I am not against fireworks. If people wanted to shoot them off only on the 4th, so be it. However, I have one dog who appears to have been trained as a hunting dog. She goes NUTS every time she hears the fireworks and firecrackers - thinks it's a gun going off and she's ready to kick butt. I have two other dogs in the house who are highly afraid of thunder and lightening. Fireworks and firecrackers represent both. They get so upset, I'm waiting for the moment where they both stroke out. My neighbors who have dogs in the same situation think it's a so funny, and keep setting them off. Have your fun on the 4th, but be respectful for those around you.

You are right Iowalifer !!!!!
I drive an 18-wheeler, and stop every year to buy my supply. I spent $1900.00 this year, and I hope I put on a great show in Urbandale on the night of the 4th.

By making fireworks illegall, it is just going to make people want to do them anymore. I dont live in Urbandale, but i think a bunch of people should stand right on the boundary line of Urbandale and shoot off as many fireworks as possible. What are they going to do if your not actually IN Urbandale? And to all the people who complain about fireworks? really? Its one time of the day to celebrate your country! Yeah, fireworks may be a dumb thing to do to celebrate, but it's the way things have always been. Just because you are propably old, even though i bet even YOU have set off fireworks when you were younger.

Dave R,
It's geolocation and not accurate. Their internet is routing out of West Des Moines. There's your technology lesson for the week.
Back on topic: I've found that making something illegal doesn't stop the activity it just makes people better at avoiding law enforcement.
Do yourself a favor this 4th: if a cop hands you a ticket for fireworks, tell them to go f*ck themselves.

I know people that spend $5,000 A YEAR on illegal fireworks. Yeah, give them a fine - that will show them!(The fine in Iowa is $250 BTW - see article which really gives the impression the fine is small potatoes)!!

Stupid laws in place because of stupid people abusing the law. but polk country could make more money if they just legalized it and tax it.

If fireworks were legal in Iowa the state could tax the sales and keep some of that money in the state instead of letting it go to MO. Its no different then drugs, or alcohol back in the 20s. I have never used drugs and don't plan on it either, Im just saying. Why not tax it and stop spending all the money on it.

You are making me LOL.
Urbandale usually has the least of any fireworks in the metro area.
My family is hoping to watch your fireworks display on the 4th.

dumb idea. now the urbandale police will spend the entire day and night trying to enforce no fireworks (which they'll never be able to do with the manpower they have) and when someone really needs police assistance they'll be tied up writing johnny a ticket for lighting a firecracker...

I know a couple of Urbandale cops that are notorious for their involvement in "nonprofessional fireworks displays". I wonder if they'll be turning themselves in?

Today is June 6 and one of my neighbors here in Urbandale shot off fireworks this morning...YES!!!!! Wonder if UPD showed up? Doubt it, as with the 4th by the time they respond all evidence will be gone and then there is nothing they can do. You are not going to stop people and I really think with this "no tolerance" story in the news more people now are going to set them off to prove a point...UPD can't be everywhere.

Luckily cops on the eastside have better things to do than give out citations for celebrating our independence with a bang--just don't be stupid and use common sense and everything will be allright-

When Urbandale says they are going to adopt a "ZERO TOLERANCE" on Fireworks this year, makes me want to break their law.
I AM GOING TO BREAK THEIR LAW & LIGHT MY FIREWORKS ANYWAY.
I drive an 18-wheeler, and intend on being home the weekend of the 4th, to do just that. Since I have spent $2000.00 in Ohio on the "BIG ONES", I hope I put on a great show.
The 4th of July is my favorite Holiday, and I am not going to let the city of Urbandale, tell me what I can or can not do on this holiday.
GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!

I thought the 4th of July was a celebration of our independence. What do you think our forefathers would think about this? More of big brother caving to fun-haters!
