A year after a Presidents Day weekend stabbing in Gainesville between a talent manager and a reality TV producer, the case has moved little.

The two men, Dustin Gold, 32, charged with felony assault in the stabbing, and Marcus Fox, 38, the victim, were in town for a Presidents Day promotional event at Carriage Kia, Nissan and Mitsubishi on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville, an event the dealership is holding again this weekend.

Gold manages actors, impressionists, comics, entertainers and writers. Fox is known for work on shows including "The Osbournes," "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica" and "Hardcore Pawn."

Gold, a Connecticut resident, was released from jail last March after making a $50,000 bond in the case.

District Attorney Lee Darragh said he could not elaborate on a pending case, but that it will most likely see a courtroom soon.

"I do anticipate that this matter will be heard by a grand jury before the end of March of this year," he said.

At his hearing last March, Judge Tracy Loggins said Gold had a "decent case" for self-defense.

Gold’s attorney, Mike Jacobs of Atlanta, could not be reached for comment Friday.

Testimony at that March hearing painted a picture of a drunken argument that got out of hand on Feb. 18, 2012.

Hall County Investigator Mark Mitchell testified that, after consuming alcohol, Fox and a Bill Clinton impersonator named Tim Watters got into an "aggressively verbal" argument in the pool room of a rented house on Hulsey Drive.

Some witnesses, including Gold, told Mitchell that Fox pushed Watters down in the argument, though Fox denied the allegations, Mitchell said.

Gold stepped in to break up the fight, according to the investigator.

At some point after that, Mitchell testified, Fox held Gold down on the pool table and licked his face. Gold also told investigators that Fox touched him inappropriately. Fox, on the other hand, told investigators "he was just having a little fun."

Gold then picked up a ball from the pool table, threw it at Fox, hitting him in the chest, Mitchell testified.

Gold then ran outside, falling down an embankment and injuring his knee. Gold’s attorney questioned whether Gold was being chased by Fox, but the investigator could not confirm that detail.

Later Gold got back in the house and as he and a woman heard Fox coming into the room, Gold told the investigator that he put a steak knife in his front right pocket.

Witnesses had different versions of the events that ensued, but the investigator testified that Fox approached Gold as if he were going to choke him.

Gold told investigators that Fox did put his hands around his neck. Fox said he never got a chance, according to the investigator.

The two men fell to the floor, with Fox on top, and Gold used the steak knife to stab Fox in the stomach, Mitchell said.

Fox had to undergo extensive surgery to repair the roughly 2- to 3-inch stab wound, Mitchell said.

An employee with carriage who asked not to be identified said, though the dealership is hosting the same type of sale event this holiday, it is not using the same talent company. The event, which is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, includes Reggie Brown, a nationally known President Barack Obama impersonator, who also was at last year’s event

Dustin Gold was determined by the grand jury to be innocent of these charges. Dustin Gold was no billed (aka not charged, the charges were dropped) by the grand jury because this incident was self-defense, which was supported by the testimony of Lead Investigator Mitchell.
