Can't we come up with a medicine for this? Despite the constant coverage, sting after sting these guys keep coming. These are not stupid people. This has got to be an addiction as bad as crack or heroin. As an abused child I used to hate these people but I'm beginning to feel that there's something more powerful here that a lot of us just don't understand. Locking these people up and tagging them as predators may not be the answer.

The only medicine I know of is Depo-Provera, which given at high doses will severely decrease a pedophile's sex drive.

However, these medicines cannot be made compulsory, and we can't trust pedophiles to volunteer for these injections on their own.

I am grateful for these police stings - I hope America is finally realizing how prevalent this problem is. It's in every town, in every state, and on every computer in our homes. We need to keep our children safe.

We should keep our children safe from predators.

The ones caught definitely have sick fantasies and something is just not right.

Would some or most of these adults trolling for children have ever actually acted out on their sick and twisted thoughts had it not been for police?

An online "predator" could be an 80 something year old that is paralyzed with a special way to type. Is this person an actual threat, or should his or her internet be unplugged by a court order?

The persons perpetrating identity theft are rarely punished even when you provide authorities evidence. A man in Somers, Craig Engelman, about 5 years ago was selling bootleg pornos and had bilked hundreds of citizens all over the country selling DVD players on eBay that he never intended on selling. He raked in over $100,000 spending it at strip joints, getting sex in the "Champagne Rooms". His 3 kids and wife and himself all live at his parents, or did, in Somers Connecticut. This sack of crap only got 5 years probation, no prison.

All crimes need to be investigated. There should be no specialization with other areas of law enforcement go lacking.

Male police officers allegedly can go after young female "groupies" and those crimes are too often covered up. Police officers raping women, too often goes univestigated:

Police officers can pay a police informant $10,000 to murder someone, and police officers merely lose their jobs, they are tried:
http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Make a police misconduct complaint, get stabbed 13 times by a felon police informant on probation om retaliation, get arrested when you wake up in the hospital. The felon on probation might not even get violated on probation for almost killing 3 people. Proof:
http://thegetjusticecoalition.blogspot.com/20...

I would like to see officers do more "work" for out tax dollars. We pay them, we should also be the boss. They should act in our best interest.

A woman in Willington was beaten unconscious, left partly nude, after being raped. Police at Troop C, Tolland Connecticut took her statement. An officer told her that if she was making a false statement she would be arrested. Officers are often rude and arrogant if they are too lazy and think they are above serving a citizen.

I reported a man that had brutally raped a 14 or 15 year old girl, carried an illegal handgun, and supplied local teens with drugs, all kinds, passing money and drugs in the Arizona Restaurant in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. The owner, if she is still alive, is a wonderful person and would not knowingly allow such behavior to go. Police did nothing, like almost always.

I think it is rather sick if a police officer is sitting 8 hours a day, 5 or more days a week in a room on the Internet pretending to be a 13 or 14 year old girl or boy, soliciting adults for sex, whereas he or she, an officer, can do or say anything, and the responding idiot, gets busted.

Pretty much any Internet Traffic and phone calls go through filters and everything is monitored, so adults that are actually trolling for children on their own can be identified. These are the real deal, criminal predators that need to be thrown away in prisons.

There needs to be civilian oversight of police. Police should not be able to commit crimes to get criminals. Officers should obey traffic laws when their emergency lights aren't flashing.

Officers will target citizens and set them up, if THEY aren't watched.

The "medicine" I would love to use is a so called electrified time out chair. Addiction? Or we talking about negative behaviors/crimes which are being accepted more and more these days by those in the media and law makers? Let's kick it up a notch people and then we will really see if people are really born that way or are messed with? Those laws better be dealt with accordingly for elections are coming up and many might not have those positions for too much longer....about those dx's how about some notes? If you are so inclined to have homo sexual sex how about engaging in an adult sexual relationship? Asswipe! Meaning, the remnants of having cleaned one's hiney.

QUOTE from story:"Farmington police also teamed with Massachusetts state police in the March 15 arrest of Albert Jeffrey Packard, 38, of Springfield.

On Feb. 28, local police arrested former Colebrook volunteer Fire Chief John T. "Jack" Boutin when he showed up at a McDonald's in the Unionville section of Farmington seeking sex with an individual he thought was a 14-year-old boy."

I'm sorry, but I get tired of the same old stories. What the polcie are doing is unconstitutional. If I were a juror is a trila of this nature, I would render a not guilty verdict due to the fact the police would not be able to produce a real victim. A cop posing as a minor is not a real victim.

No what the police are doing is NOT unconstitutional. They fill out a profile, go in the chat room and THEY get approached by the pedophiles. They CANNOT approach them.......I know this for a fact seeing as I deal with it in my employment.

Well said. I agree that jurors should take control and make the right choices, but it isn't going to happen. These are victimless crimes and a waste to the taxpayers.

Spike,
for a critic, you seem to read and view all of my stuff, regularly. You even know when I update my pages.

You sound like someone that comments off and on in my blogs.

My comments often upset the good officers. The bad ones wonder how much I know about them.

I had State and local police friends in Vermont and Massachusetts and wanted to become one. There are good cops in Connecticut, but too many of them are silent about the bad ones.

