I agree with this letter but that is the price you have to pay for living in the country, where it is safe and peace and quiet. I'd rather pay the extra money and try to cut more than to save a few bucks and live in the crime ridden city.

So What wrote: I use to have employees who were almost always late for work because, according to them, they lived like 40-50 miles from their work site. First, I would tell them to leave earlier because they are responsible for being on time and I have to pay people overtime to cover for them until they arrive. When that didn't work, I'd tell them to move closer to work. When that didn't work, they would no longer be employed, although it was a battle with the union all the way.(I've done a lot for someone who is 15 and a C student) ...you sound like a slum landlord albeit a slum employer who pays his emplyees a pittance so they have to live in the county's rural areas because it's cheaper. Do you also own a trailer park - sounds like it.

Lets do your profile: Bet your an overweight, beer guzzling, pot bellied, loud mouthed, arrogant idiot; who has an extremely high turnover rate of employees. Talk about TESTICULAR FORTITUDE.

To Yogi- Why are you ragging on the previous post THAT MADE SENSE? I can't even GET employees that WANT TO WORK. NO ONE wants to work anymore. They only want a paycheck for doing nothing. I've tried to hire the 8,000 students from EUP to help harvest crops and I got ZERO applicants. You tell me. Give me an answer.

You should go to the Hispanic-American Council and I'll bet you'll find some migrants who know how to do that type of labor (legal & illegal)

Give me an answer. they are then paid appropriately. i love the people who rag on "fair" wages when in fact the jobs performed are of low skill and almost anyone can do them. why would an employer pay more when he can get some other bum to do the job? you want more money, give me a reason to pay you more.

Mornin' MCR.
I agree as well, our old neighborfood in the city is going downhill fast. We have family and friends still there, and hearing what is happening there is disheartening. Since we have moved, I now have a 25 mile one way commute to work, gas has doubled in price, and though it hurts sometimes, it's worth it.

Omni - Enough with the tired old "big oil" mantra. Exxon-Mobil is the biggest "American" oil company but is only the 14th largest oil company in the world. Oil is sold on the free market. The profit margin for "big oil" companies is 8%. The gubmint gets 18%. If anyone is gouging the consumer it is the gubmint.

Forest County might consider home schooling as an option, of coarse you need one parent at home, or maybe can 'home school' at a neighboring home that is doing it. My sister is doing it with her kids.

Can't agree anymore with you So What. I was the manager of a retail store years ago and I had an employee who came in a few times and he was a delivery guy with scheduled appointments. Customers were expecting us to deliver when we said we would. He was late 3 times and I warned him three times and told him if he was late a 4th time he was fired. I guess that I was an A-Hole for firing him when he was late the 4th time huh?
Yogi and Countrybumkin have never been in charge of employees before and have no idea what the term work ethic is.

First of all, you needed to say that the work force of today's genX and genY have no work ethic and no accountability. I do no a thing or two about work ethics and employing fine workers with work ethics. I LOVE to employ people who have been in the work force for many years and know the rewards of hard work. Not all employees are lazy and not all employers get it right all the time.
