We've been 2 weeks without heat. After visit #5 from a Douglas company yesterday, again this morning we have no heat. Can anyone recommend a good heat/ac repair company in Coffee, Atkinson, or Berrien counties?

What is wrong with your unit? What are the symptoms?
Mine would come on and hum this summer. It was a blown capacitor. An easy fix from the electrical place on the Baker Highway near Anistons or there abouts. I went to Coley's first but they didn't have a capacitor. The other place was a great price for 11.27 for the part and walked me through replacing it. You just unscrewed the bit and transferred the wires one at a time to the new capacitor to make sure you get the right one in the right place. That was my problem, but 5 companies couldn't fix it, which means you may need a whole new unit.
You may need to just spend the money and either buy a quartz infrared heater to supplement/use full time or just get your central HVAC fixed.

Currently using our fireplace and electric heaters. Central unit is propane. It has auto ignition but will not light. $540 spent so far.

Actually $540 paid to the company you mention. Seems they can't fix it, and we may need to get someone else.

You can try Chaney's Heating and Air. They have a good reputation. With propane you need to be careful so there are no leaks. You may need a new filament/lighter, but I'm pretty sure they thought of that. I would call them back and have them fix it right siting the money you have already spent. Did you get a quote and an identification of the problem? If so, they should fix it without a problem. Most companies stand by their work. Get an itemized list of what the $540 was spent on as well. This way you know what has been done.

May have to go total electric. Wonder if we'll just lose the fuel in the propane tank. Just had it filled.

It may just be better to fix the problem rather than replace the entire unit unless you do not have central AC now, if not, I would update to save money in the long run. You would loose the propane unless you have another propane appliance, then you can roll the line to that appliance, water heater, range, gas logs...it would do to use gas logs if you don't have them now. More environmentally friendly and cheaper to run than on wood.

Would prefer to repair the propane unit we have now, but we've got to have heat one way or another.

What in world have they been servicing? I would find out what they have done and stand over the man the entire time while he worked. They have to have some guarantee with their work. Call and speak to the boss man to have him review the case.

Sounds like the carbon monoxide safety switch flipped. Try resetting it. If you use air freshers or have a real Xmas tree it'll sense the smell and turn off the fuel but continue to recirculate the air. Five companies, no fix. That is bad.

I believe a propane outside pool heater is what totally destroyed the Lewis home in Westwood Heights years ago. I heard a guest happened to look out a window and see something was wrong. They were able to get out of house before it exploded. I would buy a few energy efficient safe-tip over space heaters and tough it out until Spring. You may be able to route propane tank to outside grill or fireplace insert.

Already replaced that part and the regulator. Maybe the fireplace is interfering? But there was no fire in the fireplace yesterday when they came. No air fresheners or real Christmas tree.
