Bravo, bravo. Well said.
I too feel that when anyone says "everybody thinks so", "the whole town thinks" they so completely lack confidence in themselves and their own opinion that need to validate themselves by grouping "everybody" in with their opinion. The constant name calling and insults to anyone with a difference of opinion only adds further proof of one's feeling of inferiority.
I just can't understand how anybody would frown upon what WE SHOULD ALL already know about OPEN MEETINGS LAWS.

The idea that this man was in any way sneaky is bizarre, and if these comments are the opinion of "seasoned" attendees, then it's even more bizarre and unfounded.

The parking lots during drop off and pick up, are INSANE! They are congested and even dangerous actually. I don't blame the parents, they have to make due with the crappy circumstances, but keep giving these admin. increases. Makes a lot of sense!

WI School Board asks many to give; gives raises to some
Last year, as West Islip Schools faced declining enrollment and fiscal problems, the residents were asked to endure the difficult and traumatic experience of having to close two elementary schools in the interest of putting the district on a sounder financial footing. Additionally, West Islip School teachers were asked and agreed to a financial concession, the second concession teachers made in the past three years—all in an effort to bring the district on a sounder financial footing.
Three weeks ago, the school board, in what we believe was a usurious move, approved pay increases for Central Office administrators.
Superintendent of Schools Richard Simon, who was earning $215,000 a year when he was hired, and last year got a two-year contract extension with the caveat that he would not get any increase, was given a threepercent pay raise by the board. That was followed by a three- percent increase for the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and the superintendent for business. Two stipends were also added at an additional $14,000 a clip.
No one disputes that the cost of these salary increases will be paid for with savings achieved from other areas such as consolidation, reduced personnel¬— and teacher givebacks. And we don’t dispute that, in many cases, these administrators have had to take on some added responsibilities. But taking on more responsibilities, working harder and being forced to do more with less are things that every public employee understands as essential in this economic environment. The district’s principals, for example, are assuming additional responsibilities with higher enrollments in their buildings. And, more significantly, doing more is something that every working Joe in West Islip, who is responsible to pay for these increases, understands as well.
The school board is made up of volunteers from the community who, we believe, have the best interests of the community at heart. That being said, their decision to award these additional financial benefits at this time is absolutely unconscionable.
The board used poor judgment and has, in our opinion, done even greater damage: it has dried up some of the well of good will in the community, and will likely find it very difficult to draw from it again if and when faced with similar problems.

WISD brings case to Islip planners to retain zoning jurisdiction over Kirdahy and Westbrook
District raises $$ by leasing out buildings to private businesses

by Carolyn James

Following a lengthy hearing, the Islip Town Planning Board reserved decision on the question of whether the Town has jurisdiction over zoning and other issues related to the leasing of two West Islip School buildings, or the district retains its autonomous role under State Education law and legal precedent.
Thomas Volz, who represented West Islip at the hearing, explained that the district moved forward with plans to lease out the buildings but was limited in how far it could go since the question of zoning and jurisdiction had not been finalized, despite having had several meetings with the Town and its attorney. Once the planning board reviews the testimony and issues, it will make a recommendation to the Town Board, which will then decide the question
Residents, many of whom were confused about what the hearing was about, raised a number of concerns. Some asked for a clarification of the question that was before the board while others urged planners to maintain control over issues such as traffic that have an impact on the quality of life. Others wanted to discuss issues that, according to Chairman Schettino, more appropriately should be addressed with the school board at a school board meeting. Despite that, he added that he was giving speakers some latitude on the issues since many people attended the meeting and had concerns.

Some may know I am outside my area of expertise but I will make the general observation that it is psychologically frightening when a certain poster on this board posts under an assumed name and then self aggrandizes their real name. As if we didn't know.
