that's one option, my preference would be to leave things exactly how they have been for the last 30 years. We have the best Athletic Program in the State, why make changes......we would be better off letting the other depts put in their own vending machines, put a few near the music rooms, art rooms etc......I trust the people we have teaching and coaching our kids, you should try it.
is there an agency that rates the athletic programs of the high schools in new york state ? i know and have seen the academic performance results, not aware that they have devised comparision and measurement standards for extra curricular activities. where would i find this comparision data showing West Islip as the best

It cannot continue the way it is, that ship has sailed, the monies have to go through he business office. The success of the athletic department is not because of vending machines, it is because of the hard work of the kids, coaches, parents, and the superior youth programs. The athletic dept. will continue to be successful. My views have nothing to do with trust.

DOG makes more sense then anyone on this board.Need your Help and Alumni, let the AD do his job. It is a matter of trust. Everyone is not a crook. We do have the best Sports program on Long Island. Look at both the individuals (going to the best colleges in the US) and the success of our teams,

nobody said they were crooks. all agree we have successful sports programs and that will continue regardless of vending revenue. Its an issue of munincpal money and public funds, and the appropriate LEGAL way it needs to bwe spent and accounted for.

all for letting AD do his/her job, as long as it is within the guidelines that all department heads must adhere to, and monitored by a set of checks and balances with full accountability to their superior. cannot have a situation where a small group of individuals operate in a vacuum without being monitored, or reporting their activities to the superintendent and board. this is as much for for their protection as it is for the community.

BTW did anyone find out the answer to this question

is there an agency that rates the athletic programs of the high schools in new york state ? i know and have seen the academic performance results, not aware that they have devised comparision and measurement standards for extra curricular activities. where would i find this comparision data showing West Islip as the best

I have a question. A board member allegedly tells a coach that he will no longer support the Athletic Dept due to what he considers a slight to one of his family members.....6 months later he is leading the charge to take the keys to the vending machines away from the Coaches Association, and is quoted in Newsday in a way that insinuates that the coaches are stealing money......why is this guy still on the board? Don't Board Members have some type of oath that they sign regarding personal agendas?
This is a good question.

It appears the coaches will not be getting their key's back anytime soon !!

The audit process is now complete, and the board has received the report as well as a
presentation describing the vending machine operation and suggested procedures for correcting
any financial control weaknesses as they pertain to contracts of this nature. While the report
accounts for the proceeds accumulated during the audit period by outlining the expenditures
made by the Coaches Association on behalf of the school district and athletic operations, it is
clear that the processes by which the expenditures were made were not in accordance with local
law.

Having included the districtís attorney, Guercio & Guercio LLP, in the process, the board asked
Guercio & Guercio to offer a legal opinion as to how we should proceed in regard to the misuse
of public funds. Our attorney has advised us that as public officers and trustees, we are required
to forward the report to the District Attorney and State Comptroller.
