Not really the teacher's fault although sending home assignments and then complaining that kids work together on them is a problem.

If you don't want assigments to be worked on together then don't send them home. That was the only problem with the teacher.

Who called the media? Who made a media circus? Someone did and that person is the worst person in all of this stupid mess. Making an issue out of nothing and causing kids and families pain and misery.

School dealt with it. Parents dealt with it. Yet still people on here dragging kids through the mud. Whose fault is that?

Enough already. It is a NON ISSUE. Focus on something else already and let these kids finish their punishment and live their lives in peace. Are they not allowed to make a mistake in their lives EVER? Must be hard being so perfect that you can judge everyone else. Enough already. Live and learn.

Very sad.:( the teachers indefinitely bullied the kids after this situation. One told my son that he "disgusted her" and she "has no respect for him". That was one of MANY comments. Pls don't assume you know all the facts. My child just got his FIRST regents packet Friday (from a sub at that) for a regents he's supposed to take on Tuesday. Regardless, my child will score in top 95% regardless of what you think of him and this will be behind him.
I don't think a teacher is bully if they tell a student that's been caught cheating they're disgusted and have no respect for the student. Respect is earned. If there was a situation with students not being taught b/c of the teacher being absent a lot the parents should have spoken up before June. Your son sounds like an excellent student who made an error in judgment. This too shall pass. Your son's hard work will earn him back the respect he deserves and the lesson learned will make him stronger. I wish the best for your son.

I respect your opinion, but I choose to disagree. It is not a teachers right to speak that way to a child. The information that was shared was in February. This came out late May. At that point my son still hated his teachers teaching style but was still earning a high 95% GPA due to his ability to self teach.
Again, I will not use the word "cheat" and if it were your child and you knew ALL of the details you'd understand my POV. It's over, behind us and I am 100% sure my son will still be top of his class regardless of this nightmare.

I have also told him never to help another child EVER again.(Sad world we live in hu?) Lastly just for the record, he also apologized to his teacher out of respect.

You are correct that I don't know all the details. It sounds as if your son's compassion to help other students understand a subject which he has mastered turned into the other kids just copying his answers.I don't doubt your son had only the best intention of helping his classmates. While the other students and parents involved chose to point fingers at teachers, principals, administrators and other parents, your son chose to apologize to his teacher out of respect and that shows above all else, you did an outstanding job of raising a man.
