1 i went to the glen mills schools, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. and yes staff does get a little physical, when its warrented. when you have kids that are out of control it is the job of the staff to keep them under control, and teach them to live as a productive member of society.if they werent out of control, then they wouldnt be there after all. |

Here is a video clip from a story 48 Hours did on Glen Mills.
http://www.youtube.com/watch... To the parents... I was a student in 87-88 and a staff member from 96-99, if you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me. Glen Mills saved my life! ed_buffone@hotmail.com |

I remember when a TV crew was coming to the campus. We were told in advance not to step an inch out of line, or it was our ass. Which is perfectly fine, they want to look good that is understandable. The problem is, is that we all knew what would happen if we said anything about the side the cameras do not see. We would catch a serious beat down... The great things about GM are all on this video. I love the part about the NORMS, but what they should of showed was what takes place when someone breaks a norm.... it would probably be too graphic for regular tv. and everyone wonders why this looks like a perfect world at GM, because these kids are scared of getting beat. There is no choice at GM, either follow the norms or get beat. What choice would you make if you had to spend the next 12 to whenever many months there? |

Dan,
Seriously Bro, you are so so sad... I honestly have grown to feel sorry for you. They do not call The Mills last chance high for no reason. If you do what you have to do there you can truly change your life and that is what really matters! You know it and I know it. I have worked in countless programs and every one has had some sort of physical restraint and each place there are those that get physically restrained. In each place there are those that have cried foul. It is part of the system. It is what keeps the others safe. Instead of being so bitter think about what would happen to the other 98% of the 1000 students at Glen Mills if the 7 levels didn't exist. You live Erie. I have lived in Erie. I spent two years at Edinboro. Erie is not Los Angeles or Miami or the countless other cities that Glen Mills receives students from. Glen mills takes the worst of the worst. Very violent inner citiy gang kids. There must be order. There must be security. What would happen to the weaker kids if there wasn't? How would the parents feel then. What if you were prayed on by the stronger kids and possibly hurt? Would that be your rally cry? Would you say Glen Mills is horrible. They did nothing to protect me. Glen Mills is a microcosm of society. And there is no perfect society because of what is called the human factor. What needs to be concentrated on here are the lives that are changed and saved. What programs out there are perfect? Please tell me Dan because I want to work there. I truly do and I will relocate tomorrow to make that happen. You are such a negative and depressed person. Instead of scaring these parents try telling them what their sons can do to take advantage of the program and better themselves. Use your experience there for the better. Change one kid's life by helping him get through the program taking advantage of the program. Change one kids life and change the world. Crying on this blog every time somebody says something positive about the program or declaring the fact the Glen Mills saved there life isn't helping anyone. Dan, I can not express enough how sad of a person you have become. Look at that video again and please tell me and these parents where is better. Please help and give these parents an alternative. |

Ps. The thing that I loved most about the video was the recidivism rate at Glen Mills... 35%. The national average is 80%. What that means is only 3.5 kids out of 10 from Glen Mills will recommit crimes when they leave. In all other placements across the United States, 8 out of 10 will recommit. Dan, when you strip away all the good and all the bad, all the pretty and all the ugly, the fact remains that The Glen Mills Schools is the most successful reform school and placement for at-risk court adjudicated youth in the entire country. Facts don't lie Dan, Glen Mills changes and saves lives no matter what type of picture you have spent years trying to paint.

Dan your not ttelling people you use to work there are you? cause I worked there and I know all four employees from erie pa that work there now and have left there. Atu, Owen, Mike, Sam and another mike from the edinboro area. Your just a kid that had a hard time or somthing. I know that school was tough but its even tougher for kids prob like your self that think an injustice have been done to you for forcing you to to better in your life...because how you behave effects everyone around you for the better or worst. Why not be for the better. What ever happen while you where look your self in the mirror and understand the role you played in it. If you have been wronged let it go an move on. If you hate the place why spend time dwelling on it. as far as bringing the school down...glen mills makes 2 million $ a week. And was trhe first of its kind. You ever wonder why there no cameras. Trust and respect kids get it. And they leave there a whole hell of alot smarter than when they came. So have you. You where hard headed and your ass was softened. Let it go and make a good life for yourself.
God bless |

If you want it to be a good experiance it will be. Glen Mills has a excelent sports program. The students with the status on campus are the ones doing well in the sports or educational programs. This is done to motivate the students who are not doing so well. And they will pay money for you to go to college if youu do well in the collage prep program they have.

My son is attending Glen Mills School in Concordville, PA. I received a call last night from another parent who son also attends the School. She informed me my son was touched, as they call it. He has 4 loose teeth as a result. They will not allow him to make any phone calls. Can some please go out to the School and investigate this abuse of students who attend this School. My son informed me a few months ago he had a bruise on his chest as a result of being touched. Students have been thrown into walls they are not allowed to defend themselves and are afraid to talk. My son was very freighted when the person who abused him held out his hand for me to shake it and I refused. I just visited him on Sunday and he informed me they pretend that he is doing good but denied him a home visit this past weekend because he was not pledged in as a Bull for a week or more. One of the parents informed me her son was able to come home after 60 days on a weekend pass. My son have been in this School for 4 months.

We all as concerned parents need to get together and get something done about the (ABUSE OF OUR CHILDREN, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED). I beleive in punishment not abuse. I'm not going to pay someone else to abuse my child.
