To perturbed: To say "where were the parents" shows total nonsense and a lack of understanding. Speaking from experience should the parents go out on a date with their children? To somehow point this very tragic event to the parents is terrible. I would believe Nicole's parents did an excellent job raising, caring and bringing up a very wonderful child. It is too bad we cannot be every place at ever time with our children but life is not not like that.

My very sincere condolences go out to Nicole's family in this tragic event in their child's loss.
I never knew your daughter but she sounds like a most wonderful person that I am sure many will miss.

To the person who felt compeled to make this comment.... who appointed YOU judge and jury... If you are a parent I hope you never have to go through this type of tragedy and again, if you are a parent do you have complete control over every move your children make... I would not throw stones if I were you..

My heart & prayers go out to the family of Nicole. May she rest in peace and be her families guardian angel to watch and protect them. As a parent myself-I am sure it is the MOST difficult thing to go through, more than words can describe to have to bury your own child. A parent should not have to go through this and I just hope that other teens out there look at this tragic story as an awakening and stop being reckless on the road while driving-as parents we love you and want to see you grow up enjoying life to the fullest!!

I have much condolences for the family of Nicole . Its a shame to see what teen driving has come too . None really knows what or how this tragic event happened . As for the boy who was with her , he has to live life every sinlge day knowing that he was the last one to share a moment with Nicole before she died. Although he may or may not have been the cause of the crash he still has to go through life knowing that Nicole died in his car, with him,he was driving. I never had a family member die in a car crash but I know that the family is extremly hurt and saddened by this. I feel bad for the Jason ( the boy that was with Nicole on the night of her death ), however he got a second chance at life. This just goes to show that in the blink of an eye life can pass you by, so take everyday one step at time and live life to the fullest .
REST IN PEACE NICOLE STEPEN .
YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED, EVEN THOUGH I DIDNT KNOW YOU I WISH I WOULD HAVE.

1) Why is a teen out at 2am?
2) A seatbelt probably would have saved her life
3) Need more information on the driver before we can make any comments.

It's all clearer now:

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-- The driver police said was involved in a deadly crash in New Haven on Friday is being held on $150,000 bail. Police said 22-year-old Jason Giardiello lost control of his car and hit a guardrail on Interstate 91 north near exit 8. His passenger, Nicole Stepen, 18, was killed. Police said Giardiello was on probation for a previous DUI charge and driving with a suspended license. Giardiello was in court Monday and is due back in court in two weeks.

I would blaim the parents but she was 18. Her choices where her own and unfortunately, her choice led to her death two-fold (being out with a guy with a history like that and not wearing her seatbelt)

I feel bad for the parents but she made her choices.

i wanna set a few things straight, Nicole didn't know his past, he lied to her like many older guys do with younger girls.
A seatbelt would NOT have saved her, the way the crash happened she would have been killed with or without it, it was a head injury that killed her, not lack of a seatbelt.
I don't know why she was out at that hour but i can tell you where her mother was: driving all over town trying to find her.
i blame the driver, he lied to her about his past to get her to trust him.
Her only mistake was being such a trusting person.
RIP Nicole.

you act like because he has a past he meant to kill her. she was drunk and she drove from new haven to west haven. got more drunk there. the driver was wrong for driving . he didnt have a licence. everyone understand that. but because of his criminal past u blame him? thats wrong. he crashed. he had a seatbelt on. she didnt. its so sad that she is dead. but blaming someone isnt going to stop your pain.
