I bought our lab MIX from PetLand in another state almost 7 years ago. We have papers from this store stating that our lab is 100%yellow lab. You can look at him and know for a fact that he is lab mixed with hound. He has had a bladder problem from the beginning!! We could tell he was abused and not use to being outside of a cage. It was very sad that we brought home this puppy at 6months of age and he didn't act like a puppy at all!! I am glad we were able to save this dog and wouldn't trade him for anything but we will NEVER go back to any PetLand or stores like them for selling puppy mill dogs... It's insane that people are so careless. Investigate everything you can about where petstores are getting their puppies. This store lied to our faces about the puppy we purchased!! We learned our lesson. It's horrible that stores can get away with this!!
think about you made a puppies life better!!! do you really care if it is full lab?don't you still love your dog?

My sister works in the kennel at Pet Plus and I know for a fact that she loves those puppies and she does everything that she needs to do to make sure that they are healthy. I think that people need to stop thinking just because the previous name of the store and the problems that they had, that they can come in and assume that the new store is the same thing....I know that the kennel workers at Pet Plus and the management crew have taken all the steps to make sure that they are doing the right thing and making sure that the puppies are loved and taken care of..The people out there saying these nasty things are so wrong and you have no idea how these guys care for the puppies, and who are you to judge!!!!!!!!

I agree that not all breeders in Iowa are puppy mills. The problem is that about 700 are licensed and regulated, but there are thousands that are not.
The puppies are so energetic and love to get out and play...in fact i take my kids in there once in awhile just so the puppies will have more socialization and i even ask which puppies need to play so that we can play with them...the puppies are so loveable and they are watched very close you dont even have a freakin clue!!!!!!!!!!

Both Petland and the AKC inspect breeders and kennels. Perfect Puppies/Mohrfeld is on the a list called the "DO NOT BUY LIST"!!! Any Petland that purchases puppies from Mohrfeld is violating their franchise agreement and any petstore that purchases puppies from Perfect Puppies/Mohrfeld is purchasing from a "PUPPY MILL".

Perfect Puppies/Mohrfeld's operation should be shut down. He has to be in violation of every law and regulation in existence in Iowa. Even Petland accepted that his pups were bad and gave us our money back when our dog had to be hospitalized. NO QUESTIONS ASKED! We supplied the vet records and a check came...only for the purchase price. Nothing was provided for the $8000 vet bills we had to cover. We eventually had to surrender the pup to a vet and rescue league as his bills were too high for our family.
These pups from Pet Plus are starting out just like Petland puppies...respiratory infections and illnesses...soon there will be death and long term issues. Pups from Mohrfeld are inbred and not from good bloodlines. We traced our puppy back and the original parents' pedigree was falsified.

I totally disagree with this Karrie. I shop at Petco, Pet Plus and Pet Smart. My experience with Pet Plus has been nothing but the best. I have purchase many animals/ creatures and other pet supplies. I found there service / products and animals to be very healthy and high quality. My relatives purchased a dog their recently and are very pleased. Per their comments and the Veterinarian's - the dog is in great shape. On top of that the prices at Pet Plus beat that of Petco or Petsmart.

I warned people not to buy from Pet Plus!! But people just dont want to listen my husband I used to run Petland for Brian and Tim, then my family bought the store, but my family walked away from it in Nov of 2009! Due to feuds with business partner!! And the store went back to the Mohrfelds. I now for a fact they get their puppies from puppy mills, I have experienced it first hand!!! Please do not buy from them when are you people going to learn!! we all need to band together to get them shut down!! Please help with spreading the word!!!

Joanne who owns Pet Plus and runs it...makes no effort to step out of the shadow of the Petland rep. My daughter purchased a pet from her recently...it "got along with other dogs" It fought with her dog all night after an entire night of no sleep. We brought the dog back roughly 14.5hrs after purchase. I tried to reason with Joanne about their return policy of keeping 1/2 your money or 350 she returned 1/2 the money and kept the entire microchip fee and would not hear a work otherwise. I she was rude. When I told her we were there to discuss a return she yelled that she was short handed and went in the back and stood there wiping down kennels while we stood there waiting in plain view for 15mins. She finally came out slammed the register drawer down on the counter and gave us some lecture about college kids buying dogs for parties and brining them back...then tried to convince me she was doing us a favor by not charging us 350...Great way to get return customers lady...Wow!

Wow, a friendly staff and an owner who talked to you personally to answer questions??? Amazing these puppies are definately NOT from a mill then! USDA approved breeders mean squat. What breeder would sell their pups to a pet store?? Not a responsible one. Nope, just puppy mills.
Do your research before buying a puppy from a pet store, especially chain stores such as Petland (PROVEN to buy their pups from mills).
By purchasing an animal from these stores, you support puppy mills. They continue OVERBREADING their dogs, while they live in small overcrowded cages, never having positive human contact. When they are no longer able to breed, guess what.... they are destroyed.... killed. So you may think that you are saving a puppy from them, but you are encouraging more and more dogs to live in hell so these people can make a profit.
Just remember, NO RESPONSIBLE BREEDER SELLS ANY PUPPIES TO A PETSTORE OR PET BROKER.
Maybe you will be lucky and get a puppy that is not sick or hiding some congentital illness. But considering many of these dogs breeding lines are crossed ... aka inbreeding occurs... you may end up with a very sick dog.
Don't pay attention to USDA approved, as it means nothing, other than MINIMUM BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS. MINIMUM.
If you want a new pet, consider visiting a shelter. There are MILLIONS of homeless forgotten animals in need of a loving home. Many shelters also spay/neuter, vaccinate, train, and offer behavior help. If you want to go through a breeder, make sure they are good breeders. Do your research on them before buying.
So don't let the 'kind' people at any pet store, petland, pets plus, or wherever else pull the wool over your eyes. They are all puppy mill dogs. All of them. Don't believe me, do your research. There have been numerous investigations into this subject, and it has been proven time and time again that these pet stores buy their animals from mills.
Adopt, don't shop.

Wow Karrie..... You've got a lot of nerve saying what you posted! Have you been in their store? I have, and will say that the staff there are so friendly. I was speaking with one about their puppies and breeders and came across a few questions that they were unable to answer. The response to me was that they were going to go talk to the owner to get the correct answer. And instead of them relaying the answer back to me, she personally came out to talk with me. I don't remember you ever doing that.... Their puppies along with all the other animals within the store look to be doing great and are happy. I SUPPORT PET PLUS AND HOPE ALL WHO READ THIS GIVE THE STORE A CHANCE! There is nothing wrong in doing so. They are going above and beyond in my, and others, eyes to do whats best for their animals. BEST OF LUCK PET PLUS!!!!
