Why the heck does the Fire Department get a free pass??? Yes they should be commended for the work they do, but that doesn't give them the right to allow unaccountability of the community's funds! Taking time off and then still getting paid for it as unused time at the end of the year, WHAT??? And not accounting properly for cash received and for expenditures, WHAT??? And the community is paying for dinners for the school board and their community buddies, WHAT THE????

Why would the community's fire department funds be used to provide almost 200 dollar dinners for our school board and LL heads??? If they want to fill their fat faces with food then they should pay for it and the fire department would collect money rather than burn it away!

Where the heck is accountability in West Islip???? We are crumbling away like Lindenhurst and Copiague which is where this crap came from in the first place!!!

We know which non-firefighters got the free dinners from the taxpayers. Disgusting! Instead of donating to the fire department they have the fire department pay for their dinners. Well to back up what we already know, I'm going through the Freedom of Information Act to get the names of the taxpayer freeloaders. Then I will post their names here for all to see.

Please do. You will be disappointed to find that you will NOT see my name, Steve Gellar's name or any other name of currently sitting West Islip Board of Education members. For future reference, if you would like to ask me ANY questions regarding the function and role of the school board, please feel free to contact me directly. My contact info is available via the school district website.

Queen Larosa please do tell. Who was freeloading off these dinners? What else is the school board sticking their hands into? How are the little League baseball and Chamber investigations going? It must be nice to know so much, please do share. We are listening.

I see you are still making it up as you go along........there are no investigations. You are delusional. I guess you think if you say it enough, it will become true. You and your kind have never provided a shred of evidence with regards to your allegations about any organization in this town. Your actions show just how irresponsible and desperate you are for attention. I feel sorry for your kids........what they must be learning from you. The fact that the Fire Department has been audited and "shows no illegal activities or abuses" it's still not good enough. And yet again, you and your kind are too busy to volunteer in the Fire Department or anywhere else. Takes real courage to stand up anonymously and trash talk about folks and the organizations they support. You are pathetic in your quest to discredit anyone and everyone that isn't you. Please, do us all a favor and move to a different town and go complain and trash talk their. You talk about folks who came from Lindenhurst and Copiague being trash? As far as I'm concerned, those folks have more heart and more decency in their person that you and your kind could ever possess. Never let it be said, that you don't know exactly where you stand when dealing with someone from either Lindenhurst or Copiague. They do not need to post nonsense annonymously..........they simply tell you to your face......clearly something you are incapable of doing because you have absolutely no character, ethics or anything of real importance to say that can be proven.

Please note the main message of the article, that the state audit found no illegal activities or abuses in the West Islip Fire District. There were RECOMMENDATIONS made as to internal controls. You show outrageous indignation over a few facts noted in a watered down article specific to one volunteer fire department in Suffolk County. It is unfair to base any intelligent opinions of WIFD district operations and spending practices on this singular Newsday article (or for that matter, based on any and all other Suffolk County VOLUNTEER fire and/or EMS operations articles published in Newsday).
Please note, extending invitations to local government officials who have shown immeasurable support to the department itself; or to volunteer fire and EMS organizations on a whole is not only a personal gesture of appreciation and respect, but it also fosters and renews the sense of connection and communication that is gained only through personal contact - which when met, is priceless. The same is said for invitations to local districts and agencies which have shared in mutual aid practices (outside department agencies lending assistance at a moments notice in emergencies). I could go on and on, but let me just leave it at this - until you have experienced firsthand the joys and difficulties as member, line officer, Department Chief and Commissioner (or their equivalents) of a volunteer fire/rescue/EMS organization, it is beyond impossible to make reasonable credible assumptions as to the mismanagement of funds within these agencies.
As for the school official who so adamantly decried attending any department dinner, it is too bad you are looking at it as a waste of funds instead of a wasted opportunity, as you could have attended and gotten to know some of the department members who coincidently are also your neighbors. Afterwards you could have sent in a card with some sort of personal acknowledgment and description of yourself with the added note that while you donít have $200, please accept your donation of $100 (or $50, or $25 for that matter) as a token of your appreciation. You see, most departments take a moment towards the end of each department meeting to read aloud the cards & letters received from the public thanking them for their services, for while volunteers donít live for a thank-you, a well written card of appreciation will do wonders for rekindling a volunteerís love for what they do. As for a card from yourself, you have now just reminded those members who you met at the dinner of who you are, and put your name in the heads of those you didnít get to meet Ė your words of acknowledgment being read aloud to the department.

Well written and in 100% agreement. Let me just clarify for you, that my posting indicating that it was not me who attended the fire department dinner was not written to suggest that there is anything wrong with the Department inviting guests to their function. However, in re-reading my post, I can see how it could be interpreted that way. I am in fact a tremendous supporter of the volunteer Fire Department, know many members personally, and contribute annually to the department. I have never been invited to a department dinner, and therefore sought to correct the original poster, who by the way has more of a grudge against the West Islip Little League and the School Board. He was just using the article to bash others. The Men and Woman of the WIFD are valuable members of the community and the community supports them.

Annmarie you are pathetic. Everything you do in this town is done to either help your political aspirations or help your personal business. You really want to help this community then stop asking for everyone else's money then go away and take your fake personality and your fat ego with you.

And Thank You West Islip Fire Department Volunteers. Your time and dedication is greatly appreciated. You are amazing people and the community has nothing but the highest respect for you. You will never be confused with the few losers who think they run the community.

COWARD! One could see how instrumental you are in the community. Why, it must take a tremendous amount of intelligence and intellectual capital to post the Bull Sh*t that you and your friends post in various forums on this website.

Regardless of whether she would "get it" or not is irrelevant. If you truly have something intelligent to say to her or if it's not that "intelligent" but you feel the need to say it anyway, then address her in person. Her contact information is on the District Website.

And while you and your 3 friends believe that she doesn't have anything to contribute to the community, the rest of this town disagreed as she won her seat for the second time on the Board Of Education. So, for the next three years, she is the VP of the Board of Education. Yes, I know, hard to swallow for someone of your limited intellectual capability.

That being said, one last note: Since you do not know her, you couldn't possibly know if she has "political aspirations" or not. So once again, please stop making it up as you go along, fabricating stories that suite your needs to make whatever agenda you have more pallitable to the masses.

Enjoy your vacation. When you get back, please stay under whatever rock you call home and stop your nonsense.

You are right Watchman, they are an embarrassment to the community. The message of disapproval has been presented to their faces many times yet they are blinded by their fat egos. Better they are not removed so that they can keep digging the holes they put themselves in.
