On the West Frankfort forum here. But "In the know", you might want to pay a bit more attention to things. Topics for locations in close proximity to each other are sometimes listed on each other's site. But I guess you knew that already, since you're "In the know"?

The new head coach is Dan DeWerff from Pawnee high school. He did have a couple stipulations in his contract though. The only one so far being published is on game nights Rumraisin cannot be within 200 feet of the gymnasium the BIRDS are playing in. Will update when the rest of the contract is published.

Wonder Y our 2 home town guys didn't want the job? Both had the pull to get it. Didn't they? Maybe the board was divided enough so in close session neither carried enough weight to get it. I'm guessin the stress put on the varsity coach could be more than they wanna bare. An yer speakin of Rum. Don't no if her hubby will be buying us three chair seats next season or not. I'm not gung ho about it, but I imagine he will, and I'll continue being a redbird b ball fan too. Regardless of how it all plays out. What better way is there ta spend a winter week end nite around here anyhoo. GO REDBIRDS.

Let us all support our new coach. He is young and eager to make a big splash and we are all ready for him to do well. Hope he makes playing bb fun for the children who wants to play. Good Luck Coach.

Aren't Varsity Redbirds young adults. Of course there are teenage children, but where does it end calling them children?

I agree with "interested". West Frankfort needs to support new families coming to the area. Sometimes that's the problem with small towns -- not always welcoming to new blood. We need to support the town and school without talking behind people's back. Wishing you all well.

Why did Stevens hire a CRONIE of his from Massac County and not a young man qualified from WF who was born and raised here and who will be a part of our COMMUNITY.

Pawnee is near Springfield, which is the total opposite direction of Massac County. He sounds like a motivated young man who has two regional titles and a winning career record to his credit and is willing to take over a program that hasn't had an abundance of talent to work with the past few seasons, so be please be supportive, not immediately skeptical. And another thing, Mr. Stevens did not hire him. The superintendent does the hiring, pending approval from the school board.

They are not making a referance to the basketball coach, they are talking about the new science teacher. They are confused on this one.
