As human beings we do have to show compassion for this young girl. At the same time, we have to review priorities and show compassion for the injured party which is the baby. This child could have died. Sure we know the girl placed the call and it was traced. Thankfully, the Suffolk police responded immediately and saved this baby. Where was the father of this child? If this girl lived at home, where was her family during this pregnancy? Just because she called the police, does not in any way make her a fit mother. When you bring a child into the world, you are responsible from conception. There are no second thoughts about how to care for your child. You need to respond immediately. Another life is in your hands and it is not to be dismissed. This girl could have brought this child to a church, a hospital, the police station, her family, her neighbors, a store. Someone would have helped her. She could have called the police to come to her home. Instead she made the decision to put this child outside and make the call. Totally inappropriate and this is too big of a mistake to make. She is not ready to care for a child. This child needs to be in a home where a mother and father will protect and care at all times and in all circumstances. The compassion this girl needs is to get her help mentally. Her priorities and thinking processes are completely messed up.

As usual, liberal reporting that is totally silent about the uncomfortable facts of the matter. What about the male ape, who saw nothing wrong with impregnating this hopelessly stupid female, and went on his way, without a backward glance, looking for another "conquest"? Is'nt it time we made a point of our displeasure at this primative behavior,and began hunting down the male offenders, and causing them enough grief for them to take notice? Same for the "mothers". Let's see to it that they are enlightened enough to behave in a civilized way, like the rest of us. The world will be a better place if we do.

I have been in the company of Katheryn Longendyke on several occasions. She is an intelligent and great person. This is a case where hormones definitely played a big role in her quick decision making. I have been a person with post-partum...it can occur immediately after giving birth or a few days later. Mine was immediately...where I refused for days to feed my son. I panicked when I knew this baby was going to be with me forever. I was married, great husband, beautiful home and I was so confused. Mind you during my pregnancy I was the happiest person and worked as an undercover narcotic's detective until the night before I delivered. And then all hell broke loose. Today I am proud to say with a lot of help from qualified doctors and family support I recovered in three months and now my son is twelve years old and greatful to the nurses who warned me and provided me with literature on post-partum depression...These chemicals are for real.

I know this woman very well and am very close to her..shes a good person and i am very sure didnt know what she was doing and was not in her NORMAL state of mind when this occured...i want the press to leave her alone and stop making her out to be a bad person..the media should GET A LIFE and go after REAL CRIMINALS instead of making this horrible tragedy a story for the news...

Are you kidding me. Send the baby home with the mother that abandoned her like a piece of trash. She doesn't deserve to raise that precious little baby. Find it loving parents that care about that precious baby.

I know her and she's a good person. She's not a criminal. Yes it's shame she did what she did, however, she didn't know that she was pregnant and therefore freaked out (I mean your not sane to begin with while giving birth and just think if you didn't know, how you would react to that?) She's a good person who doesn't deserve to be sent to jail. I think once she comes to terms that she now has a daughter that she’ll buckle down and be a wonderful mother.

All you people who keep posting things like "I know her, she's not a criminal". Understand you may know here, but once she left that kid in the woods, she was and IS a criminal. People make bad decisions. One guy made a bad decision and killed somebody. Is he not a criminal. Would she be a criminal if the baby died. I know people who have been in trouble with the law, but I gotta tell ya, if they did what the courdt says they did, they are criminal, plain and simple whether or not I know them.
