From The Bottom of their website:

The timeline for full accreditation is lengthy, imposed, and can take up to seven years for completion. There is no shortcut.

The student's ability to transfer credits is important to Morthland College and an issue that has impacted the design of our curricula profoundly. Ultimately, when an institution receives transcripts from another college, they wish to ensure that the student has received a quality education and has completed coursework that is identifiable at their institution. One simple way is to make a decision based on accreditation alone. When a college is in the accreditation cycle, the decision is more difficult. Problems arise because some states have very loose regulations for approving colleges; and these are the origins of diploma mills. Other states - like Illinois - have some of the highest standards possible for a new college to be formally approved.

Morthland College has designed their curricula in a way that is easily understandable for program advisors at other institutions and has designed their general education core curricula around the Illinois Articulation Initiative standards. The institution is currently seeking articulation agreements with other colleges to facilitate this process. For students planning to transfer, please discuss your plans with one of our academic advisors so that we can help you in this process.

To some that up: "No we are not accredited and our credits are useless if you intend to transfer to another college".

You people are crazy, I hope you do not live in West Frankfort, because if you do, you are so ignorant!!! Some hard working people are trying to make your town to prosper and add some jobs and make your kids not to drive 50 miles somewhere to get a great education!!! So what that they have classes on Wednesdays, this is not school for prists, this is school to give your kids knowledge, so they could find a descent job, non of the employer will care if your kid knows some chapter from the bible.

yea but if the college isn't accredited don't waste your time going there and just go somewhere else plain and simple.

As a student of the first class at the institution, I can clarify a few things.

Morthland College is a Christian College. It is committed to high standards in much the same way as the early divinity schools of Harvard and Yale. These standards will not change if you are an athlete.

I'll not speak to scholarships, except to say that several students have attempted to leave halfway through classes without paying.

As for accreditation, there are two levels: state and federal accreditation. We have made it through state accreditation, that's why we have degree granting authority. We have not made it through federal accreditation, but have reasonably substantiated hopes to be through this very soon.

I chose to attend Morthland College very simply because it is the best school around for my field of study, Biblical Linguistics (technically, though, the degree is Biblical Studies (Languages)). Attending Morthland College, I have learned more than I could have attending anywhere else. After my first semester at Morthland College, I was accepted into an MA program in Applied Linguistics at UND. While accreditation is important, it is not the only thing, and students who work hard will be successful no matter when we obtain that piece of paper.

I think some people are missing the point here. Morthland DID NOT TELL STUDENTS OR FAMILIES THAT THEY WERE NOT ACCREDITED. This is a very big deal since credits can't be transferred. This is a Christian college that apparently lied to get students!

@Thepoint

The statement, "Morthland DID NOT TELL STUDENTS OR FAMILIES THAT THEY WERE NOT ACCREDITED," is simply false, and betrays an ignorance that is likely willful. The accreditation status was made known to me before visiting Morthland College, and was clarified further during my visit by Dr. Morthland and the rest of the faculty. The accreditation status is laid out in depth at student orientation each semester, which all new students are required to attend. Updates are given at student-body meetings, and before Chapel when appropriate.

Again, I chose Morthland College because it is the most qualified school in the state to offer education in my particular field of study, Biblical Linguistics. Morthland College is the only school in the state that offers undergraduate Coptic and Ugaritic, allowing me to advance among several languages at an accelerated rate. Having taken several foreign languages (namely, Spanish, German, and Arabic) at other undergraduate institutions, and having discussed other schools programs with colleagues currently taking these courses, I, as one of only a few qualified to make any such judgement, am confident in my assessment of Morthland College

Please inquire as to the veracity of your claims before you make them. Feel free to let me know if I can clarify anything else.

@Lost,

Morthland College is located at 202 East Oak. Coming north on 57, turn right off the ramp onto main street. Follow it until you get to Emma (a mile or two), and then turn right. Take Emma one block and Morthland College will be on your left, at the intersection of Oak and Emma. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!

With your degree where or what do you plan to do with it ? How will any future employer or another school look at what you have done? It's not worth the paper it is written on based on what as been said.

@Him,

You were likely told that we are state accredited through IBHE, which is true. If you were offered a scholarship by administration, you received it. I understand there has been some confusion in what those recruiting athletes have said, but if so, this reflects only on their confusing terminology, not on any reality at the college. Again, if you attended orientation, this confusion would have been clarified there.

@ABC,

I plan on pursuing further education. Like I said, after only a semester at Morthland College, my experience in Foreign Language was sufficient to get me accepted into an MA program at UND. As far as employment goes, I have received three job offers in cognate fields, including positions as a translator for an international marketing group, a ghostwriter for foreign language textbooks, and a course content writer for high-school foreign language courses. In December I will be applying to the UofI, Harvard, and MIT, and I am confident that I will make it into these schools. The issue is really this: anyone who wants to see Morthland College fail is going to imagine that to be the case. Anyone who gives the college any reasonable consideration will realize that it is a quality institution. Lots of people have made statements against Morthland College, but not a one of them has had either the ability to back up their claims, or the integrity to defend their claims. When Morthland college is federally accredited, they will have made themselves like fools.

Again, although by now I sound like a broken record. I am three years ahead in school. I graduated highschool two years early. I could have attended any number of other quality schools (the UofI, for one), and received a full ride scholarship. I chose to attend Morthland College, a far more expensive choice for myself (although fairly priced), because it is the best school in the state for undergraduate Biblical Linguistics, likely in the nation. No one who has examined the program in depth have been able to say otherwise.

@ABC,

If you talk with people who know anything about accreditation in general and Morthland College in particular, rather than Joe Schmoe at the gym, you will find your concerns addressed.
