Sorry now is not the time to demand anything.

This is the time when UNIONs should protect jobs.

Time to dump the Union and save your jobs.

Wake up before it's too late KEEP YOUR JOBS!!!

the business has a right to replace them if they are unwilling to take a fair offer. How much does the union skim from their check every week?

I worked for a company where there turnover was very high. most people don't last 3 months, but you had to join the union by paying a 500 fee, then 75 a month, which they take out of your paycheck...by the time 3 months rolled around, the fee was paid plus the 225 for the fees, but most (probably 80% or higher) quit in the first 2 months, so the union keeps their entry fee and monthly dues. nice scam!

You must be an elitist. Nothing like a good recession to keep workers' expectations in check.

You can lay off older workers close to retirement so you don't have to pay, offer lower wages, offer fewer benefits, and basically exploit to your heart's content.

Great idea...glad you're not running the country.

You must mean get rid of all the unions and join the Republican party. Do you think management will render fair wages and benefits on their own? Have they ever, to anyone with no leverage? Do you not know the history of the American work force, which for so long had no rights and no recourse? I, for one, will boycott Shaw's. I don't like their prices, and now I don't like their style.

The article is clear they are not demanding more, they are demanding that Shaws not REDUCE their pay, is that what you want for this country, everyone to have their pay REDUCED. I'm not shopping at Shaws and you shouldn't either, taking no raise is one thing, reducing pay is clearly another.

You do not negotiate reductions in pay, what is fair about that, tell me, exactly what is fair in reducing their pay? Lucky they have a union or shaws would be negotiating the employees paying them.

very few will be fair murph....they will continue to bleed union members which in turn reduces wages for everyone in that particular sector. as the teamsters agreed to pay cuts, trucking companies nationwide, even without unions began cuts in wages and benefits.
of course this is fine for those who have no idea about the history of labor in this country even though there are entire rooms in libraries devoted to it.

Unions have outlived their usefulness. There are laws in place to protect employees nowadays. This isn't 1950.

They are NOT reducing their pay. You need to re-read it. They are getting a raise, HOWEVER, they are also being asked to increase their share in the benefits. This increase is essentially outweighing the raise, which is making think they're losing money. Has NOTHING to do with reducing pay.
