Thanks, Settle. This is great to know.
Thanks, FYI, for the information. I must admit that my ADHD kicked in. I could not follow your argument completely. However, as for your remark about pit-bull "type", the article you cited also referred to them as pit-bull "type." Not sure why. They did the same with husky type.
I am not in favor of banning a certain breed, but I think people should use caution and understand that pet ownership is a personal responsibility. From news stories about "fatal" dog attacks, from that data that is available, and from personal experience, I still believe that the pit-bull dog is the most aggressive and dangerous type. Rottweilers and German Sheppard dogs are also known to be aggressive and in a number of cases have killed humans. And yes, any dog can be trained to be mean. Some just have stronger inbred tendencies.
My aunt and uncle owned a pit-bull that they loved very much. He was a family pet who had never been trained to fight or be aggressive. He was never tied up. As he got older, his genetic tendencies exposed themselves, and he became aggressive with the family that loved him. He even bit my uncle. My aunt secretly had him euthanized the next day. My uncle was not angry because even though his love for the dog would not allow him to make that decision, he knew it was the right thing to do.
I once owned a German Sheppard that was a cause for concern. He became too territorial, and I was afraid that he would attack strangers. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, he was run over before I had to make a decision about his fate.
I have lived and learned. Now I have my dogs neutered, keep them in a fenced-in yard, and I choose breeds that are known to be less aggressive. I have family, friends, and precious grandchildren who come to visit often, and I want to make certain that they are all safe here. I own guns and a security system for protection, not a bad-azzed dog.
All I am saying is that aggressive dog (regardless of breed), or any dog for that matter, should not be allowed to roam around neighborhoods. If it is reported that parents are neglecting their children, DFACS checks on it. If someone reports that a dog is roaming around unsupervised, then animal control needs to take care of it. People who do not want to properly care for their children should not be allowed to keep them, and people who do not want to properly care for their pets should not be allowed to keep them.
Finally, if a person trains a dog to fight, regardless of the breed, that person should go to jail if the dog attacks a human.

The shameful thing is that people will do this to dogs, they will also do it to their children. The most horrific serial kills began by harming animals. Just neutering animals deals with a great chunk of that aggression. The same could be true of humans as well.
People that have dogs and children probably shouldn't have either of them. The research still shows that most attacks are on young children that are not supervised when in the company of a dog. That is the key factor, supervision. Just because you have a fenced in yard, a dog, and a kid, doesn't mean they can all be let out in the yard to play while you do whatever. This is the problem for many accident with children.

if all adults would get neutered that would solve most of everyones problems. including the US Government.

Not all problems, but much of the violent issue we have. There are some serious criminal studies done on testosterone in males and most violent criminals. Naturally and Unnaturally elevated levels of testosterone are found in the most violent criminals. It is a performance enhancing drug!
