W. Mass. Episcopal bishop backs lawsuit on gambling ballot question

Bishop Douglas J. Fisher of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts said he backs a civil suit filed this week that challenges state Attorney General Martha Coakley's decision to disqualify a ballot initiative that might repeal a 2011 Massachusetts law that allows up to three casinos and a slots parlor in the Bay State.

Good for him.

But, battling the interests of organized crime is a very difficult task that often costs in ways that cannot be predicted or foreseen.

Their capacity for resourceful negativity should not be underestimated.

I hope he gets a lot of help. He'll need it. Their money buys a lot of powerful votes.

It isn't hard to find a story where a TEC bishop supports suing someone.

He'll probably withdraw his support once he finds out that he doesn't actually get any real estate or anything from a win.

i wonder if he would still be on board if that ban included bingo night at the church.... It is gambling after all....

I don't think Episcopalians play bingo.

They profess to not care for the gambling aspect, plus it's probably a bit too plebian for them.
