I use to work in a store that sold paintings of a "black Jesus". I was told that some people think that he was black. I know it dosent matter what race Jesus was, but I was just wondering why some people think that he was black? I always thought that he was jewish.

I understand, but the problem is that society here in the U.S. and Europe paints him as a white man, which he isn't. Jesus was Jewish, but Jews now days look so much different than they looked thousands of years ago. Jesus probably looked like an Arab or Middle Easterner.

I think Jesus probably is whatever the person is that believes in him. When we go to Heaven it does not matter.

I seriously doubt Jesus was a chameleon. If he really existes then he definitely had a particular skin tone. The problem is that people/churches want an image that reflects them. So if you are white you want a white Jesus if you are black you want a black Jesus. Everyone wants to be justified in believing what they believe. I think that skin tone isn't the only thing that people try to change about Jesus to make him fit into their lives.

Think about it - he was born in the MidEast with a mother who was Arabian therefore he would have had the appearance of those people - brown skin, black hair,...
But now that He's 'sitting on the right hand of the Father', He is back to His Spiritual appearance.
We'll know what happened to His earthly body come Judgement Day.

Race doesn't matter. Jesus was born Jewish. We don't know, nor will we ever know how light or how dark His skin was. Most people choose to associate Him with people of their own race. People try to think too deeply into things like this. It's not important. It was just His earthly body anyways.

Not funny to make fun of Jesus. Yes he was Jewish and most are dark. Plus he walked in the hot sun all the time. Im sure he was very dark.
Sad to say most people wouldn't like him if he walked up. He isn't a picture. He was tired, worn,no soap to bathe, no brush and shampoo,no skin so soft.

Jesus looked just like the folks you see on TV that are now in Jordan, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. He was of the area and pretty much would have looked like a man with typically darker hair possibly straight or soft curls. His skin would have been what ours here looked like if he had a good tan. He would not have been black and he would not have been considered white either. If you wanted to put him in a character visual box he would have been caucasian but that doesn't really fit the picture. He was middle-Eastern. Not much more can be made into or read into that. All people perceive their spiritual hero as they would see anyone they would look up to. I see him as white simply because all the paintings I have seen all my life have imaged him that way. The truth is that he is all things to all people. If you have arguement with that then you are most likely an Atheist, which is your right to be.