This is about sexual predators.

Too many cops are allowed to be sexual predators. The small percent out there is too many.

A woman I was dating, claimed that Connecticut State Police Officers found out she wasn't wearing underwear and violated her. And, then followed her home and again violated her, threatened her, and told her not to see many anymore, according to her.

If the officers violated the public trust and committed sexual assault what crimes are more serious.

Those caught in the "trolling for dollars" schemes of the Connecticut police are not talking to actual victims or children, they are talking to police officers trying to entice them into doing wrong.

What is more serious, actually sexual assault or some pervert having fantasies he or she would not act out on in most probability if not enticed by police?

I was always taught that when a person puts on the "Blue Uniform" that we were to be "Peace Officers" and nothing else. I guess this has all changed. Yes it is unconstitutional and it is also entrapment.

Creating a fake internet account and pretending to be a minor just to enter chatrooms is entrapment.

Your description of how it works is also wrong.

I have wondered just what kind of people these are who satisfy their hidden perversions by going on line and pretending to be boys for the sole purpose of entrapping (and I do not apologize for using this obviously correct term) older males who are receptive to sexual advances from boys. They get to indulge in their favorite fantasies, they get to hurt other people, they don't expose themselves to any danger, and they get paid for it. Pretty decent sinecure.
Considering that these perverted parasites are too lazy and/or cowardly to go after REAL criminals, there is no reason to believe that - as they claim - they do not actively troll for victims. Neither is there any reason to believe that the so-called "logs" of their exchanges are not altered to suit their nefarious purposes - and the victim is not likely to keep his own logs, so he has no way of disproving the fiction that this blue-suited predator invents.
If there really are large numbers of "real" boys out there searching for sexual encounters with older males (as Justin Berry started doing at 13) it would seem that the proper function of these butt-calloused armchair operatives should be to entrap these boys into meeting for sex. After all, these boys are obviously delinquent and deluded in thinking that they want sex with older males, and the noble policeman would be much better engaged in rescuing these young perverts from themselves.
And, of course, once all the sex-seeking boys were apprehended, the older males would soon give up on their quests.

It is disgusting that people arrange to entrap those seeking consensual sex. All consensual sex is the same. All consensual sex must be legalized. If fourteen is old enough to be prosecuted as an adult, it is old enough to consent to sex. The treatment of harmless, consensual sex as a crime on par with rape or murder is disgraceful.

The Legislative Judiciary Committee recently passed the Ken Krayeske legislation to curb the Connecticut police practice of having a secret "Enemies List" where police track a target for a take down, arrest, malicious prosecutions based on actual or manufactured evidence, coerced witnesses, and they end up in prison.

There is now a form of oversight of police in Connecticut.

Maybe officers will have to start being more courteous and actually have to start paying attention to the public's best interest not just their private agenda are armed revenue collection duties.

If Police just confiscate a person computer, they could plant all they want on it. Stranger things happen everyday.

A friend of mine that also proposed Civilian Oversight, also was on the same Enfield Landlord Group, and also got mouthy about police misconduct to reporters, was followed around by police, police got him fired from 3 jobs, they had his wife sign a statement that she did not dictate so Donny C could be arrested, and arrested him for being slapped in the back of his head and yelled at by a police officer's 16 year old prostitute girlfriend.

Police should not be able to throw their beer bottles on a Mayor's porch, vandalizing his house. This mayor testified in front of the Judiciary Committee:

"Jay," in his self declared omniscience, has linked "Veridicus" to one "Dave Riegel." He further compliments Mr. Riegel by describing him as a "pedophile," a word which is grossly misused as a pejoration by the American Psychological Association and others, but which by etymology simply means a "friend of children." It has nothing to do with either sex or abuse, but shares the same Greek root (Philos) with words such as Philadelphia and Philip.

But nevertheless, I ran this man's name through search engines, and found that he is a recognized researcher who has been published in scientific and academic journals:
http://80.239.139.52/dlracapub s.html

He also has two books that are handled by
http://www.amazon.com/
but which I will not list here, in order not to be guilty of a commercial promotion. Just plug his name into the amazon.com search field.

He also has a web site at:
http://www.shfri.net/dlr/

Others have published research in the area of boy/older male sexual encounters. Harris Mirkin, noted author of The Patterns of Sexual Politics (1999, Journal of Homosexuality 37 2), has observed that "... laws seemingly designed for the protection of the young are really intended to control them." Bruce Rind et al have demonstrated that the majority of sexual contacts between boys and older person are non-negative (1998, A Meta-Analytic Examination of Assumed Properties of Child Sexual Abuse Using College Samples. Psychological Bulletin 124 1), and Larry Constantine has observed that "Negative reactions of parents [and other adults]... to a child's sexual encounters, aside from their function of inducing guilt, can be ... the most psychonoxious aspect of the entire experience (1981, The Effects of Early Sexual Experiences. In Children and Sex, Constantine, L. and Martinson, F.(Eds.) Boston: Little, Brown, and Company). All of these can be verified with a Google search on the names or article titles.

This is a complex set of issues, and simplistic - if not inane - retorts and accusations fail to address the real questions. It would be much better if this forum were used for sensible discussion.
