Ok, Well, that was what I was told about him. That had all happened before I had moved to McKinley back in 1987. I thought the murder happened over on the power line also. Guess I'm wrong on that to.

The details sound right and even the powerline part, however it had to be after 1980. I guess the guy use to hang at the McKinley bar (guess most folks do so may not be of much help). I also dont think it was far from the river. Looking for more info for a book project I'm working and trying get close to the time and location to seek more info. Thanks for all the help so far!

So to use some of my law enforcement background and knowledge to move this blog along, the ROSE CITY police ( Chief / max was a friend of mine) they have no jurisdiction outside of rose city, unless asked to roll out and hold down a scene for the county or MSP , and the county or MSP took over with the report and investigation, I know Max was not deputized for Ogemaw county as he lived in Oscoda county and had/was sueing the sheriff there,,,(Dick head donny smith) anyway any investigation into the death wold be either the Ogemaw county sheriff of MSP west branchs jurisdiction, I think the county would have taken the 911 call so start by calling them with the date of incident name and location, and under freedom of information act request a compaint number and status of investigation, If it is a closed case yuo can request - under FIOA- again a copy of the case and inverstigators report, If MSP took the call then push them under FOIA, if it is closed you can get the report and settle your quest or add info to reopen the case based on facts you provide.
good luck

I knew randy bugg and also know he shot at his school bus after getting kicked off by dick handrich in 78-79? on welch road in curran, his father worked at the mckinley bar during the summer of the murder,80-81? was off playing army at that time. also from talking to friend in the dept he admitted strangling the girl, then going back and getting a shotgun came back and shot her in head to make sure she was dead, he is currently in standish michigan, in "otis" he is listed as # MDOC Number: 164667 lifer, anyway he is not related to the topic of murder in rose city, neither is Max G. the only people max was allowed to kill were in south east asia /5th SOG
doing his duties for his country.

It has been 3 years since my father has been murdered. If you actually HAD that tape, why didn't you come forward Carolyn... I hope you enjoy your walking horses!
No one can go back and change time, but knowing would be nice to a crime that has NOT yet been solved.
Thank you for keeping your thoughts and prayers with my family thru this whole ordeal.

I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings but Ed was not a nice man. At least the last couple of months he wasn't. He had a very short temper. He was on a lot of medication which did not help his up and down attitudes. You could tell what kind of a day it was going to be by how he was dressed and bathed. Disheveled....bad day. Clean....good day. There were cameras everywhere in the barn. He knew what was going on and what was being said at all times. I purchased a horse from him, boarded her at his stables, and put her in training. According to the trainer, she was never worked. He just took my money. The trainer, who recently purchased Goldust, and I were the only people boarding in October when we were given 2 weeks to vacate the premises because he was leaving for AZ sooner than he thought. Instead, he was served with divorce papers. He pleaded with us to return to his stables and board our horses. Someone spoke of video tapes he made of this State Trooper. Guess what???? I had that damn video. Ed gave it to me thinking it was a video of my horse. Wrong, I watched it. All of it. They were painting the fences in the back while the officer spoke of a hole that was dug and blocking the land-locked property behind them. I could hear the lies Ed told him. I was angered and threw the tape away. Now, I wish I had it. Maybe it would have helped someone. Did Ed commit suicide or was he murdered? My opinion, he was unstable, he had shot himself before in the leg, Jane served him divorce papers, all his friends deserted him, he no longer owned his prized stallion, and his 2nd favorite horse was just put down with colic, he ALWAYS locked the doors and there were too many cameras that would have caught a "murderer" entering the building. He was done with his life.

If there were cameras all over Ed DeWitts place why wasn't there a tape on the day people say he killed himself at this front door in this underwear with this teeth out. Ed may have been
mean up he was sick and had his problems. Someone
in the area of West Branch know what happened that
night..and they have to live with it. Disgarding
tapes of so of what went on is more that wrong.
and Carolyn you have to live with that. If Carolyn
wrote the last message....I will never stop looking for answers...

So much time has passed. I think about my brother everyday. Think if someone who say him everyday could have reached out and helped him . Even the doctors in Westbranch didn't help him. Its sad.
I was his little sister, I know he was mean at time and he wasn't in control of this behavior, but he was still a person and if you could see the
pictures from the seen you would agree no one should die alone like that. Pleae step forward and
go to the police. Someone was outside when the gun went off. Tell us what you heard what time you were that...why did you run ? Please help

This whole topic is so sad, I have read it from the start to the end, And My heart goes out to you and your family. There seems to be a lot of unanswered questions into this matter, And the sad thing is you may never get them, It is true, as it was stated they do take care of their own...And yes you will get people that will come here and talk nothing but craziness to you and your family,I seen another site on here that the family of a missing man in Newberry Michigan has been having the same sad problems. And Carolyn, hmm it seems to me you might have a wee bit of problem.Maybe just maybe you know a little more then you leading the family to believe.

I hope you get your answers and the people behind this are caught.

Well it is now 2 years later and I haven;t heard if anything was ever done! i remember it being on the TV news one time and nothing after that. I had forgoten about it until I read these comments. If nothing has been solved yet , Where is Cold Case Files?

#59 Nov 9, 2009
To Anonymous Ed DeWitt's case is still unsolved and he did not kill himself. He was at the front door in his underware at 1:00 in the morning and he was sleeping before he went to the door.

To amer it has been 3 and a half years now and still nothing just waiting for more information Ed birthday has just passed and the family is still holding hope for all the unanswered questions. Cold case files would be great how do you find that.

To all who has been keeping tabs thank you for keeping it alive.

I can't imagine Ed killing himself with no clothes on! He had a huge scar on his leg he was very self-conscious about! Didn't wear shorts even in the sweltering heat of the summer.........It is true he could be difficult at times........so many unanswered questions........I feel bad for the family! He sold me a wonderful colt!!
