Does anyone know if the New Rooster Kitchen went out of business? I tried calling their number and it rang a few times then shifted over to a voice stating the number was unavailable and to leave a message in the mail box. I drove by and it was shuttered up and the name on the building was covered up. What gives?

Well, the place did need a good cleaning. As long as nobody was hurt. Any plans to rebuild will be addressed by the village. I hope they allow them to expand into a sit-down restaurant by using the dollar store space.
I spoke to the owner many years ago, and was told he wanted to make a Chinese Buffet, but the TOB told him no. So, he opened the dollar store.

To expand using the dollar store would require the owner to buy fuel oil to heat the place. He always told me oil was to expensive and he never heated the restaurant and relied on warmth from the stoves. I've been in there in the winter and you could see your breath in the store! The guy was so cheap, I'll bet he didn't even have insurance on the place.

food was gross

Ugh, that food was THE WORSE! WORSE food I ever had, and the place was nasty! We had delivery once. After we ate, we were cleaning up, and a cockroach climbed out of the box that they serve the food in! 2 weeks later, we had to spray because our house had cockroaches. Before you all start, YES, we do keep our house clean. NO we did NOT have them before, only after we got a delivery from them. Never ate there again, and never had roaches again. That's one fire I don't mind.

That's one fire I don't mind. I had a similar situation. I brought home an order and a roach crawled out of the corrugations between the layers of cardboard. You have to remember that the best of restaurants have roaches. I agree with you that the place needed a good cleaning. If he reopens again maybe he will take better care of the place, If not, the people of Mastic Beach should complain that they are trying to clean up the area and this includes the businesses in town.

When I said it "needed a good cleaning", I was being polite. I stopped going there when I saw the same leaf on the floor 2 weeks in a row.
It is a perfect location for what could be a great Chinese Restaurant business. I would hope the Village insists that the site plan includes new windows and a Brick front with better lighting fixtures. No Main Street businesses should have cheap vinyl siding.

Sushi is Japanese, by the way. I am hoping the place is restored and opens again, maybe with better management. It could also benefit from an improved storefront.

And it is also the cost of doing business to make sure your premises looks decent. I did not attack them, I said I stopped going there after i saw the state of the floor in the seating area. It was gross, but I politely said it could use a cleaning. Read back my post and show me where I was anything but respectful. I read other posts which talked about roaches, etc. That was not me, in case you got confused. I think you are trying to spin this as another negative about the big bad village coming down on a local business man. The owners of the restaurant will likely have insurance and will rebuild. I welcome them to do that....But, I am not going to pay for it...

And, there was a Community Development Grant offered to all the businesses on Neighborhood Rd, which would match 50% of the cost of new storefronts, windows, doors, and signage. How many business took the offer..........NONE.

New Rooster Kitchen 389 Neighborhood Rd Mastic Beach, NY 11951
The Suffolk County Department of health said on my foil request that I put in writing this place has violations a mile long.
Flies, Flys eggs, mice, rodents, Cats, bio hazard violations? who knows what that is? inproper cleaning, no sanitiser, etc etc the list goes on.
Another Mastic S-Hole - sound s like the dirt water dog trucks all over Mastic and Shirley that the vendors pee in the water when it goes low for the hotdogs.

Flies improper sanitation ? or were you trying to say sanitizer? Hot dog is two words. I find it so funny that a person with a third grade education is on here EVERY DAY making fun of US! You should spend more time READING, and less time on topix.
