last time I drove through Islip to score a little pot, I never seen so many Kool-Aid drink, Nappy Hair, Pants on the ground loser welfare trash in my life.
I felt like I was in a cotton field but no cotton.

your childish attempt to divert public attention from this compelling subject of education money priorites and clever tatics to fool the public to maintain statis quo is wrong and it will not work. West Islip doesn't deserve it.
#23 Feb 5, 2011
There are so many local-in-house employees in the schools that it is no wonder we are over-paying for a lack of skill. There are many real good teachers in West Islip but even the best don't deserve what they are getting. High salaries for basically part-time jobs. Plus dont' get me started on the gym teachers or worse the administrators. Cut them off and do more with less. I am sure we can cut our school tax in half, force the cuts we have to make, and prosper as we do more with less!!!
#24 Feb 5, 2011
West Islip teachers gave money back in 2009-2010 and no raises in 2010-2011.
#25 Feb 6, 2011
Not enough. After two decades of excessive raises and benefits they are still so far ahead of what is fair. With the time they put in, they should take a 35% pay cut and still be grateful. Plus get rid of the duplicative admin jobs and get volunteer gym teachers. If we succeed in cutting school taxes by 40% we are still a high tax area. Stop the nonsense and waste and make the cuts now before it is way too late!!!
#26 Feb 6, 2011
thank god people like you just sit typing behind a computer and dont actually go out in public spewing this nonsense. volunteer gym teachers? really? aahhh... stupid. Our teachers shouldnt make a living?? what?? kids shouldnt be taught by dedicated professionals? professionals required to earn a master degree to work in new york? and how are you cutting 40% out of the budget? do you even know what the budget looks like? people like you would never actually stand up at a public meeting and suggest this crap. Id pay more taxes just to see you actually go to a budget meeting and say this crap.

7 hours a day is NOT part time!
#30 Feb 8, 2011
With the whole summer off, weekends all year off, holidays all over the place, 3 more 10-day vacations and then only 7 hours a day with breaks. Damn, that is part-time my friend!

Teachers can make quite a nice living, and I feel bad
just commenting on it because I feel they do earn their
money and they have spent a lot on an education to get to that pay
level. The answer isn't in the teachers salaries, it's the
waste in spending, un-necessary programs, useless administration
positions that keep cropping up. These administrative
jobs are serving only to duplicate the ones already there.
We spend a fortune om private contracts too and in any given
month the districts are wasting money on stupid legal bull shit.
Public schools were never supposed to become big corporations.
The pupil was the focus along with the staff dedicated to the
education of the student. Now, it's big business and the
Superintendents are being paid like some corporate big shot.
Breaking down the spending that goes on in these districts
takes a lot of honesty and a keen eye for bull shit talkers.
Having the same old crusty bread on the school board is like
suicide as well, the need to cover up, to protect their base
by doing constant damage control must be stressful, could even
make you FAT! Obviously from the looks of things...
Don't allow good teachers, and worker bees to get laid off,
look to the big shots sitting in their administrative offices
to make your cuts, and force the head honcho to
earn his money by actually working, and make him take a pay cut.
You want to make up to almost 300,000.00 a year, WORK!
Don't hire Asst. Super's so you can break down your job and
pass the buck to someone else and then pay them half your salary.
Besides the school districts, look at the townships too.

Does anyone know what happened at the Thursdays board meeting? Went on PATCH but no report. Was is cancelled?
#33 Feb 12, 2011
EXCELLENT POST!!! Although I stand by teacher salary cuts, every other point you make is right on the mark and must be addressed.
#34 Feb 12, 2011
Yes, I know how you can say that about cuts,
but lets start first and foremost with
other wasteful positions, and also we need to
seriously question how wise it was to start
IB in West Islip??? We have AP courses in WI
and those courses are rigorous. Colleges are not
even recognizing IB at this point. As an American
I see a watering down of our own national identity
when it comes to what we teach in our public schools. Do we really need global thinkers or do
we need local thinkers? If you take a real look
at our public schools, it's true that one can
make a connection to the liberal leaning political
left policies. There is a whole bunch of PC crap
handed to our kids, the future of this nation,
and progressive libs are muddying the moral waters
parents infuse their children with at home.
Very confusing indeed. We don't need these left
leaning libs as our teachers and administrators.
Public school as a social system of education
was not intended to go this far. I could write a

Teachers making 45-50K with young families deserve a salary cut? A distinction needs to be made between those $120K union teacher heads and admin team mates who throw their "brothers and sisters" overboard and those who have not become entrenched. I wish the union boss did not have the ability to repress the voices of those at the bottom with the threat of not bringing them back when enough teachers retire with their "behind closed negotiated pensions".Junion teacher repression, silent contract sessions, and public ignorance. The magic formula to your wallet.
#36 Feb 13, 2011
Just the idea that we have to discuss Educators becoming
entrenched at all, sucks! These administrators and some
teachers view the public dole as an undiminishable source of
wealth for themselves. It's sickening.
So what to do to stop it? It takes some real calzones.
The system is so far out of control already, but it has to
start somewhere. Cuomo has to reign in those who feast on
the pubic teet. I don't want to have teachers cut, not right
now. I want Administrative positions cut. I mean, how many
Superintendents do districts really need? Take the Superintendent
for curriculum (there are two or three) as an example, just wondering, once the curriculum
is set for the year, what else does this position handle?
How come librarians can make over $100,000.00 a year as well?
I want to know why the school nurses don't make a lot?
They should be making more than librarians!
#37 Feb 13, 2011
What exactly is "dr" parvey contribute? Do we really need this position in the admin?
#38 Feb 14, 2011
This is why people need to show up at the budget hearings, from what I have heard the new Super is not beholden to anyone in the District Office and his first budget will present a series of cuts across the board and not just teachers, sports, and services for our students, at least that is what he mentioned at the BOE meeting on Thursday.
Anyone have any comments on other districts unions forgoing any raises and or step increases? Anyone think that the unions in WI would go for that? Not sure of the exact number but I believe it would be in the 1.5 – 2 million dollar range of savings for the district which may not be enough to cover all of the proposed cuts from the Governor but it would be a nice start.
