hunting.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes, Morels are in this area. Still about a month early though. They usually emerge a couple weeks after two-leaf, and that isn't up yet.

Wow. The 13th is early. Been a little colder this year so I'm hoping to maybe look this weekend.

Do you all typically find them on ridge tops, middle or lower section of hills? Never hunted anywhere but flat ground so this will be all new to me.

Thanks for the response!

The black ones are on the ridge.sometimes you will find white ones.start from top then just keep going down hill after the black one's are gone then the white ones come up.when u pick them try to pinch them off by the roots leaving the roots in the ground.i love this time of year its like being young again and hunting easter eggs....lol good luck and happy hunting.

Make sure you put them in a bag with holes in it, like an onion bag or potato bag. As you travel through the woods, this allows the spores to fall to the ground and make more for next year.
