LOL - The building is still there but it is a runned down convienence store. The beer distributor is still there on 5th Avenue but the whole town is a mess. Put it this way, Spanish has become the primary language. Everything is in Spanish and most people are from El Salvador.
I grew up in Bay Shore and also went to Brentwood High School...Farmer's Market; John's Bargain Store; Grant's the Regent Theatre (before it was X rated), the Brentwood theatre. And yes, everything has deteriorated. Bot towns are now slums, the "national" language is spanish, and most people are from South America or the Middle East. Interesting...my father was born in Italy; he learned english! It looks as though the area had been invaded by a plague of locusts. A nuclear weapon would have been kinder.

I hope this isn't another fine example of the current Brentwood educational system? I graduated in 1980 and we know how to write and spell, unlike todays students. As far as the cultural make up of my hometown, it has gotten to the point where I would never want to live there again. The latinos that have moved in have destroyed the make up of the town and have created a place where there were once beautiful homes, now are nothing but run down, dirty and filled with multiple families. The gang make up of the town is just an excuse for you people coming and making a mess out of a place that was once serene. Why don't you all go back to where you came from and continue to destroy your own country and leave ours alone. If you want to come here, learn the language and live within the new culture that you have chosen, don't just shove yours down our throats and expect us to welcome you with open arms, and give you hand outs because you don't want to work, and expect handouts. You drive illegally, without license or insurance, driving up the rates of those that drive legally, when you have accidents, you run like cowards not even stopping to find out if someone had been injured. My family came from other countries and learned the language and brought up their children as Americans nad were proud to do so. Why can't you do the same???

Are you guys stupid ? We got tha gangs dat are ruining this town jus cus you wear blue, red or yellow dis town is nice I just hate all you people talkin bad bout us !not everything stays tha change so keep that in mind.

Seems sort of sad...only lived there for 4 yrs, in the late 60's, but always feel some fondness for Brentwood. It was my parents 1st purchased home...they loved it, and still speak of it from time to time. Moved because my dad got tired of the LIE, even back then. Always wondered what it would be like to grow up there...lived on Dekalb Ave, which I think is considered North Brentwood? Was a great block...still can recall a few things about some neighbors and such, even though I was 6 when we moved away. Drove past the old house just last week, because my son had a soccer game in the area...still looks the same...even the same shingles and colors...the awning my dad put up in the backyard is still there...sad to hear that the town did not grow old, gracefully.

I also went to Loretta Park, South Jr High and Ross High School - only finished 10th grade!!! My parents moved us in 1977 and I graduated in '79 from a school in North Texas. Do you remember the Tony the Good Humor Man? I lived off Broadway on Tabor St. I miss the beach, every weekend at Jones Beach as a kid and when I finally got some freedom took the ferry over to Fire Island. Oh man so many memories!

Memories of Brentwood: Dairy Barn, Twin Pines and "the portables", East Jr. High, The great 4th of July BBQs, Going to Islip Speedway, Entenmanns, Ringolevio, "the horsetrack" (now theres a very obscure reference ;-) 1964 - 1973 is when we lived there. Adams Avenue. I would have graduated class of '78. Anybody heard from Jimmy Boyd? My neighbor on Pine Street circa 1970...
